Gil Grissom is the supervisor of the CSI, the forensics unit of the pre-eminent crime lab in the country, second only to the FBI's unit at Quantico. This episode introduces the other members of the cast, including Grissom's boss, Captain Jim Brass; Catherine Willows, a single mother and the number two CSI; and Warrick Brown, a young investigator angling for a promotion to level 3 investigator His chief competition is fellow CSI, Nick Stokes.
Grissom investigates the case of a murder set up to look like a suicide, but discovers very little evidence at the scene. Warrick and Catherine are assigned to the case of drunk man shot to death. Meanwhile, Nick investigates the case of a man drugged and robbed by a prostitute whom he'd picked up.
In the aftermath of the Holly Gribbs shooting, Captain Brass is demoted and reassigned as a homicide detective, with Gil getting promoted to full head of the CSI unit. Grissom brings in Sara Sidel, an investigator he knows from San Francisco, and assigns her to the case, much to the displeasure of Catherine, who felt guilty about some things she said to Holly before the shooting, and wanted the case for herself. Grissom and Nick investigate the apparent suicide of a man who, hours before, had won a large casino jackpot. Warrick, who left Holly alone at the scene in violation of standard procedures, is up for suspension as a result, even as he is pressured from the other side by a corrupt judge.
When a woman is kidnapped, Grissom, Nick and Sara take on the case. But in their search for her, they encounter more complcations than expected. Warrick, having narrowly avoided suspension, joins Catherine in investigating the death of a young girl who was killed in a hit and run.

Grissom and Catherine cover a case where a severed leg is found that apparently belongs to a female body recovered from Lake Mead. The woman had a boyfriend who becomes an immediate suspect. Meanwhile, Sara and Nick investigate a fraternity pledging ceremony that turned deadly. Warrick is pressured once again by a crooked judge to compromise key evidence in a case.
Grissom and Warrick investigate the death of a young man who is found naked in the desert, but the case becomes more challenging when the cause of death fails to match any obvious reasons. Sara is sent to investigate when a woman who was buried the week before unexpectedly turns up in a dumpster. Catherine and Nick find problems with the story of a classy private school's founder regarding her part in the death of the school's dean.
In a clear violation of protocol, Catherine investigates a case of a rape accusation involving her ex-husband. Warrick and Sara find themselves in an adversarial situation as they hunt for a missing bullet that will either exonerate or indict a patrol officer in a murder investigation. Meanwhile, Grissom and Nick look into the details of a skeleton of a female found in the foundation of a house.

The team at first believes that the murders were some form of cult murders, but as they dig deeper, the true events become increasingly disturbing.

Three months ago (in the pilot episode), Royce Harmon was murdered and his killer rigged the scene to make it appear as a suicide. Another murder has been committed, with similar evidence, and the killers' extensive knowledge of forensics has left Grissom and his crew bewildered. Meanwhile, Warrick and Nick deal with a case of a man who drove over a cliff in his car and is now unconscious.

