At the Holby Docks, a drum of toxic gas falls on two dockers - one dies and the other suffers a badly burnt leg. Other workers are also poisoned. The team try to identify the substance - Kuba recognises the symptoms from a previous case, because of it's smell of garlic. At the end of shift the staff congratulate him for saving lives and give him a bunch of flowers, as his were stolen.
Duffy advises a young girl, Sophie, to drink milk after drinking car fluid from her fathers garage. The girl's mum is interfering and scares Sophie, telling her that 'nurse has got a needle.'
A stubborn man is being treated by Charlie after being hit on the head with a golf ball. He is not happy with his treatment and says he will complain to Charlie's boss. Charlie tells the man that he's his own boss. The man then annoys Baz who pretends that the man has something wrong with him for a joke. When he demands an apology, she tells him to shut up.
A young girl, Jackie, phones for an ambulance, after her step sister, Debbie, falls from a bridge, near a railway line. She suffers head injuries, and needs an operation with consent, but the team find it hard getting Jackie to speak. Eventually she tells Clive.
A woman, Ruth White, turns up in Reception with a baby - Susie says she looks odd. Ruth overhears and heads for the toilets, with a pair of scissors. It turns out she snatched the baby earlier from it's mother, and she threatens to stab the baby. Baz tries to handle the situation calmly, but the baby is already dead.
Megan criticises Baz for allowing a pregnant mother who wants her baby induced for convenience, to be admitted. A man, Jonathan, is relieved to find that his pains are muscle spasms, not a heart attack that he first feared. But he is afraid his friend, Richard, will make fun of him, so Charlie gives him a fake prescription.
As Baz arrives late into the department, she first has to certify the death of a young girl.
It's football day - Holby v Tottenham. A 16 year old boy is picked up, wrongly accused of attacking a policeman. He is discharged from the hospital, where he later returns with his deranged father - it turns out he attacked the policeman and his son. He threatens staff with a Stanley knife.
Tuesday, a young woman, is brought in by her boyfriend, Steve. She has appendicitis and needs an operation - but she is a Christian Scientist and refuses to sign the consent form. Megan asks the staff to pray for her, and miraculously her pain is cured.
Ewart is angry that Charlie has invited a Fleet Street journalist, Harry Horner, to write about the permanent night shift. Fed up being there, Harry gets drunk and is sick over the reception desk - the staff sober him up with a fully clothed shower.
After a motorway pile-up, involving two men, driver John and Andy, in a lorry, and a couple, Derek and Lindsay in a car. The men suffer minor injuries, but the couple both die. John blames himself. Surgical Registrar, Rupert Thalton, who Baz dislikes, is keen to take the organs from the woman. Baz breaks the bad news to Lindsay's parents, who reveal she was pregnant.
An unhelpful newspaper article is published, and reveals nothing about the work of the department; the staff, especially Ewart, are not happy.
A 16 year old runaway, Carrie, phones the Samaritans, after taking an overdose. She gets through to Jed Carver, who goes to the address she has given, and takes her to hospital. She is also a heroin addict. DI Fox gets involved, after reports of a break in, and he thinks Jed is her dealer, he lets on this information to her parents - her Dad goes storming through the department and attempts to attack Jed, until Jed explains who he is - that he has never met Carrie before and was only trying to help.
During a lively meeting with staff - chaired by Union Rep Charlie and Andrew Ponting, Duffy calls for a demonstration outside a cinema, which is showing 'naughty nurse' films.
A law student, Mark Richards, is brought in after convulsing in a library. Baz tells him he has epilepsy, but he denies it and discharges himself. Charlie, sees him outside and gives him a lift, he takes him to breakfast. He advises Mark, who is afraid of fitting in a lawyer's court.
A pregnant 15 year old, Nuala, is brought in after being knocked down with her bike, by a lorry. She has head injuries and a fractured arm. But the team are more worried by the fact she is a runaway, and where she will go after the hospital discharges her.
