1 :01x01 - Pilot (Oct/06/2000)
Gil Grissom is the supervisor of the CSI, the forensics unit of the pre-eminent crime lab in the country, second only to the FBI's unit at Quantico. This episode introduces the other members of the cast, including Grissom's boss, Captain Jim Brass; Catherine Willows, a single mother and the number two CSI; and Warrick Brown, a young investigator angling for a promotion to level 3 investigator His chief competition is fellow CSI, Nick Stokes.

Grissom investigates the case of a murder set up to look like a suicide, but discovers very little evidence at the scene. Warrick and Catherine are assigned to the case of drunk man shot to death. Meanwhile, Nick investigates the case of a man drugged and robbed by a prostitute whom he'd picked up.

2 :01x02 - Cool Change (Oct/13/2000)
In the aftermath of the Holly Gribbs shooting, Captain Brass is demoted and reassigned as a homicide detective, with Gil getting promoted to full head of the CSI unit. Grissom brings in Sara Sidel, an investigator he knows from San Francisco, and assigns her to the case, much to the displeasure of Catherine, who felt guilty about some things she said to Holly before the shooting, and wanted the case for herself. Grissom and Nick investigate the apparent suicide of a man who, hours before, had won a large casino jackpot. Warrick, who left Holly alone at the scene in violation of standard procedures, is up for suspension as a result, even as he is pressured from the other side by a corrupt judge.

When a woman is kidnapped, Grissom, Nick and Sara take on the case. But in their search for her, they encounter more complcations than expected. Warrick, having narrowly avoided suspension, joins Catherine in investigating the death of a young girl who was killed in a hit and run.

Grissom and Catherine cover a case where a severed leg is found that apparently belongs to a female body recovered from Lake Mead. The woman had a boyfriend who becomes an immediate suspect. Meanwhile, Sara and Nick investigate a fraternity pledging ceremony that turned deadly. Warrick is pressured once again by a crooked judge to compromise key evidence in a case.

Grissom and Warrick investigate the death of a young man who is found naked in the desert, but the case becomes more challenging when the cause of death fails to match any obvious reasons. Sara is sent to investigate when a woman who was buried the week before unexpectedly turns up in a dumpster. Catherine and Nick find problems with the story of a classy private school's founder regarding her part in the death of the school's dean.

In a clear violation of protocol, Catherine investigates a case of a rape accusation involving her ex-husband. 7 :01x07 - Blood Drops (Nov/17/2000)
The full team looks into a mass murder in which a teenager and her younger sister are the only survivors of the brutal murders of the rest of their family. The team at first believes that the murders were some form of cult murders, but as they dig deeper, the true events become increasingly disturbing.

8 :01x08 - Anonymous (Nov/24/2000)
Three months ago (in the pilot episode), Royce Harmon was murdered and his killer rigged the scene to make it appear as a suicide. Another murder has been committed, with similar evidence, and the killers' extensive knowledge of forensics has left Grissom and his crew bewildered. Meanwhile, Warrick and Nick deal with a case of a man who drove over a cliff in his car and is now unconscious.

When a passenger is found dead on a flight to Las Vegas, the investigation falls upon Grissom and his CSI team. The team must sort through all the detailed interviews with the passengers, along with the collected physical evidence in order to discover the answers.

10 :01x10 - Sex, Lies and Larvae (Dec/22/2000)
A body covered in bugs is found abandoned in the desert, leaving Grissom and Sara to figure out where it came from and who killed the victim. Warrick and Catherine investigate the theft of valuable pieces of art while Nick is assigned to uncover the truth about why a missing woman's car is found at a bus station. Later, Warrick is suspended when he is suspected of gambling while on duty.

11 :01x11 - I-15 Murders (Jan/12/2001)
A woman is kidnapped from a supermarket. While investigating, Grissom finds evidence that suggests that five other women have already been killed, creating a race to find out who the kidnapper is. After being caught on duty in a casino and suspended, a reinstated Warrick is paired up with Sara for a robbery-murder case. Sara is concerned with Warrick's devotion to duty as well as his clear gambling problem. Meanwhile, Nick is asked for help by the prostitute he befriended in the pilot episode, after she has problems with a hotel's security staff.

A man who is on trial for the arson and murder of his wife and child implores Grissom to help prove his innocence. Grissom agrees to look into it despite the fact that this puts him at odds with Ecklie, who performed the original investigation. Catherine and Nick look into the underbelly of gambling after a young man is shot and killed in his car.

