Last Call - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
The scene opens with a man fishing and he pulls out a dead man from the river. Meanwhile, Castle is writing and Alexis comes in and tells that her old grade-school shirt still fits and tells that her old friend Stacey is coming over to stay the night. There is a knock on the door and it is Stacey. She is dressed in Goth clothing and has piercings. Alexis is shocked and they go upstairs. Castle gets a call from Beckett and has to investigate a murder. He arrives on scene and tells that Stacey changed. Beckett tells that happens. They get to the body. The victim is Donnie Hayes. Lanni tells that Donnie was murdered and dumped into the East River and that he has a navy tattoo. She found a gambler’s anonymous coin. At the station, Esposito tells that Donnie worked as a dock worker and Ryan tells that apparently, he still does. They go to the docks and find a Grant Viro who has been clocking in Donnie at the docks. Grant tells that he bought the card from him for $25,000.

Beckett and Castle visit Lannii and she tells that the blunt force that killed Donnie was a red glass object and she gives Beckett the evidence. Beckett sees a scar on Donnie’s arm and Lannii tells that it is buckshot and that it is 2 weeks old. Ryan tells that Viro paid Donnie with a check and Esposito tells that Donnie added that to the $125,000 that he had in the bank. All that was withdrawn was written to Wilbur Pittorino. They pull up a Wilbur’s alias, Billy Pitt, and he has a record for mafia activity. Castle is relishing in this. Beckett meets with Wilbur Pittorino/Billy Pitt. He tells that Donnie bought “The Old Haunt”, a bar that is famous and where Donnie’s father, Leo “The Legend”, had. Ryan, the bartender, made an offer but Donnie outbid him. Beckett offers Castle a drink and they go to “The Old Haunt”. They arrive there and Castle gloats about writing there years ago. They meet with the bartender, Ryan. Beckett tells Castle that Ryan doesn’t know about Donnie. She flashes her badge and tells him the news. Castle asks how Donnie felt about Ryan skimming from the till and adding to his tips. Ryan tells that Donnie knew about it and didn’t care. Ryan tells that he saw Donnie in the basement last.

They go down into the basement and Castle is excited. Beckett finds the buckshot in the wall and Ryan tells that there was an angry customer 2 weeks ago. They go back up top and talk to a waitress. She tells that “Pick-up Pete” was here and Donnie kicked him out for life. But, 2 weeks ago, Pete came back and Donnie smashed in his truck as well. At the station, Beckett tells that “Pick-up Pete” is Pete Moocha. Castle isn’t really paying attention and is trying to figure out a good name for a bar. He is interested in buying one. Ryan and Esposito come in and tell that they found Pete in a bar. They interview him and in his drunkenness, he tells that he got paid $1,000 from Donnie after their fight. The alibi for Pete checks out and they wonder how Donnie afforded all the repairs to the bar if he was in debt. Beckett theorizes that Donnie was skimming as well and not paying investors. Ryan and Esposito go to the bar again and look over the financials. Esposito finds an auction receipt for $10,000.

Beckett and Castle visit the auction house and speak to the associate director, Steven Hiesner. He tells that Donnie had the last surviving bottle of Jimmy Walker’s prohibition days of St. Miriam Scotch Whiskey. It was sold at auction for $26,000 to a Jeffery McQuigen. Beckett and Castle visit his home and they meet Jeffery the millionaire. He is only in his early 20’s and they are shocked. Jeffery tells that he drank the scotch and it was tasty. Castle is insulted and when Jeffery pulls it out of the recycling, Castle wraps it in a cloth ceremoniously. They take it back to Lannii and she tells that it is the same glass, but different bottle. Castle is shocked to think that there is another bottle out there and that he might be able to get a taste. Beckett tells that she is going to do some research on Jimmy Walker and Castle tells that he is going to do some “research” too. This consists of him mixing drinks. Martha tells that Castle should open the bar and Alexis comes in and tells that she needs a drink of water and tells that Stacey changed too much and Martha tells that Alexis needs to accept her. Alexis goes in the fridge and the fruits fall out. Castle booby-trapped it. She asks for his help to reload it and Castle gets an idea and calls Beckett and tells her to meet him at the bar.

Beckett arrives and tells that Josh and her were tucked in and she tells that he was helping her with her research. Castle tells that there is something hidden. They move the shelf, and find a secret passageway to former Mayor Jimmy Walker. They open a door that has an old style revolver. When Donnie pulled the door open, that is how he got the buckshot in the arm. They walk inside and find Jimmy Walker’s stash of St. Miriam Scotch Whiskey. Castle tries to get a taste of the broken bottle found inside and Beckett tells that it is covered in blood. They find that there are drag marks that leads to a sewage disposal that leads to the river. There is a noise and Beckett and Castle chase a guy, but are confused when he disappears out of thin air at a dead end. They go to the station and Montgomery tells that they are going to need an old map of the sewers. They go to the library and find the map and the sewer extensions. The book was checked out recently.

Beckett and Castle go to the auction house and Steven Hiesner was the one who killed Donnie for the bottles of St. Miriam Scotch Whiskey. Back at the station, they rool in the remaining stash of the liquor and Montgomery tells that they are evidence. Alexis and Stacey come into the station and Alexis is dressed a little different too. She tells that Stacey told her of a store and it had a lot of cool things. She tells that she is going to take Stacey to the train station. Beckett comes up behind and tells that she remembers that stage. It was right before she got her tattoo. Castle is intrigued and is interrupted with Montgomery telling him that he can have a bottle if he gives a donation. He tells that he wants to celebrate with his friends and they all walk out singing “Piano Man” by Billy Joel.