Charlie goes to see Baz's flat after their night shift - they end up in bed together. Again, she says to him, she can't commit to a relationship. Charlie discovers at work, she has been taking 'speed' to keep her awake at night, and criticises her for taking them.
A woman, Julia, is raped and assaulted, comes in with her young son, Edward. Charlie discovers the boy has also been sexually abused. His architect father, Philip, an old friend of Mr Thalton, turns up and is interviewed by Charlie and Clive, they all believe he is guilty, apart from Thalton.
An alcoholic tramp, Mrs Cook, who has hurt her ankle, infests the department with fleas. The staff are left scratching for the rest of the shift.
Mr McFarlen comes in with abdomen pains, Baz calls Thalton down on Clive's recommendation, as she hasn't had time to look at him herself. But Thalton is annoyed, when he wasn't needed, as his ulcer was not perforated and didn't need operating.
Charlie fine tunes his car, ready for Duffy, who is due to take her driving test at the end of shift.
Two taxi drivers, Ken and Les, are both brought in, after ammonia is thrown in their faces by a crazed woman, in separate attacks. Their eyes are irrigated, but Megan is worried about the safety of husband, Ted, who is also a taxi driver. She tries to call him, as does the taxi control office woman, Cheryl, who puts out a warning over the radio, but Ted has his turned off. Outside the cinema, the same woman gets into Ted's cab - he avoids the attack, and talks to the woman for over an hour, he feels sorry for her. The police are then called to take her away, Ted makes a statement. When he collects Megan from work, he is thinking of retiring. Megan tells him she has cancer, and what her hysterectomy will mean for them.
Duffy's nurse friend, Trish, is moonlighting part-time at a pub. A regular, Tom, gives her a lift home, as she gets out of the car, Tom attempts to sexually assault her, during the struggle her fingers are trapped in the car door. She demands him to take her to hospital, where Duffy treats her painful injuries. Duffy says she should report it, but she says she will lose her job and she needs the money. She says she is leaving nursing as she wants a higher paid job - Duffy questions her on job satisfaction or more money.
Paramedic Andy, has spent the night with Sandra Mute. As they get ready for work, she reminds him he's a married man. Clive and Charlie make fun of Duffy, who's failed her driving test after crashing into a pedestrian bollard. Duffy argues with Kuba about the untidiness of the store room - Megan tells her to give him a break, as he works hard.
An old man, Harry, is brought in from a home. Baz says he hasn't got long left. His four old friends, Arthur, Ernie, Mike and Lagger, steal the home's minibus to travel to see him. As Kuba is wheeling to another was, he stops to deal with a Polish woman who has slipped over in the corridor. As he returns to Harry - he has gone - Kuba worries because of the 'full moon'. But his friends have taken him into the toilets. They help him dress and shave, to look his best for a lady friend, Mrs Eccles, but he dies before she sees him.
Megan is in an upstairs cubicle, waiting for her operation, she tells Charlie she is bored. While Clive acts as a decoy with Sister Phillips, Charlie and Kuba wheel Megan downstairs to the A&E department. Kuba is trying to sell raffle tickets to buy a new ventilator - Clive tells him off for not getting Ewart's permission first. Charlie continues to flirt with Baz.
An Asian teenage boy, Amrit, gets drunk by a dare on his birthday, after breaking into a house with his mates, Karen and Ray. They attempt to revive him with amalnitrate, but as it gets worse, Ray runs off. Karen goes to the hospital with him, but refuses to co-operate, he dies before the team discover what he's taken. His mother (who can't speak English), and sister, Rama, come in, where Baz tells them the bad news. After Rama speaks with Karen, she threatens Ewart with a lawsuit, saying more should've been done.
Charlie chases Baz through an empty corridor, and they kiss in the staffroom. Baz then goes to see Megan, who is resting upstairs after her operation - she also talks to Ted, who is worried about Megan. Susie is getting crank dirty phone calls in reception, after one too many calls, she finally shouts at them.