When a passenger is found dead on a flight to Las Vegas, the investigation falls upon Grissom and his CSI team. The team must sort through all the detailed interviews with the passengers, along with the collected physical evidence in order to discover the answers.
A body covered in bugs is found abandoned in the desert, leaving Grissom and Sara to figure out where it came from and who killed the victim. Warrick and Catherine investigate the theft of valuable pieces of art while Nick is assigned to uncover the truth about why a missing woman's car is found at a bus station. Later, Warrick is suspended when he is suspected of gambling while on duty.
A woman is kidnapped from a supermarket. While investigating, Grissom finds evidence that suggests that five other women have already been killed, creating a race to find out who the kidnapper is. After being caught on duty in a casino and suspended, a reinstated Warrick is paired up with Sara for a robbery-murder case. Sara is concerned with Warrick's devotion to duty as well as his clear gambling problem. Meanwhile, Nick is asked for help by the prostitute he befriended in the pilot episode, after she has problems with a hotel's security staff.
A man who is on trial for the arson and murder of his wife and child implores Grissom to help prove his innocence. Grissom agrees to look into it despite the fact that this puts him at odds with Ecklie, who performed the original investigation. Catherine and Nick look into the underbelly of gambling after a young man is shot and killed in his car.
After a bomb explodes in an office building and several people are injured and one is killed, the CSIs first suspect is a security guard who left only minutes before, and has amateur experience with bomb making. Nick helps his prostitute friend from the pilot episode, who then seduces him, but winds up dead the next morning, making Nick a prime suspect. Worse still, Ecklie winds up with the case.
After a human bone is found in the desert by a dog playing fetch with its owner, Gil and Catherine have to search across a large area for clues about the body, which leads to an identification. When his wife is approached, she insists that her husband is away at a local store. Warrick and Sara, at the same time, investigate the death of a male stripper who was working a bachlorette party that appears to have gotten way out of hand. Clues point to a bridesmaid as the culprit.
When a woman winds up floating in the pool at a swanky fundraiser with many local VIPs, the CSIs investigate, but must tread lightly for political reasons, though there is also pressure for a quick solution for the same reasons. The owner of the house where the fundraiser was held is out of town, and suspicions falls on the hosts of the party, a couple who is house-sitting for her. Warrick is sent to look into an apparent mob-style hit, where the victim, shot in the forehead in a hotel's glass elevator, was left with a quarter covering the entry wound.
A woman winds up dead at a classy fundraiser and the CSIs are sent to investigate. The owner of the house is out of town, turning the suspicion to the couple house-sitting for the owner. Meanwhile, Warrick investigates a murder committed in a glass elevator. After some investigation, Warrick discovers that the victim had a professional hit put out on him.

After a woman is kidnapped, raped, beaten, and shot, then left for dead in a comatose state, it falls upon Sara to identify her. As she works on the case, she develops an appreciation for the woman's strength and character the more she learns. Catherine and Warrick have a murder case dumped in their laps when the assigned CSI on the case quits. It falls to them to understand how the story of the accused and the victim's wife are so at odds. Catherine discovers that her ex-husband Eddie has taken out a second mortgage on their house, still in both their names, without her permission.
A body suffering from head trauma found one morning in a store, near the safe, appears to have been the result of an interrupted robbery. A fingerprint found at the store connects the robbery in some way to a young girl kidnapped twenty years before. Sara and Warrick find themselves assigned to investigate a woman who burned to death while the house around her was hardly affected. Sara claims it's a case of mythical "spontaneous human combustion", while Warrick insists there is a simpler explanation. They compete to find the true answer.
When a couple celebrating their anniversary is killed in front of the restaurant they have just left and their car is stolen, the CSIs investigate. The investigation is complicated when it begins to rain and most of the crime scene evidence is destroyed. When the car is found, and its evidence is collected, the details of thee case become stranger and stranger. Meanwhile, Catherine investigates the death of three senior citizens when the ceiling of their residence collapsed. The evidence suggests possible negligence on the part of the city engineer who was responsible for inspecting the building.
When a baby is kidnapped from a wealthy family, the investigation reveals several discrepancies in the tales told by the parents and family members. It becomes clear that there is more going on than just a kidnapping.
Two women, out partying, strike a young man with their car. As it turns out, not only was he deaf but he was also dead before they struck him. Gil investigates, but runs into problems when the administrators at the dead youth's school refuse to help. Catherine and Nick investigate the murder of five people at a coffee shop, which gets even more suspicious and complicated when one of the victims has mob ties.
Grissom, Nick, and Warrick investigate the death of a jogger who was apparently killed by a wild animal near a park. Things take a mysterious turn when they find that the jogger's liver had been surgically removed after he had died. Meanwhile, Sara and Catherine investigate the death of a young girl at a carnival. The young girl is about the same age as Catherine's daughter, and she takes solving the case personally.
It's evaluation day for the staff, but Grissom's evaluations take a back seat when a severed head, sans body, is found in a car's trunk. Meanwhile, Sara and Nick investigate when a body turns up in the desert, and it happens to be missing the head. Warrick is sent to investigate things at the juvenile detention center after a teen is found murdered. The only witness to the death is the young man James, whom Warrick identified in episode 3, as guilty of a hit and run and promised to look after.