13 :01x13 - Boom (Feb/08/2001)
After a bomb explodes in an office building and several people are injured and one is killed, the CSIs first suspect is a security guard who left only minutes before, and has amateur experience with bomb making. Nick helps his prostitute friend from the pilot episode, who then seduces him, but winds up dead the next morning, making Nick a prime suspect. Worse still, Ecklie winds up with the case.

After a human bone is found in the desert by a dog playing fetch with its owner, Gil and Catherine have to search across a large area for clues about the body, which leads to an identification. When his wife is approached, she insists that her husband is away at a local store. Warrick and Sara, at the same time, investigate the death of a male stripper who was working a bachlorette party that appears to have gotten way out of hand. Clues point to a bridesmaid as the culprit.

15 :01x15 - Table Stakes (Feb/22/2001)
When a woman winds up floating in the pool at a swanky fundraiser with many local VIPs, the CSIs investigate, but must tread lightly for political reasons, though there is also pressure for a quick solution for the same reasons. The owner of the house where the fundraiser was held is out of town, and suspicions falls on the hosts of the party, a couple who is house-sitting for her. Warrick is sent to look into an apparent mob-style hit, where the victim, shot in the forehead in a hotel's glass elevator, was left with a quarter covering the entry wound.

A woman winds up dead at a classy fundraiser and the CSIs are sent to investigate. The owner of the house is out of town, turning the suspicion to the couple house-sitting for the owner. Meanwhile, Warrick investigates a murder committed in a glass elevator. After some investigation, Warrick discovers that the victim had a professional hit put out on him.

16 :01x16 - Too Tough to Die (Mar/01/2001)
After a woman is kidnapped, raped, beaten, and shot, then left for dead in a comatose state, it falls upon Sara to identify her. As she works on the case, she develops an appreciation for the woman's strength and character the more she learns. Catherine and Warrick have a murder case dumped in their laps when the assigned CSI on the case quits. It falls to them to understand how the story of the accused and the victim's wife are so at odds. Catherine discovers that her ex-husband Eddie has taken out a second mortgage on their house, still in both their names, without her permission.

17 :01x17 - Face Lift (Mar/08/2001)
A body suffering from head trauma found one morning in a store, near the safe, appears to have been the result of an interrupted robbery. A fingerprint found at the store connects the robbery in some way to a young girl kidnapped twenty years before. Sara and Warrick find themselves assigned to investigate a woman who burned to death while the house around her was hardly affected. Sara claims it's a case of mythical "spontaneous human combustion", while Warrick insists there is a simpler explanation. They compete to find the true answer.

When a couple celebrating their anniversary is killed in front of the restaurant they have just left and their car is stolen, the CSIs investigate. The investigation is complicated when it begins to rain and most of the crime scene evidence is destroyed. When the car is found, and its evidence is collected, the details of thee case become stranger and stranger. Meanwhile, Catherine investigates the death of three senior citizens when the ceiling of their residence collapsed. The evidence suggests possible negligence on the part of the city engineer who was responsible for inspecting the building.

Two women, out partying, strike a young man with their car. As it turns out, not only was he deaf but he was also dead before they struck him. Gil investigates, but runs into problems when the administrators at the dead youth's school refuse to help. Catherine and Nick investigate the murder of five people at a coffee shop, which gets even more suspicious and complicated when one of the victims has mob ties.

Grissom, Nick, and Warrick investigate the death of a jogger who was apparently killed by a wild animal near a park. Things take a mysterious turn when they find that the jogger's liver had been surgically removed after he had died. Meanwhile, Sara and Catherine investigate the death of a young girl at a carnival. The young girl is about the same age as Catherine's daughter, and she takes solving the case personally.

22 :01x22 - Evaluation Day (May/10/2001)
It's evaluation day for the staff, but Grissom's evaluations take a back seat when a severed head, sans body, is found in a car's trunk. Meanwhile, Sara and Nick investigate when a body turns up in the desert, and it happens to be missing the head. Warrick is sent to investigate things at the juvenile detention center after a teen is found murdered. The only witness to the death is the young man James, whom Warrick identified in episode 3, as guilty of a hit and run and promised to look after.

23 :01x23 - The Strip Strangler (May/17/2001)
A serial killer is on the loose, and the CSIs race to find the answers. The killer has a clear knowledge of forensics and has done an excellent job of leaving no clues, however. As the investigation stalls, the FBI are called in by the Sheriff, which angers Gil to the point where, duee to his intransigence, he is ordered to stand down from the case and let the FBI supervise things. His CSIs, though, keep him apprised of their findings, though Gil can't be a direct part of the investigation.