A restaurant owner, Demitri, chops off his finger, while in the kitchen, after arguing with Adonis, about finding a cockroach in a dish. Paramedics pick them up, and Mute finds they have put his finger in some strawberry ice cream, to keep it cold.
At a school disco, Salim fancies a girl called Annabel, he has been drinking. She whispers to him to meet her in the changing rooms for a joke. While he waits for her, he stands on the diving board of the pool, singing and drinking. As Annabel goes to see if he's still waiting there, she finds him face down in the pool. In CRASH the team shock him back to life, and he is sent to ITU. The teacher comforts Annabel, who feels guilty.
Duffy visits Megan in the ward, and tells her about her attack, something she has been unable to talk about with the others. The staff are all very polite with her, and tell her she can go home, but after the leak in her roof, which gave her a hole in the ceiling, she needs the money.
A drunk, Alex McAlon, pesters Susie in reception. PC Law is brought in after being KO'd, they suspect teenager Mr Bridgewater, who stole a car, and crashed into them, but it turns out the driver was Alex, who is then arrested.
Ewart tells Kuba off for stealing light bulbs and a scrabble board. Ewart has been watching a local boxing tournament in the Porters Lodge. Henry McCarthy wins the match, as he knocks the other boxer unconscious, but it is him who is brought in after collapsing, by his pregnant wife, Gail, and his manager, Terry Fairbrother. Baz argues with Terry over boxing ethics, while Henry is taken in, after suffering an extra dural brain injury.
Megan is woken early by the police holding a siege next door. Baz gives herself a pregnancy test and avoids a suspicious Charlie, who can see she is very upset.
Clive tells Charlie off for leaving the keys by the drugs cupboard.
A Danish man, Peet, crashes his Mercedes, after having chest pains.
It's nearing Christmas in Holby, Ewart's wife, Roz, asks him to meet her at the spot where he proposed to her. She brings out glasses and champagne and asks him to come back - he laughs at the idea, and she walks off. He later rings up and apologises, asking her for dinner next week.
Charlie spots Baz arriving home with a male friend, she has not been at work for two days. Duffy tells Susie she saw Baz coming out of a clinic, and rumours spread fast about her abortion. When Kuba finds out, he goes and sees Baz with a bunch of flowers, she has just been fighting with Charlie. Kuba says he is sorry she lost her baby - Charlie is shocked. Later in the staffroom, Clive is discussing with Charlie a case about a virgin male patient, who is worried about his performance on his wedding night. Charlie misunderstands him, thinking he's referring to him and Baz and attempts to hit him. Baz comes in and in confidence tells Charlie it was his baby - he is angry, but she does not regret it.
The staff hear the bad news; they are to be shut down in one month. They meet to discuss ways of gaining public support.
As Kuba is passing a warehouse on his bike, he witnesses a man, Bob, attacking another man, Lyndsey, with a baseball bat, after learning he has had an affair with his wife. He breaks up the fight, and Lyndsey is taken to hospital. Bob comes to the hospital, asking for Kuba, he cuts Kuba's hand and threatens him so as he doesn't tell the police. Ewart invites Kuba to spend New Year with him, for his own safety.
A missionary man, Mr Whitefinch, is brought in with suspected Lavassa fever, the hospital is evacuated, while the decontamination takes place. Charlie organises an impromptu pantomime to raise morale - they dress up in costumes and sing. Baz and Charlie exchange Christmas gifts.
Duffy carts the brat into the hospital for a visit.
Nurse Charlie Fairhead is threatening to resign. The financial pressures of the NHS are getting to him and he's fed up with lying to the public about hospital patients who "came in sick and end up dead".
Duffy is welcomed back to Holby by Charlie, and a patient with a needle phobia causes chaos in reception. Tina tries to control her temper while dealing with a drunk driver, and a pedestrian injured in an accident hides a secret. At the end of a long day, a house-warming party could be just the medicine that the stressed staff need.
