Also, in an exchange to learn how to make a cassata for Lisa, Buddy agrees to show a local baker how to make a New York Cheesecake.
A client travels from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with an unusual request: oversized, 10 foot-long flip-flop cake to celebrate the restoration of a mile-long boardwalk. Buddy then gets a challenge to make a peanut butter and jelly cake from a pair of second grade teachers wanting to celebrate their students going from second grade to third grade. Later, Buddy gives an amateur baker some pointers on how make different apple cakes for her charity. Lastly, Buddy’s oven salesmen are in for a surprise when he tells them where he wants to place his new ovens.
Buddy’s mother is in for a surprise when she comes into the bakery when the new ovens are being installed. As the ovens are being installed, Buddy and company have a difficult task of creating a Phoenix cake to celebrate a local Irish Pub’s grand reopening following a devastating fire. After the ovens are installed; Joey tests them out by baking his famous Irish Soda Bread.
Buddy visits the Seaport Museum in New York to get inspiration to make a nautical-themed cake that incorporates elements from the SS Normandie for a party the museum will be throwing. It’s Fashion Week in New York and designer Isaac Mizrahi asks Buddy to create several cakes, inspired by his current line of clothing, to be carried by his models on the catwalk. Work on the cake factory slows to a trickle when Buddy is informed by his contractor that costs are higher than both men expected. Back at the bakery, Grace starts to step on the designers’ toes when she voices her displeasure with how the model cakes for the web site aren’t meeting her high standards. Buddy is in for a surprise when he finds out that he has a hernia that requires surgery to fix.
To prepare for his hernia surgery, Buddy’s doctors advise him to take it easy, but he is reluctant to do so.
