So, I think we can see a marked improvement in my own opinion with this episode. While I think having Sara on the show as a regular sort of makes little sense both in terms of her previous reasons for leaving and in terms of her relationship with Grissom, it does stabilize the cast somewhat.

You'll note that you see a lot less of the other tech types so far this season, with only Hodges getting any real face time, although David Phillips does seem to be getting personified a lot more, with a few paragraphs of establishing background in several of this season's shows. Wendy has so far been largely invisible, I can only recall seeing her for a brief moment during the "bullet time" segment in episode 1. I believe one of the upcoming eps will focus on Henry (one of the only tech people who got no real face time last season) in what I'll guess is a leftover episode from last season (only a guess -- and that leaves Mandy and Archie as the only regularly recurring "little" people without a defining ep for their characters), but for the most part, it appears they're switching back to the formula that's made CSI a steady top-10 show for the last 9 years -- The focus does seem more back onto the cases, and I think that really culminates in this episode making it the best one so far this season, and a pretty good one overall. I particularly like the balance they kept on the racial tone of the episode. That element of things is often handled with kneejerk low-rent writing and this episode held itself above that, making it clear that it was a complex matter, not a simple case of black-v-white.

If they can keep it up like this, and the current cast all keeps signing back on, the show seems capable of getting a second wind and going on indefinitely, it seems to me.

My US$.02 < --- And worth every penny.

One thing that confuses me is Fishbone. He's a Level 1 CSI, right. Which is the lowest CSI on the team. But at the crime scenes and at the lab, he acts and is treated like the wiseold head honcho, rather than the newbie that he is.

[edit] oh yes, and as for the above ..... CSILV has been my least fav for many years, just too damn dark. And I've long thought it will be the first one to end - not thru ratings falling but because they've nowhere left to take the characters. Sarah is a good returnee but kicking Lauren Lee Smith out & making her a bad guy with her exit letter was just mean.

Fishburne is an experienced man in the business, his rating is only for his skills/experience at the field level. The respect he gets is because of that background, his maturity level, and the fact that he\'s clearly as competent as Al in the morgue itself. He\'s also shown to be highly intelligence with a wide range of skills (martial arts, motorcycles, jazz).

My own preference for this one over Miami and New York is mainly because
a) I hate Caruso. He\'s soooooo pretentious and full of himself. There was a scene, first season, IIRC, where he does something for this woman and her child (sister in law, maybe)... and he walks away over to the elevator and turns back and looks at them, his hands on his hips, his chest puffed out. He\'s soooooo wonderful for helping her. Yeesh. The man\'s just a pompous, overstuffed ass.
b) I dunno about NY. I like Sinise a lot. But I just never saw anything in it that made it better than the original. I\'ve seen maybe 1 ep in 5 or so.

Hmmmm, interesting. Maybe my 'unease' with the character comes from the fact he joined a series in its 9th year(?) and is immediately given the top-star status, being first in the credit line. But I guess being super knowledgable would get you the respect of your collegues.

re: Caruso - I have to admit to loving his character, the stance he takes in the hallways, the removal of his glasses, the snipering of that tanker-bomb, the slowly walking away from an exploding building/car/bomb/etc. Cheesy maybe, but I like it. And it doesn't hurt that CSIM also has Ms Procter and Ms LaRue too

Al: I doubt it. Look at his body fat. Not the usual yellow-orange color.
Sara: It's white. He was a vegetarian.

Anyone know if this is true?

Moved, Seconded. Proctor and LaRue can't make up for his pretentious and egotistical attitude (to say nothing of the fact that I've got bigger tits than Proctor does).

Every time Caruso takes a stance I expect to hear someone play the Mighty Mouse theme music, just to make him appear like the stuffed shirt he is. I'm tempted to make a vid of it myself -- edit together about three-four minutes of Caruso puffing out his chest and copping a pose, looping the MMTS to it.

zwixxx, don't click on that link, you'll hear it playing every time Caruso cops a pose, which means you'll crack up 2-3 times an episode, and never be able to take him seriously again.

Lord knows how you can still do it now, but don't let me ruin your fun.