Comfort, Finn are on a train heading home to Holby when it derails at a tunnel entrance. They ignore their minor injuries and start to aid the other passengers. Unbeknownst to them, Anna is also on the train... trapped and badly injured. Simon returns to work and almost immediately offends the new head nurse.
Comfort is trapped with several children in the car when the tunnel collapsed and stuggles to save the life of one of the kids. Merlin bluffs his way onto the crash site to be at Anna's side. Harry, Charlie and the team work to free Anna before they are forced to evacuate.
Holby City Hospital is reeling from the train disaster; Merlin keeps vigil at Anna's bedside.

Abs reveals to Nina that he witnessed Guppy's attack but won't be going to the police. Woody gets his DNA test results and a new arrival in the department makes an absent Harry very unpopular.
Guppy is horrified when Abs comes clean to him about witnessing the attack. A badly beaten Jas is brought to the hospital, a victim of Lee and the gang, and Harry is urged to operate. Bruno takes a backhander from an undertaker for recommending the firm to grieving relatives, then goes on to give an impassioned speech about patient care over bureaucracy.
Abs tells an angry Nina he is going to testify against the racist gang, but this does little to placate her. Guppy is still reeling from the attack on his father and can't face taking the case any further. He decides to look at Jas's hospital records when he realises something is wrong, and is devastated at what he finds. Meanwhile, sparks fly when Harry returns from holiday.
Guppy is elated when he visits his father and they begin to settle their differences. However, his world soon crumbles when a shocking request from Jas leaves him in an impossible position. Rumours about Nina being promiscuous ruin her chances of a reconciliation with Abs, and Harry tries to crack the whip with the staff, whose festive spirit leaves him out in the cold.
It's the day of the hospital Christmas party, a posh ticket-only bash at a hotel across town. However, this being Holby, disaster isn't far around the corner, and sure enough, on their way to the bash the medics soon find themselves in the middle of a huge traffic pile-up which traps them all inside a packed, claustrophobic tunnel. Luckily, the team are virtually uninjured and set about helping the other passengers - including a drastically unwell teenage girl - while outside the tunnel, Selena is first there and forced to cope single-handedly until the emergency services arrive.
At the heart of the accident scene, Donna begins raiding cars to find equipment to treat the injured, while Kelsey is overcome by her fear of the dark - and no amount of consoling from Woody seems to help. But an attempt to save a baby soon threatens the lives of all those who are trapped.
Jas begs Guppy for help as his condition rapidly deteriorates. Tess uncovers Bruno's undertaker racket, and Harry realises Ellen's offer of support isn't all it seems. Nina agrees to get back with Abs provided the pair take things slowly and have some fun - but the nurse's impromptu rendition of the Full Monty backfires when most of the staff witness his raunchy routine.
Jas desperately tries a different tack and asks his son to steal medicine to help him overdose, but as Guppy attempts to meet his request, a suspicious Abs follows his trail. Harry tries to cool off his relationship with Ellen, but a trip to the opera soon leads to a change of heart. Meanwhile, Bruno makes some easy cash by offering a patient travel jabs privately.
As Jas becomes increasingly distressed by his condition, Guppy begs Harry to help him. However, the shocking news soon breaks that the invalid has taken matters into his own hands. Bruno's conscience is troubled when he realises his underhand dealings are fuelling a woman's drug dependency. Nina and Ellen help out at the scene of an accident.
A visiting journalist watches Harry struggling to attend to Nathan's mother within the allocated time, leading to a mix-up with her treatment. Maggie warns Kelsey not to fall under Bruno's bad influence when he brags about receiving money for a course he didn't attend. Resentful of her meddling, he turns the tables and makes a recording for the roving reporter of her ranting about the four-hour rule.
Maggie is left reeling when she is quoted verbatim in the Gazette and accused of speaking to the Press. Selena asks Harry out on a date, but Bruno sees Ellen getting out of his car and wastes no time spreading the news. However, the meddler is caught out himself when Kelsey sees him giving a woman Botox treatment.
