Episode Notes

Dan Castellaneta is better known as the voice of Homer Simpson.

Stephen J. Cannell in addition to his history as a crime writer is a prolific writer for many crime dramas and creator/co-creator of many well-known ones, including The Rockford Files, The Greatest American Hero, The A-Team, Wiseguy, 21 Jump Street, and Silk Stalkings. He also was producer for many series, and had acting roles on others, including the hero's chief nemesis, "Dutch" Dixon on the series Renegade. While few of his TV shows are "high concept", they all share a quality of popularly received elements.

Episode Quotes

(handing her a glass of champagne)
Alexis: You know I'm only fifteen, right?
Castle: You're an old soul.
Alexis: (putting it up on the bar) Well, me and my soul can wait.
Castle: (smiles indulgently) When I was your age... (catches himself) I can't tell that story... it's wildly inappropriate. Which, oddly, is my point. Don't you want to have wildly inappropriate stories that you can't tell your children?
Alexis: (smiling) I think you have enough for the both of us.

Castle: Life should be an adventure. You want to know why I killed Derek? No more suprises. I knew exactly what was going to happen every moment of every scene. It's like these parties, they've become so predictable! (falsetto whining voice) "I'm your biggest fan", "Where do you get your ideas?"...
Alexis: And the ever popular, "Will you sign my chest?" ("finger" quotes around "chest")
Castle: That one I don't mind so much.
Alexis: Yeah, well, FYI, I do.

Castle: Just once, I'd like someone to come up to me and say something new.
Beckett: Mr. Castle?
Castle: (pulling out a pen, expecting an autograph seeker) Where would you like it?
Beckett: (waving a badge) Detective Kate Beckett. NYPD. We need to ask you a few questions about a murder that took place earlier tonight.
Alexis: That's new...

Beckett: Why are you here? You don't care about the victims, so you aren't here for justice. You don't care that the guy's aping your books, so you aren't here because you're outraged. So what is it, Rick? Are you here to annoy me?

Javier: The man's got the mayor on speed dial! The rich really are different!
Beckett: You want him, he's yours.
Javier: A control freak like you with something that you can't control? No, no, no, no -- that's gonna be more fun than Shark Week!

Beckett: He's like a nine year old on a sugar rush. Totally incapable of taking anything seriously.

Beckett: Welcome to reality, superstar.
Castle: Well, I never did much like reality.

Javier: No, no, no, no -- that's gonna be more fun than Shark Week!

Shark Week is a week-long series of feature television programs specifically regarding sharks, running on The Discovery Channel. It first aired in the summer of 1987, and is held annually, usually during July/August. The Discovery Channel does promote it heavily, and it is very popular, though it is also often denigrated as a promo gimmick of little significance or value.

Martha: That makes about as much sense as "Mousetrap". I did that play eight times a week for a year, I still have no idea what it's about...

The play, The Mousetrap, is an Agatha Christie murder mystery. First opening in the West End of London in 1952, it has been running continuously there ever since. This gives it the longest initial run for any known play in history, currently at over 23,000 performances and still going. This also make it the longest running show of any type in modern times. Known for its twist ending, the audience is asked not to reveal it to others at the end of each performance.
