The scene opens with Commander Sam Axe walking into a building and gets lost a little bit. However, he finds his way to a hearing that takes place February 2005 at the American Embassy in Bogota, Colombia. Sam asks for a beer and laughs, but the general talking to him is not laughing and tells him to raise his hand to be sworn in. Sam asks if he is on trial and the general tells that it is only for some answers. He asks how he was involved into this and he starts to tell about how he was at the Oceana Naval Base in Virginia Beach, Virginia with a woman named Donna. The scene flashbacks to where he says that he didn’t know the woman that much and Sam finds out that Donna was the wife to Admiral Matlin. He sneaks out the window as Matlin gets home. The general wants to know what that has to do with anything and Sam tells that he is getting to it.

Afterwards, Sam tells that he met at Beer and Bowl in Virginia and the scene flashbacks to him meeting with Michael Weston. He tells Michael about how he was sleeping with the Admiral’s wife and he didn’t know it. Michael tells him to tell the Admiral right away. However, Sam asks if Michael has some spy stuff that he can do and Michael tells Sam to be careful. Later, Sam walks around and he is a little drunk. A soldier tells Sam to go with him. He is taken to Admiral Matlin and Matlin tells that he knows that Sam was at his house and that his wife told him everything that went on. Sam tries to tell that he didn’t know that she was his wife and Matlin tells that he is going to transfer Sam to Colombia. Sam asks why he is going there and Matlin tells that it will teach him not to sleep with other men’s wives for a little while.

Sam arrives in Colombia and the pilot asks what he did to deserve the treatment, but Sam is quiet. He gets on land and is told that his mission is to look into some illegal activity and possible terror plots. Sam arrives at Hacienda Department of Governor Perez and they tell him that he is to look for a dangerous insurgent group called “Espada Aroiente”. He meets with Commander Veracruz and he says that they have Intel that the terrorists are going to attack a hospital. They get to the “Doctors for All” clinic and the doctor tells that he doesn’t understand how they are going to be under attack. Amanda Maples, another doctor there, tells that they don’t need protection and tells Sam that they need to get out. Sam goes up to Veracruz and they are talking to a girl that was trying to get into the trucks. Sam realizes that the girl is only hungry and tells the men to let go of her. Sam gets to Veracruz’s camp and Sam is playing it safe for now. He calls up Admiral Matlin and tells him that he has arrived at camp and asks how long he is to stay in Colombia and Matlin tells as long it takes. He tells Sam to enjoy the next few months.

Back in the meeting, the general asks Sam how he became involved with the terrorist ground and Sam tells that he is getting to it. They flash back to Veracruz’s camp and Sam talks to one of the men and says that he is tired and pretends to go to bed. However, this is a plow to follow Veracruz. He goes out and scouts on his own. He hears voices and sneaks in and finds Veracruz unloading weapons and overhears that they are going to bomb the clinic themselves and then kill Sam afterward. Sam stages a scene of a kidnapping and goes to the clinic. Amanda and the other doctor laugh at the fact that Sam wants to protect them and tell him that they are fine. Veracruz finds the staged kidnapping trail that Sam left and searches out to find him. Sam walks away from the hospital and bumps into the girl again. She says that Veracruz and his men are on their way. He runs back to the hospital and tells Amanda and the other doctor to grab things and tells the doctor that they are going to make a bomb and blow up the clinic themselves. The doctor is confused, but Sam tells that they are going to blow it up without everyone inside whereas Veracruz wants to blow it up with everyone inside. The doctor helps with constructing the bomb. Sam manages to get everyone in the truck and tells Amanda that they are going to blow it up and use the explosion as cover to escape. The bomb doesn’t go off and Sam tells that he is going to have to set it off manually, but the doctor tells that he can get it. Sure enough, as they are walking up to the building, it explodes. The general at the hearing asks what that has to do with his mission on gathering Intel on the “Espada Aroiente”. He tells him that he is getting to it.

The story continues with Sam and the rest of the crew on the road and Sam tells that they can’t go to the nearest town. The girl tells that she has somewhere to hide and she tells that the “Espada Aroiente” will help. The general interrupts the story and tells that he has no record on Beatrix, the girl. Sam tells that she is not your normal average girl. Back in Colombia, Sam is blindfolded and is escorted to the Espada Aroiente Camp and the girl, who is now known to be Beatriz, says that they are there. Sam gets out and is shocked to see that there is no secrecy to the camp and that they look like a bunch of sheep herders. Sam makes fun of the camp and Beatriz tries to defend. She tells that their best fighter is Louis, an 80-year-old man. Beatriz runs up to Louis and hugs him. Later that night, Amanda comes up to Sam and fills him in about the history of the “Espada Aroiente” and tells that they have a nickname for Sam which is “The Chin”.

