Hard Time - Recap

The scene opens with Michael getting ready to interrogate Simon and Fiona comes up behind him and says that he needs to go to the shooting range with her. He says that he is going to be meeting with Simon soon and that he needs to be able to get inside his head. She tells him to be careful and Michael says that he will. Michael visits Vaughn and Michael sees that Vaughn is prepared for anything as he has armed guards all over the place. Michael walks in to find Simon in a chair. Simon says that he has been waiting for this day for a long time. Michael says that he found his Bible and Simon says that he has been spending a long time in his handcuffs. Michael realizes that the handcuffs are not as secure as Vaughn thinks and Simon breaks free. He pushes Michael through the window and they fall off the balcony onto the lounge chair. He tells Michael to listen as he tells him to go to the Cemetery and then to go to plot 837 and says that there is an audio tape that says “Berlin 2007”. He says that he has be careful digging it up. After he listens to the tape, then they can talk about the Bible. Vaughn and his guards take Simon back into custody and Michael is left with a nice scar. Vaughn asks if he learned anything. Michael says that he has to change Simon’s handcuffs more often.

Michael is back and he is getting stitched up by Fiona. She says that Michael got lucky but Michael says that Simon wasn’t trying to kill him and that he gave him vital information. He says that he has to go now to the cemetery to retrieve the cassette. He asks for some help and Sam says that he is visiting a friend in prison who needs his help. Fiona says that she’ll get her shovel. At the prison, Sam meets up with Juan and Sam says that Juan has some other reason why Sam was named the executor of Juan’s will. Juan says that Cruz, the leader of a gang in the prison wanted him to do something for him but he refused. Cruz spread it around that Juan is going to talk when he gets out in a week about the business inside and says that he is dead by tomorrow. Sam meets with Michael and Jesse and says that he wants to break into prison and help protect Juan. Jesse and Michael think he is crazy and says that he will do it except he will take a different approach. Sam is shocked that Michael will help Juan and Michael says that he is doing it for Sam.

The plan that Michael chose involved FBI agents Harris and Lane. They tell Michael that he has a week and that they hid a cellular phone in his cell in case he runs into trouble. Michael walks through the system and meets Juan. He tells Juan not to leave his site and that he will protect him. Outside, the inmates are exercising and Juan points out Cruz. Michael makes eye contact and Cruz tells him to get over to him. Michael walks over and Cruz asks if he and Juan are friends. Michael says that Juan is his cellmate and asks Cruz if he wants him to be somewhere or not be somewhere. Cruz tells him that if he comes to his cell, he needs to leave. Meanwhile, Sam and Fiona are at the plot site and Sam digs up the grave. He says that it doesn’t look like a trap but Fiona sees that it is a pressurized bomb. She says that they are going to have to come back with their tools.

Michael and Juan are in outside eating lunch and Michael sees that it is quiet and that people are avoiding them. He says that is a bad sign and tells Juan that Cruz is going to make a move to kill him sooner than they thought. Michael says that they need to get to the library. They enter and Michael says that they need legal books. Using the covers as protection, Michael and Juan make homemade stab protection vests. They return back to the cell and Michael says that they don’t have to fight for long and that the guard is going to be there as soon as possible afterward. But Michael sees that the guard is on Cruz’s side and says that they are going to have to fight longer. Cruz walks up and sends his men in one at a time. But Michael takes on the men and they are saved before anyone could get hurt. On of the homemade knifes hit Michael’s vest and Juan is amazed it worked. Cruz says that he will get them later and that he is going to have a “party”. Later on the recreational field, Cruz talks to the leader of the Aryan Brotherhood gang leader and Michael says that he is setting up a riot. Michael sees no other option and calls Sam. He says that Sam needs to look up a crooked guard named Hill. Fiona and Sam have the tools but the groundskeeper is there. Sam says that Fiona needs to find some reinforcements because he and Jesse need to investigate Hill.

Jesse and Sam arrive at Hill’s home and Sam says that Hill has a little brother in prison and that Cruz probably threatened Hill. They walk up to Hill and say that he is going to help bust out some friends. Hill shows his gun and says that he won’t. But Sam says that they’ll just say that he is in with Cruz’s gang and that word will get back to his brother and that his brother will be dead. Hill tells them to leave his brother alone and Jesse says that they don’t want to hurt anyone. Sam asks what the riot procedures are. Back in the prison, Fiona says that she is going to have to ask her Michael’s mother to assist. A guard walks over and Fiona starts to talk sexy. She tells him to leave. When he leaves Fiona still wants to play but Michael doesn’t want to. She says that Michael and Juan have 20 minutes to get to the infirmary and hide in the pharmaceutical box because they take it off sight to avoid the inmates raiding it. Michael asks what they do when they look into it. Fiona says that Sam and Jesse are going to be the guards. He asks about the doors and Fiona eats a piece of gum and says that some things he is going to have to figure out on his own. She kisses him and the guard says that it is enough. She leaves and Michael finds a lock pick in his mouth.

At the cemetery, Fiona has a bucket of oil and breaks into the tomb. Madeline says that they have company and Fiona says that she needs a minute to cover up the hole and get the case out of there. Madeline walks over to the groundskeeper and says that she needed to hire a landscaper for the plot. She distracts the groundskeeper long enough to allow Fiona to get the case. Back in the prison, Michael tells Juan the plan and they are interrupted by two guards who tell that they need to “see the barber”. The guards escort Michael and Juan to Cruz’s cellblock and into a dayroom where Cruz is waiting with a metal bar. The door closes and the guard says that he needs to go and respond to the riot. Cruz hits the guard and two other inmates are there too and they start to beat up Michael and Juan. Michael fights off the other two and Cruz is beating up Juan. Cruz breaks Juan’s leg and Michael carries out Juan. They have 10 minutes to get out but Juan can’t walk. Michael calls Sam and says that he is leaving Juan in the prison but tells Sam to call Hill and tell that he needs to tell Cruz that they are in the infirmary. Michael heads over to the infirmary and waits for Cruz and his men.

They arrive and Michael has an oxygen tank and makes a path of alcohol. He tosses the oxygen tank in front of them and lights the path of alcohol. The trail makes it to the oxygen tank and it explodes. It knocks out Cruz and his men and Jesse and Sam enter. They put Cruz in the pharmaceutical locker and Michael calls the FBI. They put the locker in a garage and Cruz finds a gun. He gets out and every police officer is there to arrest him. FBI agents Lane and Harris escort Michael out of prison and find out that several guards confessed to taking bribes, a riot ensued, and he had an inmate escape. Sam pulls up with Juan at Juan’s house and Sam says that the gang killed Cruz. Sam says that Juan's family has his back.

Fiona, Michael, and Sam open the box and find a yearbook, pictures and the cassette from Berlin 2007. Michael listens to it. It is a recording of a phone call between Simon and Vaughn. Michael finds out that it was Vaughn who burned him in the first place. Michael meets with Simon and says that he heard the tape and now knows that Vaughn was the one that burned him. Simon calls Michael his brother and says that the man who wanted to take the Bible is like a king, CEO of Drake Technologies, John Barrett. Michael asks what the Bible decodes and Simon tells Michael to give it to John and he will take care of Vaughn and his organization. Simon says that he would have worked with the devil himself to take down the people who burned Michael and Simon. Michael talks to Vaughn and says that Simon told him to kill Vaughn and he says that he just told a psychopath what he wanted to here. Vaughn says that they are going to have to go after Barrett in a different way. Vaughn tells Michael that he is glad he found Michael and Michael replies, “Me too.”