A serial killer is on the loose, and the CSIs race to find the answers. The killer has a clear knowledge of forensics and has done an excellent job of leaving no clues, however. As the investigation stalls, the FBI are called in by the Sheriff, which angers Gil to the point where, duee to his intransigence, he is ordered to stand down from the case and let the FBI supervise things. His CSIs, though, keep him apprised of their findings, though Gil can't be a direct part of the investigation.

A gardener, outside the house, observes Tony Braun, a known drug addict and old-time Vegas casino mogul (i.e., with suggested mafia ties), face down in his house and, judging by the paraphernalia surrounding the body, the apparent cause of death is a drug overdose. However, once the investigation begins, Grissom detects evidence of duct tape on the body, which leads the CSIs to believe that the victim was restrained and forced to ingest lethal amounts of drugs.
When a young college girl vanishes, apparently with no trace, the CSIs investigate. They find a lot of strange evidentiary odds and ends that point in many directions, but they all turn out to be dead ends. The actual answer of what happened turns out to be far more bizarre than anyone expects.

Grissom finds himself at odds with the Sheriff when he insists on a deeper investigation into what seems to be a suicide at a construction site. The Sheriff is pressured by the site operator to free up the site, while Grissom insists that the man may have been murdered, limiting access to the crime scene and causing construction delays. Meanwhile, Nick and Catherine get stuck with a case with little evidence beyond angora fibers, which are found on a dead teen's underwear. As details are exposed, they believe that the boy's psychologist wasn't acting on the up-and-up.

After a youth is found murdered, shot in the back, in the bathroom of a local high school, the team's investigation reveals that the school's top jock and class clown was also a class bully, pointing to the students as likely suspects. In the aftermath of a wildfire near Lake Mead, a scuba diver is found in the upper reaches of a burnt-out tree. Did the diver fulfill an Urban Legend?

When a suspect is found burying several bodies, the subsequent investigation by Grissom et. al., appears to be an open and shut case. Grissom is dissatisfied with the simplicity of the evidence, which seems suspicious to him, especially once it turns out that the suspect is the brother of a convicted felon. If falls to Catherine and Warrick to investigate the suspicious death of a woman at a hotel spa. Was it accident, negligence, or foul play?
Grissom and Nick take the case of a female book restorer found dead locked inside a temperature and humidity controlled "cage". Did the restorer kill herself or was it homicide? An autistic co-worker may hold the key to solving the crime. A train-SUV collision leaves Catherine and Sara to sort through the wreckage to determine if the crash was caused by road rage or a careless accident.

While Grissom and Catherine are away, Warrick is put in charge. He and Sara take a case when a con artist, who was involved with Brass's daughter, is murdered. The evidence leads the team also into an investigation of a counterfeit money ring. The CSI's number one suspect in the murder is Brass's daughter, forcing Captain Brass to take himself off of the case, but, while he does so as a cop, he can't do so as a father.

When a well-known real estate developer is found in an elevator, the CSIs are called to investigate the murder. They realize that the crime scene has been tampered with -- the victim has been redressed -- which complicates the investigation. When the team learns that the cause of death was poisoning and that the man's organs have already been removed and donated, the crime becomes even harder to solve.
Grissom and Sara investigate two female bodies found hidden in pipes at a road construction site. They identify the victims as sisters who share a common link: a former prison inmate. Catherine and Nick are assigned to an apparent hunting accident, but further inspection of the crime scene reveals that the details of the death are not what they seemed.