Ellen and Harry receive a call from a boy whose mother has gone into labour following a car crash. They attempt to help him deliver the baby himself - but tragedy strikes. Charlie's words of warning fall on deaf ears when he catches Bruno giving Kelsey her Botox, and an emotional Maggie tries to save a drug addict who has contracted hepatitis B.
Bruno runs scared when a patient returns with an infection following one of his piercings and Charlie quizzes him about the illegal prescriptions. However, he wrestles with his conscience when he sees an ailing Mary being admitted for treatment. Harry refuses to believe Ellen is pregnant and accuses her of attention seeking, while Maggie's protestations of innocence fall on deaf ears.
Sam shadows Luke and Nina in the ambulance as they head to a railway incident. He suddenly finds himself alone and taking instructions on his mobile phone as he tends a boy with a broken ankle. Nina pursues a dismissive Harry until he accepts the truth about Ellen's pregnancy, and Maggie takes advantage of Nathan's apology to ask if she can open a clinic.
Harry wants to do the right thing by the baby and decides to propose to Ellen. On the opening day of the hepatitis B clinic, Maggie berates a woman for allowing her daughter to work as a prostitute. Sam is forced to put his dreams of becoming a paramedic on hold, prompting him to consider resigning.
Selena considers resigning as police surgeon after failing to section an unstable woman who goes on to endanger the lives of those around her. Charlie distributes leaflets in the red-light district to help the failing hepatitis B clinic, but is arrested after being set up by a disapproving pimp.
A panic-stricken Kelsey allows a patient to discharge herself, fearing she will spill the beans about their shared past. However, Luke becomes privy to her secret when the woman's condition is discovered to be life-threatening. Sam struggles to cope with the demands of his first day as an HCA.
A distraught Ellen is dealt a double blow when she goes for her scan. Tess tells Sam she doesn't think he can handle his new job when he gets emotionally involved in a patient's plight. Meanwhile, Selena feels frustrated in her relationship with Nathan and contemplates calling it a day.
Nina uses her Army training to rescue a marathon runner trapped in a bog, prompting the frustrated technician to set her sights on becoming a paramedic. A first-aider at the race asks Comfort out on a date. Ellen receives further bad news and Selena grows uncomfortable under Nathan's watchful eye.
An optimistic Nina accompanies Ellen to her appointment with the specialist. Selena confides in Maggie as she becomes increasingly concerned about Nathan's preoccupation with her, and the pair sneak into his office, where they find incriminating CCTV footage. Meanwhile, Sam helps the new receptionist settle in.
Ellen defiantly throws the letter about her chemotherapy session in the bin. She breaks down in front of a sympathetic Nina after lying to everyone about her test results. Luke lends money to a drug addict and takes him under his wing, much to the chagrin of Charlie, whose son Louis has an accident.
Two trouble-makers fall through the roof of a hall while a charity football match takes place nearby. Referee Luke tends the boys and takes one of them under his wing when he spots his potential as a soccer player. Ellen struggles to hide her cancer, while Maggie gets a romantic email from a stranger.
Charlie's son Louis plays Cupid for his father, but his efforts are thwarted when Maggie's husband turns up with surprising news. Ellen confesses to Nina that her treatment isn't working and she needs a much stronger form of chemotherapy. Meanwhile, Luke's soccer protege lets him down badly.
Maggie tries to hide her anguish as she tells her children they have the chance to go to Malaysia for a year with their father. New receptionist Alice packs her bags after the four-week trial, doubtful she will be asked to stay on, and Nina catches Ellen off guard after trying to put on a brave face.
Ellen begs Abs not to tell anyone the truth after he discovers her secret, while Luke is plagued by a series of hoax calls. Maggie feels upstaged by a rival bidding to win a new consultancy post and a woman who has miscarried continues to let her husband believe she is still pregnant.
Ellen collapses in the street, and despite Tess's attempts to keep her hidden, Kelsey and Sam discover her secret. Harry gives Maggie advice on her interview, and warns her to watch her temper, while Luke arranges a football trial with Holby United for Sol.
