Frank Cannon is a bald, middle aged, overweight private investigator who mostly takes cases he knows would get him a substantial fee so he could live the high life he loves so well. Cannon, however, very rarely ever fires a gun and his poor car usually ends up with all the damage in each episode. William Conrad starred in the title role of this Quinn Martin produced show.

Cannon is hired to investigate when an Army researcher seems to have gone insane for no obvious reason. Another cry for help comes out of Cannon's past. A girl he once knew is concerned about her husband's -he's a research scientist- fits of irrational behavior. they touch on mind-boggling drugs here, a topical subject.

1x0: Cannon recap: In Gallitin, NM, Sands Motel owner Ken Langston checks in a guest, Jerry Straiter. The next morning at 4 a.m. Langston collects his fishing gear and drives off into the country. When he arrives, Straiter attacks and clubs him dead. The murderer then drives Langston’s body to the docks, ties it to some concrete blocks, and prepares to dump it into the water. Sergeant Calhoun with the police is driving by, spots Straiter, and opens fire when the killer goes for his gun.
