The scene opens with a woman and a man together, the woman says that she wants to go back to her husband Alfonso and the man says that he wants her. Suddenly there is a man who calls for Angela, the woman in the bed. They scramble to find a place for the man to hide when they open the cupboard and a dead body falls out. They look out to the cameras and the man asks if the Gag Reel is getting thin. However, they realize that it is not a gag and that it is a woman named Sarah. Meanwhile, Martha is cleaning up the kitchen and Castle asks if she is making breakfast. She says that she is cleaning because her School of Acting isn’t ready to be open yet and she is trying to occupy her time. Castle’s phone rings and she gives him an address that Martha recognizes. She says that is where they film the soap opera series “Temptation Lane”. She asks to go with Castle and he says no, but he will keep her updated on the news. Castle arrives on set and Beckett and Esposito tell Castle that Sarah, the girl murdered, was a writer. Castle asks why anyone would want to kill a writer. Castle says that they are entering a world of epic drama and that they need to be sharp. Beckett says that the motives are usually quite ordinary everywhere.

Beckett asks Lanii what they have and Esposito says that the ax in Sara’s back is symbolic because Sarah killed off a character by having an ax kill her in the show. Lanii says that the fans were upset including her for killing off a character that was on the show for 30 years. She says that Sarah was killed there and shoved in the closet. Ryan says that it is possible that someone could have gotten in from the back. Beckett asks about the husband of Sarah and Esposito says that he is on set because he is one of the directors. Ryan and Esposito talk to Mandy Bronson and Lance Buchanan about where they were the night before and Mandy says that she was at her hotel running a bubble bath and soaping herself up. Esposito isn’t concentrating and Ryan gets him back on track. Ryan asks where Lance was and he says that he went home about 6’o’clock. Lance says that Sarah was wonderful and doesn’t know who would have done it. Beckett and Castle talk to Vince Bowers, Sarah’s husband, and he says that he last talked to Sarah around 6’o’clock and she stayed later, which is normal for a head writer. He says that one person might have something to do with it. He says a Blogger by the name of FoxCanLover came to the set and was kicked out. Reese Harman, Sarah’s assistant would know the name of the woman. Suddenly a woman runs up. She is Sarah’s mother. She says that she gave Sarah up for adoption and just got her back. She says that the police better find out who killed Sarah or she will sue the city.
Castle and Beckett talk about how Gloria, Sarah’s mother, is greedy about something. They walk up to Reese Harman. She leads them to her office and says that the Blogger is Carrie Edwards. Beckett asks if Reese stayed late and she tells that she was at a mixer. She pulls up Carrie Edward’s blog and sees a post dated the night of the murder that says, “It’s time to give her the axe.” Castle and Beckett talk to Carrie and she is happy that Sarah is dead and asks if she can Tweet about it. They tell that Sarah was killed with an axe just like what Carrie said that she wanted to do. Carrie says that it is the CanFanzos, the opposition that want Mandy’s character to get back with Alfonzo. The FoxCans were going to send axes to the studio to show that they wanted Sarah fired because she was ruining the show. Carrie says that she was with her parents all night. Castle believes that Carrie couldn’t swing an axe because of her size and Beckett says that Carrie cares about the characters and the things they do. Castle realizes that Beckett watches “Temptation Island”. Beckett tries to deny it, but Castle can see through it. Esposito comes up and says that Carrie’s alibi checks out. He shows that there were meetings that Reese didn’t know about. Ryan says that the husband is gone and the doorman says that Sarah and Vince and Sarah haven’t been living together for 2 months. Beckett says that he is hiding something.
They visit Vince and he says that Sarah’s schedule changed and he had to move out. He says that he didn’t kill his wife and that he was with someone. He leans in and tells that he was with Mandy Bronson. Castle is shocked and Beckett asks if she stayed the night. He says that he got a text from Sarah and left around 7’o’clock. Castle says that the husband didn’t do it because he seemed sincere of his whereabouts. He suggests that they look into Mandy Bronson and see what she knows. They walk to the exit and see Martha walking in. Castle asks what she is doing there and she says that she knows the actors and that she has an inside to what is really going on. They look at Sarah’s email and find the attachment and email that she sent Mandy. It says to meet her at her office ASAP and the attachment is a script where it has Mandy’s character getting killed off.