The team once more investigates a crime scene left by serial killer Paul Millander. Probing of the crime scene and the files from his past murders, the team realizes that all the victims shared the same day of birth, the day of the murder of Paul Millander's father, with the birth years descending: 1959, 1958, 1957... Grissom believes that he's the next target of Millander since common date of August 17 happens to be his birthday as well... and he was born in 1956.
When a woman is kidnapped, Catherine is ordered by the kidnappers to accompany a man to deliver the million dollar ransom or else the woman will be killed. As Catherine goes with the man, the team works to try to figure out who is behind the kidnapping.

When an extra body that doesn't belong there is found at a body farm used for forensic studies of decay, it falls to Grissom to investigate the murder. The death was apparently caused by a bullet, though there are no fragments found. Some of Grissom's actions call his leadership abilities into question with the rest of the CSIs as well.

After a fight breaks out among the players at an amateur hockey game, the goalie ends up at the bottom of a pile. When the pile clears up, he is found dead with a gash across his neck. Grissom, Catherine and Sara are called to determine whether the death was an accident or foul play. Meanwhile, Warrick and Nick investigate the apparently drug-related death of a sax player at a casino.

Grissom is called to investigate when four monks are shot and killed while chanting in a Buddhist temple. At the same time, Catherine reopens a case involving the murder of her best friend when the man convicted of her murder claims, immediately before his death, that he wasn't the murderer.

On its regular run from LA to Vegas, a bus crashes, landing on top of a passing sports car and killing nine people. The dying driver of the bus tells the team that the steering went out without warning and that was what caused the bus to go out of control. Upon discovering that a recent parolee was on the bus is unaccounted for after the accident, the CSIs begin to suspect foul play.

Jane Galloway is a woman who lives a secluded life -- the shades are always drawn, doors are always triple-locked -- and she falls victim to a serial killer. The CSIs are called to investigate the scene and have to find out who killed Jane and how the killer could have gotten into the house with out tripping Jane's security system. As the evidence is collected, it appears there is a connection between the murderer and Nick, who may be his next victim.
When an 80-year old woman is found murdered in her run-down house, surrounded by dozens of cats, Grissom and Catherine take the case, while Nick and Sara investigate a car bombing that seems to be a murder plot gone very wrong.

Grissom and Sara are called to the scene when a man's body that had been soaked in lye is found buried in a park. Meanwhile, Nick tries to determine how a man appears to have drowned in the middle of the desert.
Grissom and the team are called out when the city's former chief of detectives is killed execution-style in his home after a party and his wife and child are missing. After the station receive reports that they had seen the missing child near Miami, Catherine and Warrick fly to Florida and meet with Horatio Caine, Miami's chief CSI, who works with them on their investigation.

When a young woman's body is discovered stuffed in a shopping cart under a freeway, the CSIs investigate. They find that the woman's body is disfigured and starting to decompose, and her face is covered with gashes and scars, leading the team to believe that someone shoved her face into a fan. After seeing the rest of the contents of the cart: an expensive handbag, fashion magazines and a leather day planner, it is clear she was not homeless at all. Grissom expresses the belief that not only did someone want her dead, but "they wanted her ugly."

Nick and Catherine wind up in the world of street racing when a driver is found dead at an abandoned airstrip.
At the same time, Grissom and the rest look into the death of a champion poker player who suffered fatal convulsions while playing a high-stakes game. In both of the cases, the evidence suggests that the answers may not be as obvious as they first seemed.

The crew looks into the death of woman whose body is found in the hotel room of a famous actor. Another woman appears to be missing. At trial, the actor hires a very famous attorney to represent him, and also Gil's own mentor to discredit their evidence.
When a wealthy couple are found dead outside of their for sale home, Grissom and Catherine are sent to investigate the possible murder scene. Meanwhile, Sara examines a case involving a cheerleader found dead on a soccer field with her organs removed.
A dwarf is found dead, hanging on a rope above a stage in a casino where a little peoples' convention is being held. Though the scene looks like a suicide, Grissom decides from the evidence that foul play was involved in the man's murder. In a scene reminiscent of the pilot (the death of Holly Gribbs), Catherine is assaulted while investigating the crime scene of an apparent robbery-murder scenario.
During a magic act, an unidentified woman actually vanishes and Grissom begins to think that the magician had a hand in the woman's mysterious disappearance from the face of the earth. Across town, Catherine looks into the apparent overdose of a recovering rock star, whose body is found dead on the tour bus with a needle in his arm. Further investigation suggests that all is not as it seems.

