Till Death Do Us Part - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
The scene opens with a man dropping dead on a fruit heap in front of a young couple (customers hitting on each other) at a pavement. As the woman shrieks alarming people around, the scene shifts to the detective’s office. While Detective Ryan and his fiancé are sharing a moment of amorous demeanor in front of detectives Castle, Beckett and other colleagues, Esposito receives a call about the latest development. Not before long, the detectives arrive at the scene, and notice the love marks on the victim’s back. Up at the hotel room on the eighth floor, the window from which he fell, the victim’s turns out to be Michael Bailey – a junior analyst in a tech firm Global Consolidation in midtown. It also turns out that the room was booked under a female’s name – Jane Air, and no credit card was used, but cash. Castle points out that could be the sign of a premeditated murder.

Not before long, Beckett picks out the glass that bears the fingerprints. They ID the woman as a Ms. Holly Franklin, partner at a law firm. She does not know who Michael Bailey is, but when she looks at the photo of the victim, she confirms she knows him as Jake Hendricks. Franklin found him really sweet, and almost fell in love with him. She did not kill him. Moreover, she met him at the bar only that night, and felt a magical connection that one only reads about. After making love, he started to get dizzy and sweaty, opened the window, leaned out of it, and before she knew, he fell out of the window. Dr. Parish later confirms it was not an accident. He was drugged. Moreover, he wasn’t with just one woman, but two. When the detectives determine the time of the death to be something between 4 and 6 pm, Esposito comes in with information that no near kin of the victim is traceable. Parents died years ago, and no real friends or relatives are to be found.

Later, when Castle is readying breakfast at home, he asks his daughter and his mother how they would confront a man if he were cheating on them. His mother says she would drive a knife into his heart, and his daughter prefers shooting. Castle, while years of writing crime stories, did not know he was living with murderers, but he gets the idea about what women usually would want to do. Later, when he and Beckett arrive at the police station, Beckett wants to know if Esposito and colleagues have been able to track down Bailey’s other lovers. They have, and it is a roomful of them. Not only did he date so many, but each one was under the impression she was the only one for Bailey. Castle confirms the room is humming not just with oomph, but anger.

Esposito later tells Castle and Beckett that all the girls knew Bailey by his real name. Castle points out why would he then have told Holly a fake name. And there is more to the mystery as Esposito continues. He had told all these women he was leaving for Europe, but turns out he did not even leave New York. And he took a leave from his firm – Global Consolidations – for a month. While that sounds suspicious enough, Detective Ryan walks in with his discovery from the apartment where Bailey was staying. A fake ID – with the name Jake Hendricks from Illinois (not Michael Bailey from Chicago) – and he has been only a couple of days in his apartment over the last one month. What’s more intriguing – he had $60,000 cash in his apartment. After Beckett wants to confirm if the victim was working for CIA, FBI or the like, she gets to the firm where he worked as a junior analyst. It turns out Bailey was a bright kid – according to the chief – and a woman recently tried to break into his office. An office woman describes her as exotic, black curly hair, and the moment she got confronted, she tried acting smart, and dashed into escaping.

Later, the detectives find out that the woman is a flight attendant frequenting on flights between Tel Aviv and JFK. Esposito and Ryan ID her as Collette Roth, and turns out she participated in the military as well. While they are behind another tip Ryan’s received on a St. Samuel’s doctor, they discover that flight is landing at JFK – good time to bring in Collette Roth. At the interrogation, she confirms that she thought Bailey and she were soul mates. She broke into Michael’s office because she hoped to get a trace of him. While she was also among the ones informed that Michael would be in Europe, she kept finding Michael in the city, and he would not recognize her. Later, when they met, he told her he will explain everything later. While Beckett assumes that was the last time she saw him, she lets on that they met the next day – and before he could begin to talk, he was captured in a car by a group of men in ‘ski masks’. Collette tried fighting them – which turns out true from a surveillance tape, and she probably managed to break the nose of one of the kidnappers while fighting them.

Castle thinks Bailey is a secret agent on some operation, and a month ago he was given his alias, and the cash to walk around. Franklin is another secret agent who was hired to kill him by poisoning, and enemies were the one to kidnap him. When Beckett gets a call with information that neither CIA nor any of those bodies have heard of him, Castle points out they would never reveal such information. Soon after that, the detectives have the plate number of the car that was used to abduct Bailey. The owner of the vehicle is an insurance agent, and they have his address. The detectives break into an apartment to find two couples making out. One of them have a broken nose and the detectives easily identify them as the kidnappers.

When they are brought into the interrogation cell, they reveal that Michael was their friend, and they were pick up artists – continually in competition over the hottest women. But they cannot believe Michael is dead. All that mattered to them was the number of women they bedded in a given time. And when they came to know about Collette, all that mattered was getting Michael off her hook – it seemed he is about to marry her. And so, they took him away from her – it was not a serious kidnapping incident. Through the interrogation, they let on that Michael maintained a journal of the woman he bedded, in which Collette hardly deserved a place. Beckett and Castle go through the journal, 100s of women, and find out that ‘Gyrating Jenny’ is a really big suspect.

Esposito and Ryan get to the bar and find out that the woman who was with Michael at the bar is Lisa Hill – someone who is not only married, but related to a ‘Fortune 400’ company. When they get her to the interrogation cell, she identifies the victim as Jake Hendricks – just like Holly Franklins. Besides, she does not know what Beckett is talking about when she accuses her of blackmailing him. She found her husband to be a workaholic and brought Jake (Michael Bailey) home, and caught him on the computer trying to steal money, credit card details and stuff. Right after that, she kicked him out. And that was the last time Lisa Hill swears she saw him.

Esposito finds out that Lisa’s husband Ron Hill is a chief at KPW – a major corporation – and so, the colleagues point out that if anyone had a motive to kill Bailey, it was him – he was running a majorly fraudulent email operation to negotiate a deal. Moreover – who’s the lawyer for KPW – Holly Franklin, the woman who has already exposed the fact she was in the hotel with Bailey the night he died. Now the Holly-Lisa connection becomes clear. Moreover, ‘Gyrating Jenny’ works at Global Consolidations. Not before long, Beckett and Castle are interviewing Global Consolidations chief – the person leading the company in which Bailey served as a junior consultant. Although he seems to be passively helpful at first, saying many things are confidential, he is quick to say he doesn’t want any more questions, especially after the detectives accuse him of providing Bailey the false ID.

When the investigation continues back at the office, it turns out from Bailey’s residential records, that the woman who let on information about stalker Collette was the one who is the sure suspect. Castle and Beckett get to Bailey’s Global Consolidation, and take her into custody. While Holly Franklins and chief are also at the meeting, scared to death, Castle lets on the SEC is on its way. At Ryan’s wedding, while Esposito is surprised to learn that the St. Samuel’s doctor has been generously allowed to be with Dr. Parish for dancing by his boyfriend, Beckett is generous enough to save Castle from the stigma of sitting at a singles’ table. The episode ends.