At the station, Esposito and Castle watch Beckett interview Mandy and she says that Sarah couldn’t ever kill off her. She says that she went to Peter Connolly and went to his apartment and used her “power of persuasion” which means showing up at Peter’s in nothing but a fur coat. They talk to Peter and he tells Reese wrote something that is going to help them along. Castle thinks that it is lucky that Mandy gets to keep her job and Peter says that she is the heart and soul of the show. Esposito says that Vince is off the hook, but the mystery appointments are at a coffee shop with a meeting in an hour. They go there and go up to a waitress. She cries at the fact and Beckett asks if the girl knew Sarah well. She says that she didn’t and tells that she lost her chance of becoming a writer. Castle says that if she can tell who Sarah was meeting all the time, he will look at her script and pass it to his agent. The waitress points out the guy. Beckett and Castle sit down with him and the man says that he is a Private Investigator. He says that he was investigating Gloria, Sarah’s mother. However, Gloria is not Sarah’s mother at all.
At the station, Beckett says that Gloria can’t be found and Castle says that she is trying to hide. Esposito enters with Gloria. He says that she was trying to buy a ticket to the Bahamas. In the interrogation room, Beckett reveals that they know of Gloria’s past and tells that Gloria passed to be her mother and had Sarah make a will leaving her $300,000 if she dies. Gloria says that she was at the better tracks and says that they need to look at the other man in Sarah’s life and says that she got earrings from him. Esposito confirms it through receipts. Ryan found the earrings that Gloria talked about. They need to find the buyer of the earrings and it is Lance Hastings. Esposito also found that the taxicab dropped him off at 8’o’clock at the studio. They can’t get a hold of him. Castle says that his mother was supposed to meet him. He tries to call, but Alexis says that she is not there. Castle hangs up the phone and says that he knows where Lance is. They approach and hear Lance telling Martha that she already knows too much. Castle kicks in the door. Martha tells that they were going over lines and Lance shows that the knife is a prop knife.
In the interrogation room, Lance tells that he was thanking Sarah for getting him out of his contract so that he can do movies. He says that he didn’t want to miss work while working on the movie. However, when he got there, she was reading a script and was crying. She said that someone wasn’t the person they said they were. Beckett finds the deal memo to get Lance a movie deal. Castle says that he is going to pay dearly for accusing Lance. They speculate and Beckett says that someone has an alibi and they are going to find it. Castle gets home and Martha says that Castle can buy her a new outfit. Martha asks who gave him the script and he tells that a girl gave him script to read. Martha says that Temptation Lane is manipulative and Castle realizes who betrayed Sarah. At the set, Beckett tells that they need to make an arrest and Castle says that he wrote a scene for the soap opera and says that the scene is going to reveal the killer. The scene is acted out by Mandy and Lance and it is about copying material. They finish the scene and Reese says that she doesn’t understand. Reese says that she mixed up some of the scripts, and says that she was at the mixer. However, no one remembers her. Beckett tells that she has officers at Reese’s apartment. She says that deserves the opportunity and wouldn’t let Sarah take it away from her.

They arrest her and in the office, Ryan tells Esposito and Castle that he found a shortcut to the Old Haunt, the bar Castle owns. Castle tells that he is going to catch up. He walks up to Beckett and tells that he got her a present. It is a signed cast photo of “Temptation Lane”. Beckett tells that she was 9-years-old and her mom was snuggled up next to her. They watched “Temptation Lane” together. Every time she watches it, she feels safe and warm. Josh calls and Castle tells that he will let her get that. She thanks him for the photo. Castle gets back to the house and finds Martha and Lance on the couch. He asks if they are running lines and Martha says that they are “talking”. Castle takes the hint and says that he is going out.