A part of Catherine's past comes back to haunt her when a man that she put on death row 15 years ago is about to be executed. However, his execution is postponed a the last moment when new DNA evidence is introduced. Suddenly, a new body turns up at the local college, killed in the same manner of the previous murders, leading to the obvious conclusion that the actual killer may still on the loose... but is it a copycat killer?
A boxer dies in the ring after taking a deadly beating from an opponent. The death seems accidental, but Grissom, after looking at the evidence, is lead to believe that the death was murder. Meanwhile, Catherine investigates a Los Angeles gang member who was shot and killed in what appears to be a gang shootout. Nick grudgingly takes the case of a jewelry store robbery, but the three cases turn out to be inter-related.
Catherine is called upon by a pornographic film producer to watch grainy graphic footage from a possible snuff movie in which a woman may have been murdered. Is it a real snuff picture or was it faked? Elsewhere, Grissom inspects a body that was found in a fire ant mound and has been dead for more than a year.
When a cab driver apparently runs over a teenaged male, he is pulled from his cab and fatally beaten by a racially charged mob who thought he was going to flee the scene. After investigation of the evidence, though, Grissom and his team discover that the boy died from multiple stab wounds, but shows no signs of being actually struck by the cab. Who in the mob killed the cabbie, and what happened to the boy?

Grissom, Nick, and Warrick are sent to the scene when a man was murdered and shoved off of a six-story building, but discover that he actually fell even farther than that. Grissom needs to take himself off of the case when he begins to suffer from a re-occurrence of his hearing problems. Elsewhere, Catherine investigates the shooting death of a man who was killed outside of a bar where he was a regular.
When a gruesome murder occurs at a slaughterhouse, Grissom and Catherine team up to find the culprit. Unfortunately, the evidence has been ground up in a meat grinder. Meanwhile, Sara and Warrick work to find out if whether an apparent suicide of a young woman is as is seems or if foul play was involved.
When a group of bird watchers find a raven with an eyeball in its mouth, the CSIs are able to connect the eye to a divorced man and his two children. In another case, as David is about to begin his first autopsy, supervised by Dr. Robinson, the body startlingly turns out to be anything but dead. They successfully revive him, but he dies later of his injuries. Warrick and Grissom look into the man's reasons for being on the autopsy table in the first place.
When a drive-by shooting results in the death of a young girl asleep in her bedroom, Warrick is assigned the case. The murder occurred in Warrick's old neighborhood, and the young girl is the daughter of an old friend and mentor. Warrick allows his emotions to get out of control, which leads Grissom to pull him from the case, infuriating Warrick. Meanwhile, Nick investigates the murder of a computer company employee which has only has three possible suspects -- all of whom are employees of the company. While each appears to have motive, all three also appear to have ironclad alibis.
Catherine leads the investigation of various instances of a Peeping Tom as the team rush to catch the Tom before his crimes escalate to assaults -- a path which, though unusual, is suggested by specific evidence found at the crime scenes. Meanwhile, Sara reopens a case involving her friend, a district attorney, who was shot during an attack on her husband three years prior. As Sara digs back into the case, the district attorney goes into potentially lethal surgery to remove the bullet.
When two men are found murdered, Grissom's investigation leads him to another encounter with the mysterious Lady Heather. In the meantime, Catherine rushes to find what almost caused the death of her daughter and apparently related disappearance of her ex-husband.

