When a virus from E. Coli strikes in Miami, it kills a young woman and her boyfriend, prompting Eric Delko and Alexx Woods to return to help their team. The CSIs split up to track down the source for the virus, leading Calleigh to a restaurant where the couple ate and Jesse Cardoza and Ryan to a farm where the virus grows on plants. Meanwhile, Eric tries to save a man who died from being brain dead, but when the rescue doesn’t go successfully, the death influences Eric so much that he decides to quit his job.

| The title ("Bad Seed") obviously refers to the CSIs finding traces of E. Coli on the leaves at a farm, referring to E. Coli as precisely a "bad seed".
| This episode marks the first time in CSI: Miami history where Eric Delko leaves the CSI team. Fans are not sure when or if he will be returning, and this episode is also the last where the name of Adam Rodriguez is featured in the theme song intro.
