Horatio came of age during the turbulent sixties from race riots, Civil Rights marches, Cuban Rights marches, and the rise of drugs he's seen it all. When his mother was murdered for standing up to a drug dealer, Horatio never stops in his pursuit of justice. By the time the killer is sentenced to prison for the murder Horatio knows that police work is what he wants to do with his life. Working his way through the ranks of Miami P.D. to head of the Crime Lab after the former chief steps down. With his wealth of personal and professional experience, he is the perfect detective and victims advocate.

Born into poverty to two alcoholics Calleigh has come a long way. From those humble beginnings Calleigh attended Tulane University with a major in Science. She tried life in her field but police work was constantly calling her. While working in New Orleans her chief got a call from an old friend Horatio Caine. Miami was looking for a ballistics expert and "bullet girl" as she had been named by her fellow officers would be perfect.

Alexx's road to the morgue has been a long one. One a doctor of the living Alexx was blacklisted by scheming doctor to cover his own negligence resulting in the death of a patient. This left her with one place to go the New York ME's office. Enjoying the peace and control she had in this new enviorment, after a long time Alexx was happy again. When Miami-Dade approached her to head up their new facility after much consideration she moved her family to Florida. Once a plain uniform cop Wolfe met Horatio at a bus crash. His performance impressed Horatio so he offered him a position with the crime scene investigators. He impressed the team by caring more about finding the truth instead of making an impression. Which has gone a long way to making him more than Tom Speedle's replacement.