A man dies while driving with a stake driven through his head, sending Grissom and Nick out into the field to find the "vampire" killer. Meanwhile, Warrick and Catherine work together to find out who killed a well-known NBA player's five year old son.

An elderly woman drives her car straight into a packed restaurant, injuring many, and sending the crew to the scene to determine if the crash was accidental or intentional. Meanwhile, Grissom and Nick look into a case of a woman suffering carbon monoxide poisoning in her home.
Catherine, Nick and Sara looking into a body found in the mountains that appears to have been dead for months. This leads the trio into the world of the world of robots and "robot wars", where robots are designed as "gladiators", to fight in an arena until one is incapacitated. Elsewhere, Warrick and Grissom investigate the body of a man in an alley, but their investigation is made difficult when the medical examiner “loses” the body for 11 days. Greg is called on to help the investigation by going undercover when a connection to an illicit gambling operation is found.
When a movie-goer is found dead in his seat, Catherine and Grissom team up to investigate. Meanwhile, the team stumbles across a forensic stalemate while examining the shooting death of a teenager.

Grissom and Catherine look into the case of a comic who died while doing an act on stage, apparently a result of poisoning. The evidence appears to suggest that he died due to a tainted bottle of water. The investigation becomes more complicated when a teenaged boy dies after drinking the same brand of water. Meanwhile, Detective Brass reopens a case of a woman’s death that was deemed accidental, after Brass sees the woman’s husband with a trophy date in an expensive new car.
Grissom, Catherine and Nick investigate the trampling death of a horse trainer while in-flight aboard a private jet. At the same time, Sara and Warrick investigate a “Romeo and Juliet”-like death scene found in the desert.

When a professionally executed bank robbery leads to the murder of a detective who happened to be at the scene, Grissom and his team are sent to investigate. While the scene is being examined, Grissom suffers another bout of hearing loss and another member of the CSI team receives a personal revelation.

Two couples meet at a bar, but only one couple will leave alive. However, after the second couple turn up dead, murdered in a similar fashion, the CSIs begin to suspect that two serial killers are on the loose. But when information about the case is leaked to the press, and when the team has a hard time obtaining a search warrant from a judge, the case becomes increasingly complicated. Meanwhile, Catherine learns some disturbing information about her father’s murder trial.

An arm falls out from underneath of a bus and after an investigation of the bus, the CSIs find the remains of the body stuck beneath the bus. The bus in question was carrying inmates from a women’s correctional facility, leading the CSIs to believe that an inmate tried to escape during transport. But when tests reveal that the victim was dead before the transport began, the case becomes more complex. Meanwhile, Grissom looks into a case involving a man stabbed once in his chest and four times in the back – all wounds being exactly the same height.

A casino employee is brutally beaten and raped on her way home from work, and survives the attack. Though she is able to identify her attacker, a DNA test sets the suspect free. Upon hearing this, Grissom must decide whether or not the evidence can be wrong. Meanwhile, Grissom rescues one of his co-workers that happens to find themselves on the other side of the law.
An exciting night in Las Vegas results in the death of three people – one male dead in an alien suit, one male found dead in a bathtub, and one female found dead. The CSIs suspect that the killer is one of two suspicious men at the scene of the crime. However, the case becomes more complex when the team discovers that one of the dead males was holding a Polaroid of another dead male. Meanwhile, Greg’s replacement arrives at the lab.

Meanwhile, a teenaged boy is found dead in his bedroom, and though his brother confessed to the murder, the evidence suggests otherwise.
Grissom uncovers an unlikely connection between a suicide of a woman in the nearby Vegas wilderness and the murders of an entire family in the Las Vegas suburbs. The evidence is able to piece together an unfaithful spouse and the deadly results of one woman’s frantic need to get pregnant.