Luke and Comfort find themselves in the middle of a dangerous drugs deal after Sol calls begging them for help. Kelsey and Guppy argue when a patient asks for relationship advice, and Nathan annoys Maggie by talking about his preferred candidate for the consultant position.
Maggie arrives late for the consultant position interview when she is delayed treating a patient, and pulls no punches when asked about hospital quotas. Ellen returns to work, determined to prove she is well, and Kelsey ensures the arrival of a hen night proves hard work for Guppy.
Selena returns to the hospital, and is annoyed to learn Maggie is no longer a consultant - and an associate specialist position has been advertised. Ellen tells Nina to move back home with Abs, and gives the pair a present to thank them for their support, while Kelsey tells her latest date she is an air stewardess.
Nathan announces Selena's promotion to associate specialist, leaving Maggie unsure how to react. Abs has reason to worry when Adrian comes in to complain about a breach of patient confidentiality, while Greg and Nina find treating a drug-user hard work when he persists in asking for morphine.
Nathan embarks on a hunt to find out who failed to dispose of the needle that pricked him. A patient in the hepatitis B clinic tries to steal drugs, jeopardising Maggie's attempt to keep it open, while Nina and Kelsey make a bet on whether Greg is gay after discovering he wears mascara.
Nathan is still angry about his injury, and accuses Sam of not properly disposing of the needle, suggesting his illness makes him unfit to work. The junior member of staff agrees to resign - until Charlie intervenes with a few home truths. Meanwhile, Nina steps in to help when Comfort is threatened by a drunken patient.
Abs grows increasingly jealous of Greg's relationship with Nina, and is upset when his girlfriend organises a house party without telling him. A patient inspires Guppy to start living his life to the full, while Tess and Sam argue about Mike's return from hospital.
Tess hits the bottle after Mike delivers devastating news, while Guppy worries he has lost his virginity when he wakes up with Kelsey after the house party. Nina breaks the rules to help a fisherman fulfil his friend's last wishes, and Ellen receives the results of her HCG test.
When a young girl is mauled at a dog breeder's and exploding gas canisters create even more medical emergencies out on the farm, Nina defies her suspension and follows Josh to the fire to try to help the other paramedics. Her frustration results in a reckless attitude but will she save lives or jeopardise her own safety?
Nathan encourages everyone to make sure the department runs smoothly to impress the visiting Chief Executive. However, friction between Guppy and Harry regarding the treatment of an overweight patient shows the hospital in a bad light. Nathan ends the day feeling stressed and makes a shocking confession to Selena.
Meanwhile, Kelsey notices Alice's crush on Guppy and gives her a makeover for Ellen's party in the hope that the quiet doctor will notice the quiet receptionist. Will her plan work?

Charlie, Guppy, Abs and Comfort head to Cambodia to help out Duffy. When a young boy asks for help with his sick father, it sparks a chain of events that put Guppy's surgical skills to the test and prompt Charlie to raise suspicions about the clinic's surgeon, Mike.
Meanwhile, back in England, Maggie and Harry are learning to work with a new doctor on exchange from Cambodia. When a young man is brought in, suffering from an overdose, a call from Cambodia forces Harry to make a decision that will have fatal consequences.
As tensions run high in Holby, things take a turn for the worse when a bus full of schoolchildren crashes and topples over.
The ward is in chaos in the wake of the school bus accident and tensions are running high between Harry and the new doctor, Somnang.
Meanwhile, even under traumatic circumstances, Kelsey is determined to play Cupid when she spots an opportunity between the bus driver and a friendly neighbour.
Over in Cambodia, Abs and Comfort help with a difficult birth, and Charlie's suspicions are confirmed when he phones Sam to check up on Mike's background. Duffy is upset that he went behind her back, but things with Mike are not entirely what they seem.
After all becomes clear, Charlie reveals his feelings for Maggie to Duffy - unaware that, back in Holby, Maggie's relationship with Somnang has taken an unexpected direction.
