Freeze Frame - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Hank shows up bright and early to collect his suit for court. Karen tries telling him she threw it out, but he knows she's not that type. He comes out asking how he looks, and Karen says "Like a statutory rapist in a suit." He banters a bit, then asks about Ben. Karen tells him it's none of his business. She gets tired of watching him fumble-fingers his tie, and finally helps him. It was a trick. She does laugh a little, so he makes a pass. Becca comes out, and he asks what she thinks. She thinks you can't polish a turd.

Hank and Abby watch a video of Mia stating clearly that Hank had no idea how old she was. She didn't tell him. She assumes he figured her for her 20's. Abby stops the video and tells him this shows her the prosecution's case is lame. He's ready to celebrate, but Abby already has dinner plans with her best friend. Her secretary arrives with messages, one of which is Jake's cancellation of their dinner plans this evening, but he does send his love. Abby says they can discuss her bill over dinner.

Hank goes to Charlie to see about getting his hands on some money. Charlie needs a favor. He drops his pants and asks Charlie if he needs to do some man-scaping before his date tonight. With Hank's advice, he's going to cut down the entire forest.

Karen and Marcy discuss if she should tell Hank about Becca's first play date with her new group. Marcy is in favor. Charlie arrives, announcing he has a big date. He shares the details with Karen, who offers to feign interest. As long as they're on the subject of dating, Marcy asks him to tell Biggs to stop hounding her. She's not interested until Charlie backs Stu's claims. He's rich, and hung.

Hank arrives where Mia is hanging out and they share a hug. She's there to meet with Sasha Bingham. Mia is pretty high, considering she mixed weed, wine and vicodin. Sasha arrives, he goes to give her a hug, and she wraps her legs around him. This is when Abby arrives for dinner.

Charlie starts man-scaping. Marcy knocks at the bathroom door, and he cuts himself shaving. A fair amount of blood ensues. He panics and runs to Marcy and Karen who are on their way out the door. They try not to look, but he's bleeding on the floor. This is upsetting to Marcy, since they're in escrow. Karen leaves, and Marcy takes a look at his wound. It's bad, so she'll drop him at the ER.

Abby tells Hank over dinner that he should probably stay far away from her. He claims innocence, as he and Mia and Sasha just ran into each other. She tells him she wrote a novel back in the day. She showed it to her writer boyfriend at the time, and he crapped all over it. So she shredded the novel and dumped the boyfriend. He makes a pass at her, and Abby laughs. She says he sees her as a piece of candy and he agrees, but says it's a compliment. She's like a caramel-centered gummi bear.

Abby thinks she's alone because she could never love a man as much as she loves her work. If she gets in a relationship, she winds up viewing him as an impediment to getting her work done. She doesn't think she's missing anything. She tells him she knows they could never work out because she truly is single and unencumbered; free to love him and be with him for the rest of her life. He sees what she's saying, but thinks they are a lot alike. She agrees. He's full of dark, swirling chaos, just like her. He channels his into his writing, she channels hers into her work. But Hank thinks he can have it all, the chaos and the white picket fence. He counters that maybe one feeds the other, but Abby thinks one destroys the other. The conversation is ended by her cell. Not hers. His. Message from Karen of Becca's playing tonight. She knew it was a message from home, because Hank actually smiled instead of smirking. Abby says he might want to consider smiling more often, it got her a little hot. As she leaves, Hank smiles.

Becca's band performs as Karen looks on. Hank arrives during Becca's solo. The show ends, and he thanks Karen for the riveting 23 seconds worth of notification. Ben arrives with a beer for Karen, and Hank takes it off his hands. He becomes really angry when Karen introduces him as Becca's father. Ben asks him not to be that guy. The one who makes things any weirder than they already are. Hank is spoiling for a fight. Becca runs into Karen's arms, then hugs Hank as well. Ben does the right thing and invites Hank to join them for a post-gig celebration. He looks at Karen and takes a pass, claiming a deadline. He and Becca exchange I love you's.

At the ER, Charlie finds out that his vasectomy doctor is a quack. He had his license pulled. Marcy isn't real amused either, since this means Charlie could be the father.

Hank is very sad when he arrives home. He tosses down a little liquor bottle, then there's a knock at the door. Sasha. He tells her he's not really in the mood, but she's not either. It's Mia. He follows Sasha to the party, Mia is really messed up, sitting on a ledge far above the ground. He joins her. Heights terrify him. So does maple syrup. Croissants, too. Something about the texture. She admits that she was thinking about just leaning forward and letting go. Hank thinks they could jump together. He doesn't think they're supposed to though.

Mia wants a do-over. Hank would like to go back to 1994, it was a very good year. He met Karen, Becca was born; it was a year that changed his life. He claims movies were $1, gas was .10 a gallon, and he had yet to screw up the best thing that ever happened to him. He knows what they need to do. They need to forgive themselves. Nobody can do it for them. She agrees. It's a deal.

Hank pronounces the view nice, but might they go back inside now? He's scared. She helps him down. He's going to head back to his room, but she puts him in the bed at the party. Sasha joins him. He's holding both of them. They stick their hands down his pants, and some jerk takes a picture. Hank disengages himself from the girls and leaves, but the damage is already done.