A Nevada mental hospital for sexually violent criminals and the criminally insane becomes the site of Grissom’s newest investigation when an inmate is murdered. As Sara and Grissom probe deeper into the case, they quickly learn that each of their suspects, all of which are locked inside the facility, are capable of extreme, brutal violence.
At a bar after a tough day on the job, Catherine has a romantic encounter with a stranger, Adam Novak. When a woman at the same bar turns up dead, Adam becomes the investigation’s number one suspect. Meanwhile, Catherine and Grissom clash after Catherine fails to tell him her connection to the suspect, while Mia deals with lab problems when the evidence becomes cross-contaminated.
When a college basketball star doesn’t show up for the big game, one of his fellow dorm residents ends up finding the player dead in a sleeping bag with a girl in his dorm room. As Sara and Greg investigate the scene, all of the evidence leads them to dead end after dead end. Meanwhile, Catherine and her crew investigate when a body is found in what seems to be a crop circle – with no footprints leading to or away from the body.
Nick is kidnapped by a man with a grudge against the CSIs. When he awakens, he finds himself trapped in a coffin with a loaded handgun and a message telling him that he better kill himself because he’s going to die anyway. Attached to the coffin is a webcam that tapes Nick’s every move and sends the image back to the CSI lab where his co-workers slowly watch him suffocate.
In a race against the clock, the two CSI teams combine back into one team, and under Grissom, the team works to find Nick. They try to hack into the webcam, but much to their horror, the picture is replaced by a countdown and a message telling them to bring a ransom to a warehouse. Grissom takes the money to the location and comes face to face with Nick’s kidnapper. However, the kidnapper has an explosive plan that may lead to the death of Grissom and of Nick.
Grissom delivers the ransom money to the kidnapper, but the kidnapper blows himself up, leaving no clues as to where Nick is buried. As the clock slowly ticks away, the CSIs must rush to find Nick who is buried underground and slowly sufficating.
Grissom, Catherine and the CSI team investigate three separate cases: a couple is found dead in bed after a suspicious trailer explosion; a stripper is murdered and her body is dumped in the bad part of town; and two bodies are found decomposing in the trunk of a car, forcing the CSIs to “wrap up” the evidence and examine it at the lab.
The team investigates when a young movie star is found dead in a hotel suite left in a compromising position. The movie star died after a night of heavy partying in his hotel suite along with his large band of groupies. Meanwhile, while downstairs at the hotel, the CSIs discover that the immigrant kitchen workers may have turned against each other, and their hostilities between one another may have led to murder.
When a woman meets her death on a flight of stairs, the team investigates and finds enough blood evidence to indicate that her death was not an accident.

A middle of the night break-in at a suburban home on the edge of the Vegas desert leads the CSIs to discover an abandoned military compound being used to house a small cult. Once inside, they discover a mass suicide has taken place. However, with 11 bodies and 12 beds, Grissom surmises that the killer may be the one body missing.

In a CSI first, a crime will be shown from the killer's perspective. The CSIs investigate two deaths, both linked to the same suspect. As the evidence starts to overlap, the CSI team begins to move in on the murderer.
A woman's bald, branded and emaciated body is discovered dumped in the desert. The investigation soon reveals that the victim is the estranged daughter of Grissom's one-time friend Lady Heather. The probe also reveals that one of the dead woman's eyeballs isn't her own and belongs instead to a convicted sex offender. When Grissom confronts Lady Heather, she isn't too cooperative, but later she provides Grissom with some astonishing evidence.
The CSI team explores the case of a man found stuffed down the chimney of a previous suspect's home.
The CSIs determine that the body they have found was burned before it was dumped down the chimney, leading them to believe the murder was pre-meditated. During the processing of the home, Catherine and Warrick realize that this is the same address of an unsolved homicide of a young female teenager from a year ago, and re-open the investigation.
A camera crew from a reality series follows the CSI team during the first 48 hours of an investigation involving an upscale real estate agent found dead in her glamorous high-rise apartment. The cameras reveal the intricacies of how the CSIs piece together the case, but also delve into how each member of the team deals differently with the emotional and physical demands of their work.
When the body of a young girl is found in a high school, the CSIs are shocked when a twelve year-old classmate confesses to the savage murder. But the CSIs are led to believe that the girl is covering for her brother, so they turn to the evidence to cast some light on which sibling committed the brutal murder. As a psychic is telling the futures of two young women, she begins to see her own murder taking place. When the psychic is found dead, it's up to the CSIs to determine the cause of death. The CSIs are sent to the scene when three teenagers are murdered during the promotion of a rapper's new album. The team find themselves in a world of rappers where artists will use any means necessary, including murder, to get to the top. They soon suspect that Drops, J-Lady (both rappers), or Marcus, an auto dealer, will lead them to the answers they're looking for.
A wealthy defense attorney is murdered at her son's wedding. The case seems to be going fine until all the evidence and Nick's car are stolen, compromising the investigation. The team assume that the car and evidence robberies are connected, but when they uncover new evidence, the team is able to piece the crime together.
A young man is found dead in a designer suit and with the keys to a Ferrari in his pocket. Investigations show that he was having a "really good day", winning at the poker tables, meeting and bedding a really beautiful woman, after beating another guy's time with her. Deeper investigation reveals that he was an unwitting participant in a special gift, a weekend created by a company that specializes in identifying one's fantasy and making them come real.

