Episode Notes
This was the first episode to air on UPN. Over the summer, UPN launched a huge promotion campaign using the phrase "Buffy Lives!" in its advertisements.

This episode scored a 6.2/9 in the ratings.

This episode ranked 2nd out of 9 UPN shows for the week.

UPN aired both episodes of Bargaining as a 2 Hour Network Series Premiere event for its original broadcast. While this is maintained on the DVD releases, it is split into two for syndication and Hulu.

As of this episode, Anthony Stewart Head is no longer featured in the opening credits.

As of this episode, Alyson Hannigan now gets the coveted "and" slot at the end of the opening credits.

This was the first time two new Buffy episodes aired on the same night as a 2 hour event, since the pilot episode in March of 1997.

Ranked 78 out of 135 prime time shows.

Sarah Michelle Gellar spends just over half the episode portraying the Buffybot. This means in the syndication version, which splits the two halves, Buffy herself doesn't appear in the flesh until last few seconds of the first of the two episodes.

Part 1 was written by Marti Noxon and Part 2 by David Fury.

In the original, full version of the episode, the "Previously on..." begins with a quick recap of the first five seasons of the show before it focuses on Season 5. In the syndicated version, the recap only goes over Season 5.

One of the Hellions was going to be named Pike, but this was changed to avoid confusion with the character of the same name who appeared in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer film.

Episode Quotes
Spike: Oh poor watcher. Did your life flash before your eyes? Cuppa tea cuppa tea, almost got shagged, cuppa tea.

Willow: (about the Buffybot) And I got her off those knock-knock jokes.
Buffybot: Oh, who's there?
Xander: You know, if we want her to be exactly --
Spike: She'll never be exactly.
Xander: I know.
Tara: The only really real Buffy is really Buffy.
Giles: And she's gone.
Buffybot: "If you want her to be exactly, she'll never be exactly, I know, the only really real Buffy is really Buffy and she's gone" who?

Anya: (about the Buffybot) She's not the descendant of a long line of mystical warriors. She's the descendant of a toaster oven.
