Castle: Knockout

Kate Beckett's investigation into her mother's death is reactivated when Hal Lockwood - a professional hitman with knowledge of Beckett's mother's murder - stages a spectacular escape during a court hearing. As police launch a manhunt for Lockwood, Castle and the team uncover evidence of a deeper conspiracy involving a mysterious figure with law enforcement connections who is linked to both Lockwood's escape and the killing of Johanna Beckett. The search for Lockwood and the quest to identify his co-conspirator leads to a shocking and deadly conclusion.

Recap

The scene opens with Castle coming in and tells Esposito and Ryan that he made a graphic novel. Derek Storm is the character. He asks where Beckett is and they tell him that she is talking to Lockwood at the prison. Meanwhile at the prison, Beckett waits to see Lockwood and Officer Ryker is told that he was moved into General Population. She tells that there is an inmate in General Population that Lockwood is going to kill. At the same moment Lockwood is going to McAlister’s cell. He tells him to make it quick. Beckett and a team of prison SWAT team members get to the cell of McAlister but they are too late. Back at the station, Castle says that he is sorry that Lockwood is killing the only people that know about her mother’s death. She says that Lockwood was giving her a new target to look at. She tells Esposito and Ryan to run financials on all the prison staff. She and Castle are going to Lockwood’s arraignment to see if they can draw out the person pulling the strings of the entire thing...

Analysis
Rick Castle introduced the Derrick Storm Graphic Novel at the beginning of the final episode of season three. The episode ends in a cliffhanger and I think Rick might have dropped us a clue.

This morning my wife and I chatted about the final episode and speculated on season four. I remembered that Kevin Smith wrote a graphic novel in the mid-nineties that connected the movies Chasing Amy and Dogma. Want to know about Jay and Silent Bob's journey to Chicago, then check it out Chasing Dogma!

I figure it this way! Ryan carried that Derrick Storm book around in every episode of Season Two. I knew it meant something, and sure enough, it was a clue from the writers to check out the Derrick Storm books. They secretly let it slip the book wasn't just a prop. I believe the graphic novel is the same clue and we should pick it up.
