Episode Summary

[x] Remove Ad
When a rising young starlet is killed in an early morning traffic accident, an injured stalker found at the scene claims it was intentional on his part. Further investigation uncovers evidence that the stalker is not as culpable as he claims, and that another murder, elsewhere, is related. When it results in an attempt to steal a body, the CSIs take the case personally.

Episode Notes

Riley Adams (Lauren Lee Smith) has permanently left the squad, without a great deal of notice, leaving a large number of open cases.

During her exit interview (dated 9-10-09) she stated:
[she] was resigning so that she could accept a law enforcement position in the Midwest that offered more opportunities for advancement.

Adams stated that she found it frustrating to be a member of the grave shift because "the team suffers from a lack of cohesion. There is no team unity, no leadership, and poor communication. There are many talented individuals, but they are too often more concerned with pursuing their separate investigative agendas than with integrating themselves into a tightly coordinated unit. Anotehr factor that cannot be ignored is the ineffective leadership of the supervisor, Catherine Willows. Willows is brilliant, determined, experienced, and passionate about her work, but
as [sic: "has"] a problem with delegating clear lines of responsibility among team members which leads to a duplication of work, wasted time, and interpersonal conflict."

From the exit interview, Riley's LVPD/CSI employee number was CSI-56-1755-43. Her SS# was (apparently) 574-43-3516, She began work on 9-14-06 and left on 9-4-09

Nick(George Eads) has continued in his efforts to become CSI's new "bug man" in the absence of Gil, by, among other things, obtaining a large, fuzzy spider to care for.

Ray Langston (Laurence Fishburne) is promoted to CSI Level 2 with this episode.

Nick is promoted to Assistant Supervisor of Grave Shift, as well.

Ray receives a letter from the review board indicating that he has been cleared of any charges resulting from his shooting of a suspect in self-defense in last season's final episode, All In (09x24)

"Little Stevie" seems to be a running in-joke for CSI -- It's now been used as a reference to different things in all three CSI incarnations. The term used to be a reference to "Little Stevie Wonder" back when blind singer Stevie Wonder was a young boy discovered by Diana Ross. Whether this is relevant to the usage is unknown at this time.

It is implied by certain events that Ray, among his other accomplishments, is a very capable martial artist.

Wendy Simms' (Liz Vassey) only appearance in this ep is during the Bullet Time sequence.

Episode Quotes

Nick: Looks like we may have an eye witness. Should add to the circus.
Raymond: Doesn't really matter what he has to say. Everything we need to know, is right here in front of us.

Sara: Hi, guys! This a bad time?

Cultural References

The Matrix -- "Bullet Time"

The opening sequence, with all things frozen in time as the camera moves in and around the scene, is exceedingly similar to, if not directly identical to, the effect first used significantly in the now classic 1999 SF movie The Matrix, which co-starred, of course, Laurence Fishburne.

Raymond: How do you drive that far, that wasted, and still stay on the road?
Nick: Individual tolerances vary, just ask Keith Richards.

Keith Richards is a songwriter, the guitarist and a founding member of The Rolling Stones. He is well known for legendary binges involving the abuse of massive amounts of drugs and alcohol (along with several other members of The Stones), while remaining reasonably functional.

Sara: Think of it like busting Al Capone for tax evasion.

Despite massive efforts to find evidence to convict Chicago mobster Al Capone for a vast array of known criminal activities, including murder, extortion, and bootlegging, in the end, the charges which succeeded were those of evading payment of the Federal Income Tax. Far lower on the scale of criminal charges, but they were sufficient to send him to jail for eleven years, and, along with the repeal of Prohibition, it was sufficient to put an effective end to his criminal career.
