Bus Stop was a dramatic series which aired during the 1961-62 season on ABC. It was based on the hit Broadway play of the same name written by William Inge and later made into a movie starring Marilyn Monroe. Bus Stop's setting was the small Colorado town of Sunrise and the show revolved around the many people who happened to step off an interstate bus stop located near a diner in the town. Regulars included Marilyn Maxwell as diner owner Grace Sherwood, Rhodes Reason as Sheriff Will Mayberry, Joan Freeman as waitress Elma Gahringer, and Richard Anderson as District Attorney Glenn Wagner. Though the show won acclaim from many critics, others criticized the violent nature of some of its storyline particularly that of an episode entitled A Lion Walks Among Us. This criticism more than likely led to the show's cancellation after only one season.
