Did I miss something? Season 4 ended with Hank about to go to jail and Karen hated him. Runkle was about to get divorced and Marcy was pregnant with his kid, while being with another man. (there were also other problems, but I forgot them, it's been a while)

All these things are just solved and Ok... Hank MIGHT have gone to jail, but he may have escaped. Hank also lives in New York. Oh, and Karen is happily remarried. Oh and Becca went to some school, and has a serious boyfriend.. Runkle and Stu are friendly now, and Runkle has joint custody of the kid who might be autistic or something... Oh, and that movie Hank was working on right before the end of last season: done.

A lot of things that made the show interesting before, are just gone... It's not like the story is just two years later and they explained everything, they just forgot all the old stuff and moved on.

No, that sucks.. Is there some like, 4-hour movie that I missed or something?

Except season 4 didn't end with Hank going to jail, it ended with Becca telling him "to go home" as in NY where they all came from to sort himself out and let Karen and Becca be happy without always having to worry about Hank and the next stunt he was gonna pull.

The final scenes of season 4 showed him driving into the sunset

Hank has been living in NY the past few years getting his act together writing his memoirs Californication (which we saw in ep1) while everyone else has gotten on with their lives back in LA
