The scene opens with a person breaking into a museum. The next day, the museum open to a Gala and the McHugh couple are meeting with the museum coordinator about their piece of art. However, Mr. Hayes, the museum manager, is missing. Alyssa goes off to find him and manages to find him with an art sculpture spiked through him. Meanwhile, Castle is at home writing more of his next novel when Martha comes in and tells him that she wants him at her next acting meeting because there is a girl she wants him to meet. He says that it is not a good idea and says that he can’t make it. Martha asks if he is saving himself for someone. Suddenly Beckett calls and it is clear that Castle isn’t going to go after anyone else.

Castle gets to the museum and meets with Beckett. They go into the room where Hayes was found. Esposito says that Hayes could have possibly walked in on a person committing another crime. “The Fist of Capitalism” was the one stolen. Ryan talks to Alyssa and she is devastated. She says that she is an artist and Hayes put a piece in the show. She says that Hayes was worried that someone was going to steal The Fist that is worth $50 Million. Castle and Beckett are theorizing when a woman named Serena Kaye, an insurance investigator. She says that she gets a 1% Finders Fee and she says intimate details regarding the case. Castle says that Serena has good assets and that she could be right. Beckett has Esposito check the loading bays like Serena said.
Back at the station, Beckett tells Castle that the security tape pulled up nothing because someone hacked into it and played a constant loop. However, they found hair gel in the air duct. Castle reminds Beckett that is what Serena said as well. Ryan says that Serena was right and the loading bay as well. Captain Gates calls Beckett into her office. Serena is there and Gates says that they are hiring her as a consultant. Beckett tries to decline, but Gates insists. Serena says that this is the best way for them to get what they want. Ryan brings Serena up to speed and Castle is very interested in Serena and Beckett notices. Ryan says that the security footage is saved to flash drives and Hayes checked the one from two weeks ago out. Esposito comes in and meets Serena. He comes in and says that they have found an ISI (Inductive Signal Interrupter). Serena says that she knows who stole The Fist and says that his name is Falco. She tells that she has contacts and says that Beckett can’t come because the people who she is going to talk to don’t like cops. Despite Beckett’s glares, Castle goes with her because he is not a cop.
They arrive at a bar and a man comes up to Serena. He asks what she wants and she says that she heard that someone was pushing diamonds. He says that he doesn’t know anything until she gives him money. They find out that there was a guy. At the station, Esposito gives Falco’s file and says that Falco is a hit for hire. Joy McHugh comes in and says that her husband Anton hired the man. They sit down with her and she says that Anton has always wanted The Fist and that he tried to steal it before. Beckett talks to Anton McHugh and he admits that it was a misunderstanding. Beckett says that movers with sketchy records were hired. Anton says that he only pretended to like The Fist. Ryan asks if Beckett believes their story and she says that she doesn’t know. Castle and Serena return from the bar and tell that Hayes met with Serena’s contact and that Hayes asked about the diamonds. Serena tells that she has to go and Castle says that he will go with her, but she tells him that she doesn’t need him.

The next day, Castle tells Martha about Serena and says that she is interesting. Martha takes this as something more, but Castle says that it is complicated between him and Beckett. Meanwhile, Beckett talks to the state psychologist and she says that her and Castle’s relationship is “complicated” Castle gets into the station and Beckett teases him for spending a lot of time with Serena. He asks Beckett if he should pursue it. She tells him that he should. However, it is clear that she means something different. Ryan comes in and says that there was correspondence on Haye’s computer saying that they needed to meet. Esposito says that there was a meeting at a restaurant and that Hayes met with the mystery man possibly. They go to the restaurant and find out that the man was actually Serena.
Ryan and Esposito tell Beckett and Castle that Serena is actually an alleged art thief. Castle can’t believe that he got played and Gates tells Beckett that she needs to be brought in. Beckett has a plan where Castle is going to ask Serena on a date. He does and Beckett and Esposito search Serena’s hotel room. Inside, Beckett finds the right information. Downstairs, Castle and Serena have a talk and she admits to being a reclaimer of art. Castle tries to stall Serena as they walk upstairs to Serena’s room. The door opens and Castle distracts Serena by kissing her. Beckett tells them to stop and says that Serena is under arrest because they found everything that points to her as the murderer. However, at the station, Castle says that she couldn’t be the murderer because she admitted to being a thief. Beckett refused to allow him to be in the interrogation. Beckett sits down with Serena and she tells that she never killed anyone and that she will give up who Falco is.
Beckett, Castle and Serena watch as Serena plays the video before. A man is casing the place. Esposito comes in and says that they have the hotel room of Falco. They bust in and take him into custody. The man says that his name is William Holt. However, Beckett says that they knows who he is. Falco says that he is not a murderer and neither wants to talk about it. Serena says that she wants to talk to him and he does. He admits that he was the one who messed with the surveillance, but says that he never stole The Fist and says that he saw a woman in a black dress walked up to The Fist. Castle says that the killer is crafty. They get to the museum and they can’t figure out how the killer took it out of there. However, they find it in an art installation. Alyssa comes in and it is her art that Castle kicked in and asks why The Fist was inside. She is confused and then remembers the person who bought it. The buy was Joy McHugh.

They bring her in and she tries to deny it until they tell that they have her bloody fingerprints inside. Afterward, Serena asks when she could have The Fist back and says that she has a big payout. Beckett says that Castle is a good man and that she could be safe to go out with him. Castle comes up and Beckett says that she is going to file and Serena says that she doesn’t steal things that belong to someone else. Beckett asks why he and Serena are not going out. Castle lies and says that he can’t afford it. He gives her the bill that he got from the museum for kicking the art display. The episode ends with Beckett offering to buy Castle a cheeseburger and Castle accepts.