The suspect in a murder investigation leads the CSI crew on a chase through one of Las Vegas's busiest casinos. After taking a hostage, the man locks himself in a guest room, and the CSIs have to rush to uncover if the man worked alone or not. When their time begins to wind down, one of the CSIs decides to risk their life to negotiate the safe return of the hostage.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the CSI team holds vigil near the bedside of their teammate who may not survive. Meanwhile, the CSIs investigate the scene of a man who was decapitated by a train. After examining the evidence, they discover that the accident was really a cover up for another murder.
A Cirque du Soleil dancer is killed during a show which sends the CSI crew backstage to investigate her murder. Meanwhile, after Catherine and Nick go to a club to watch a performance by John Mayer, Catherine has to rely on her CSI skills to uncover who is targeting her family. Elsewhere, Grissom is puzzled when he receives a mini-replica of a crime scene he is investigating.
Grissom's fascination continues with a miniature replica of the crime scene he's investigating where a rock star was murdered. With the clues that the replica provides, Grissom works to find the killer. Meanwhile, Catherine finds herself in danger and continues to hunt for the person responsible.

. Elsewhere, a coroner's inquest is called to examine Greg's conduct in the events that led to the death of Demetrius James
and Greg receives an unpleasant surprise at the end of the episode.
Identical twins are both found murdered on the same night, leading the CSIs to investigate whether or not the two murders have a connection.
The remains of Mickey Dunn, a wanted Las Vegas mobster who disappeared in the mid 1970s, are fished out of Lake Mead with a bullet hole in the head. Soon afterwards, a wheelchair-bound man is murdered and a photo found on his body shows the victim with Dunn and three other men. Dunn and the victim have Xs on their faces. It quickly becomes apparent that the other three men may also be targets.
Grissom is called to the scene when a poultry processing plant employee is found dead in an electric stun bath that is used to electrocute chickens. The team is shocked to discover a mini-replica of the crime scene, a calling-card similar to the replicas found at two other homocides. Meanwhile, the team looks in to the death of a man and an woman who were found stuck in cement at a construction site as well as the death of an elderly Russian woman.
Catherine testifies in a murder trial in which a man is accused of murdering his own mother three years ago, but the suspect is found not guilty. Catherine, however, believes he did commit the crime and that he may also have killed two other people, so she sets out to find the other victims. Piecing together the evidence, the team realizes that the reason for the death may have been that the officer's identity had been exposed. In the meantime, the investigation also exposes a connection between Det. Brass and the widow.
For the season finale, the team investigates a body found in an empty patch at the edge of the city. Details identify two others present, and connections build up towards the cause relating to the casino chips for a defunct resort. Also, Ray has to make a split second decision in the heat of the action, and Nick heads off to an entomology conference.
