Although Joss Whedon wrote the 1992 Buffy the Vampire Slayer film, it is not considered canonical to the TV series. Whedon was not satisfied with the film and as such based the series on his original script. A three-part comic titled The Origin adapted the script, blending it with the series. Despite taking issues with a few aspects, Whedon has endorsed the The Origin as canon. |

Joss Whedon has said that the idea for Buffy came from all the horror movies he had seen featuring a helpless young blonde who would almost always be the first to die. He felt she needed a better image. |
