<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
The scene opens with a man loading a revolver. He puts it to his throat. The scene changes to Beckett exercising at home when her phone rings. It is Detective Raglan, a former police officer that worked on her mother’s murder case a long time ago. Raglan puts the bullets back in the case and out of the gun and tells Beckett that he needs to talk to her because there are some things about her mother’s case that he needs to discuss. He tells her not to bring any cops. Beckett goes to Castle’s home and asks to talk to him. They go to a café and sit down with Raglan. He tells that the entire thing started 19 years ago. Suddenly Raglan is shot. Beckett calls for an ambulance, but Castle tells that it is too late. Beckett tells that it now a homicide.

Lt. Montgomery arrives on scene and asks if Beckett went with backup and Ryan and Esposito come up and tell that they had her back. However, Montgomery reads right though this. He tells that he is taking her off the case because she is too close to it. She tells that she is not and that she wants to find the shooter like everyone else. She goes inside and sees the shot pattern of the bullet and guess that it is from a building on the 4th floor. She asks if Castle is alright and he tells that he thought that Beckett was shot because of the blood on her shirt. At the station, Esposito tells that no one gets into the building without a keycard and that they are sending over the surveillance videos and everyone with keycards. Ryan comes up and tells that Raglan didn’t have any family. The only friend, Gary McAlister, is the only visitor and he was Raglan’s old Academy friend too.

McAlister comes in and Beckett starts to ask him about what Raglan wanted to say. He tells that he last saw him yesterday and McAlister tells that Raglan was no angel and that New York was a different city. He tells that Vulkan Simmons. McAlister tells that Raglan was a dope runner for Simmons. He tells them to look at Simmons. Beckett finds the background and Ryan tells that Simmons worked Washington Heights. The hitman, Coonan, was hired to try to take Beckett out to what they feel is on Simmons orders. Esposito tells that they will get him. They bring in Simmons and he is all smiles at the fact that they can’t charge him. Beckett shows a picture of her mother and he tells that he remembers her as white trash and that she deserved to be killed. Beckett loses it and slams Simmons against the 2-way mirror and cracks it. Ryan and Esposito tell her to stand down and Montgomery sends Beckett and Castle home. He tells Ryan and Esposito to jump on the case. They try to decline and he tells that it is an order.

At the house, Castle has Martha talk to him about the reason why Castle continues to go with Beckett and that he could have been the one to be shot. He tells that he does it more then for just getting ideas for his book. Ryan and Esposito see a man knock a girl down and grab her arm. They see that the man took her keycard. Ryan sees that he isn’t wearing gloves and that the girl has probably hasn’t showered yet. Meanwhile, Castle goes to Beckett’s and tells that Montgomery kicked them off of the case involving Raglan and not the one involving her mother. He tells that he will sneak into the station and grab her files. Beckett shows that she has that covered and shows that she has a clue board. She tells that her mother was killed along with 3 other people who worked with her. Just before her mother was murdered, she requested a court file that has gone missing.

Ryan and Esposito have the girl there and she has the fingerprint of the man on her arm. Back at the house, Castle and Beckett are looking at pictures of Beckett. Castle pulls out negatives to an empty street. They get the pictures up and it is where her mother was murdered. Beckett needs to look at old files and Castle tells that he will get them. At the station, Ryan and Esposito pull up a match for the fingerprint. Hal Lockwood is the shooter and he has no criminal record. They get a hit on his credit card and they find that he is in a motel. The SWAT team enters to find the motel room empty. However, they find that Lockwood has been following Beckett around. Montgomery goes to Beckett’s and tells that she is to stay in her house because there is a hit out on her. He asks why Castle was at the station bathroom looking at old files. At the station, Ryan tells that the killer was using anti-anxiety drugs and realizes that he was calming himself down so that he can be perfect with his shooting. Ryan tells that one drug dealer has this blend, Chad Roderick. They bring him in and tell that he doesn’t care about the drugs, he just wants Lockwood. Chad tells that he gave the drugs to his contact Jolene.

Castle goes to Beckett’s and she tells him to go home. However, he tells that he is there for her as her partner and will not go. They discuss the files that Castle got and found out that the place used to be a mob hangout where FBI Agent Arman was murdered. The police found that Pogatti, a mobster, did it and the arresting officer was Raglan. They visit Pogatti in the prison and he tells that there were cops who posed as Kidnappers and would kidnap mobsters and hold them for ransom. He tells that Raglan was involved with it and he tells Beckett that she needs to stay out of it or she is going to get herself killed. They take the news to Montgomery and tell that McAlister was involved in the kidnappings as well. Montgomery wants him in there now. They have him in quickly and he tells that it was needed because the mobsters always got what they wanted and there was no consequence. He tells that they were doing a service. However, he didn’t kill Raglan and did not hire Coonen and Beckett asks who is involved and McAlister won’t tell. He tells that Beckett awoke a dragon.

Ryan and Esposito have two addresses to check out and as they leave, Lockwood follows right behind. Beckett and Castle enter the house of Jolene and find her strangled. She calls Ryan and Esposito and they tell that they are on their way, but a flashbang drops and explodes. Beckett talks to Montgomery and he tells that all they found were Ryan and Esposito’s cell phones. Castle and Beckett search for a phone bill. Meanwhile, Ryan and Esposito are awoken in a dark space with Lockwood filling a tub of water with ice. He asks if they are going to talk or go out slowly. They tell that they are going to give Lockwood problems. Back at the apartment of Jolene, Castle gets into her computer, but needs her mother’s maiden name. Back at the dark hideout, Lockwood is dunking Ryan’s head underwater and Ryan tells that he went to Catholic school and they used to do it to him all the time. Back at Jolene’s, they get Lockwood’s number.

They arrive there and they see a guard. Castle and Beckett get out and pretending to be a couple. The guard walks out and Beckett reaches for her gun. Castle stops her and kisses her. She stops for a second and then starts to kiss Castle again. The man turns to walk away and Beckett knocks him out. Inside, Esposito tells that he will talk. He tells that the police already know about Esposito and Lockwood’s mom. Lockwood tells the guard to shoot out one of Ryan’s kneecaps. Suddenly, Beckett comes in and kills one of the guards. Lockwood lines up his sites and Castle jumps on him from above and saves Beckett’s life. The ambulance comes and Beckett tells that he will be alright. She thanks him. Later that day, Beckett visits Lockwood in prison and tells that she will be there every week until he talks and tells who hired him to kill her. She walks off and the episode ends.
