They get to the crime scene and find Marie Subbarao, an astrophysicist who Castle thinks that has been abducted by aliens after Marie is diagnosed by Lanii that she died of explosive decompression. In other words, she died from being in outer space without a suit. Castle’s theory is starting to get bigger, but Beckett tells that there is always an explanation for it. Esposito tells that a cigarette bud was found by the car tire and will offer some sort of an explanation as to what or who killed Marie. Cultural References
(After Castle speaks Chinese)
Beckett: Semester abroad?
Castle: No, TV show I used to love.

That is a reference to the TV show Firefly, where Nathan Fillion, who plays Castle, starred. The show used Chinese quite frequently, usually when insulting people or cursing.

The X-Files

Castle whistles the theme song of The X-Files twice during the show. Becket says the famous motto of the show, the truth is out there. At the end of the episode, an image of lightning striking the ground flashes for a few frames. This is similar to footage of lightning used at the end of the title sequence of The X-Files.