The next day, Sam sees how the “suspected” terrorist group trains and they are horrible. Sam goes up to the doctors and Sam tells that he is going back to camp because Veracruz has a SAT phone and tells that if he is wrong, then he is going to get shot. They get a truck to work and Sam tells Amanda that he knows that she wants to kiss him, but not right now. She laughs and tells that is not true at all. She tells that he better come back because everyone says that they are coming back, but they never follow through. The general interrupts the story again and asks about Louis Mendez, the leader of the “Espada Aroiente” and tells that he was a leader of the army back in the past and asks what happened next. Sam tells that he ditched the truck and dirtied himself up and pretends to have escaped. They take him back to camp and Veracruz asks how he escaped and he tells that he escaped when he went to the bathroom. Sam calls Admiral Matlin and tells that if he helps the people, he will allow him to kick him in his time and choosing. Sam leads the men on a wild goose chase until Veracruz comes up and tells that he knows that he is lying. He points the gun to Sam’s head and tells him to lead them to the camp or he will be killed now. A truck that is on fire heads strait for them and Sam runs and falls down the hill. Beatriz shows up and tells him to promise not insult them. He promises as they escape the gunfire.

They get back to the camp and Sam tells that Veracruz is going to be there soon and tells that there is a CIA outpost 50 miles. He talks to Beatriz and asks how she ended up with the “Espada Aroiente”. She tells that her father was a journalist and that he was shot while investigating the trouble with the farmers. Sam asks for her help to translate. He tells the group that he is going to help them. The general interrupts again and asks if he worked with Louis and Sam tells that he was one of the guys. He tells that he only gave them football plays. “Zone Blitz” is the plan of attack. They drive and approach a blockade. Sam has an itch and tells that they need to proceed with caution. Suddenly there is gunfire and Sam’s worse feeling comes true. They manage to push rocks down on Veracruz’s men and get out of there just in time. They arrive at the CIA outpost and the men tell that it is a joke and tells that they are an observation post. Sam asks if they can call out and one of the men says that the men want to talk to Sam in person. They tell that they have a chopper to get to the government. They watch as Sam goes off to get some help for them. On the chopper though, the men tell that they are not sending any help because the men are not in danger. Sam points his gun on the man and says that they are now in danger. The general tells that Sam is in a world of hurt now and tells that he needs a military lawyer and says that they have questioned and detained people. Sam tells that they are crazy and tells that he doesn’t want to a lawyer and tells him to leave his friends alone.

Sam gets back to the story and Sam tells that the CIA guys were going to leave everyone and are now tied up in the chopper. Sam tells the men to call and tell that everyone needs to get over here and the guy calls and tells that they are under attack. They convince him. He tells that they are going to be there in three hours. Sam gets the men together and the doctor shows that he built a bomb. He goes out to talk to Beatriz and tells her that she needs to stay back, but she tells that she is fighting with the others. They get out and Governor Perez brought more men. Sam and the doctor plant the bomb. They watch as the men roll over the bomb and they start attacking. However, they run out of bullets and are forced to retreat. Louis decides to stay back and gets killed. The doctor tells that he has one more bomb and throws it, killing some of Veracruz’s men in the process. The doctor runs up to Louis and verifies that he is dead. He is shot in the shoulder in the process.

They get back to the outpost and Beatriz asks where Louis is. Sam tells that he dead and she tries to go back, but he stops her. He tells her to go back for Louis and fight the smart way. Sam tells the men to call the military again and they tell him that they are moving as fast as they can. Sam takes the phone and picks up a magazine with a baseball star on it and tells that his name is Chuck Finley and they tell him that they are 10 minutes away. Sam tells that he is going out there to give them some time and tells that he knows that she wants to kiss him and she better. She tries to deny it, but kisses him. He rides out on the donkey at the outpost to Veracruz and the other men. Veracruz hit him and Sam tells that they don’t want to mess with the Flaming Sword because they are more than just farmers. He tells that they can surrender now and tell that he is bluffing. Sam tells them that he is going to give them another chance and Governor Perez kicks him. Veracruz tells the men to fire at the building. As they fire on the building as the people inside hide. Suddenly helicopters arrive and start bombing the Veracruz’s trucks and shooting the trucks. The Colombia police arrive and arrests Veracruz, the Governor and his men. Amanda thanks Sam and kisses him goodbye.

Back at the U.S. Embassy, the general tells that he is going to be Court Marshall, but Sam tells that he didn’t tell them the entire story of his conversation with Beatriz. He says that she said that it is all her fault because there is no Flaming Sword and that she told Louis and gave him the name of “Espada Aroiente” and says that she should die here. Sam tells that he has a job for her and asks if she is good with a camera and tells that she took a lot of pictures and told her to go back to her dad’s old newspaper and talk to people to put together a few stories. He says that there is a piece in the paper of Louis and how he died under “mysterious” circumstances. The general excuses everyone and Sam tells that he will reveal things that will end the general’s career and they keep their mouths shut for everything. He salutes and at the airport Sam arrives in Miami, Florida and receives an honorable discharge, first class ticket to the place of his choosing and a cold beer. Sam sees a pretty woman and smiles to be back in America.