Nathan is continuing to worry about his future and becomes distressed when he cuts himself. Selena convinces him to take a blood test and he is glad to have her on his side, but what will his results say?
Harry turns detective when a woman is brought in following a suspected overdose. Events lead him to suspect her GP of acting inappropriately.
Meanwhile,Ellen is on a mission to convert the others to her health kick. An aggravated Kelsey decides a practical joke is the best way to get back at her, but her actions end up having unexpected consequences for Alice.
New paramedics Dixie and Cyd arrive this week and Josh is unimpressed by their laid-back attitude. When Dixie criticises Josh's management, he decides to break the two of them up.
Selena and Nathan are back together, but she wants to keep it from her colleagues. Nathan tries to undermine Harry by offering him a position which he would share with Selena. This plan backfires when it brings the friends closer together, which makes Nathan jealous.
Meanwhile, a new no-smoking policy on hospital premises for staff puts Kelsey in a bad mood. She cheers up when Alice has an idea for a staff game. Elsewhere, the rota for the paramedics has been changed behind Josh's back so that Dixie and Cyd are back in a team together. Josh is unimpressed by the effort to undermine him and partners Cyd with himself. When Sean hurts his hand whilst helping and needs to go to hospital, Josh sees this as a perfect opportunity for Sean and Comfort to patch things up. Comfort realises she has made a huge mistake and rushes to catch him before he leaves.
Ellen has a brainwave to draw the public's attention to the closure of Holby ED, as the hospital drama continues.
She ropes in Kelsey and Alice and they all jump into the City's water fountain in white t-shirts, causing a media frenzy. They are interviewed by a local reporter (played by Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills).
However, the stunt results in an unexpected consequence for Ellen...
Meanwhile, Harry decides to express an interest in the position at St James. With the Trust insisting that if he accepts the job he mustn't resist the closure of Holby ED, he has to decide where his loyalties lie.

A homeless woman called Jackie (Quirke) is admitted to the ED. However, she walks out, despite being told that she has gangrene in her foot and will lose it if she leaves. Jackie returns to the streets and goes to an internet café when, suddenly, a car crashes into it at high speed. Jackie and a young man are trapped in the rubble and Maggie, Charlie and Josh are faced with an agonising decision – whether to amputate Jackie's leg at the scene or risk both patients dying.
Selena is due to appear on television to speak to the Holby MP. Nathan tells her to ask the MP why the current Emergency Department should remain open when they could have a bigger, better ED at St James's. However, his plan is foiled when Selena is quarantined when a patient called Martin - played by guest star Joe McGann - is admitted to the hospital with radiation burns and Harry takes her place on the show
Holby MP Steven attends the opening of the new leisure centre where he becomes involved in a tussle with an angry constituent and accidentally falls down the stairs. Steven is rushed to A&E, where he is treated by Harry, but his condition worsens and he dies.
It's Christmas Eve and tensions are running high on the busiest day of the year at Holby.
Josh is found badly injured in the back of an ambulance. The outcome looks bleak and, although the team battle to save him, his life is left hanging in the balance.

Meanwhile, new Army consultant Lt Col Andrea Petersen arrives and quickly riles Selena by being rude to an overweight patient having a heart attack. Later, Andrea tells Dixie that she's keen to do a shift with the paramedics.
Elsewhere, Nadia persuades Guppy to give a patient a suppository for her. Andrea is angry when she finds him carrying out a nurse's procedure and Kelsey is made to do it instead.
Kelsey takes it upon herself to tell the whole department about Cyd catching Greg and Andrea in the ambulance together. Embarrased about the whole situation, Greg tells Andrea that they should keep quiet about their relationship.
Jeff and Dixie arrive at a farm where the farmer has discovered an unexploded WWII bomb. They head into the field to find three badly injured children and realise they need a doctor - leaving Cyd and Greg to bring Andrea to the scene.
A reporter who was taking photos in a nearby churchyard when the bomb went off is admitted to the hospital and asks Kelsey to persuade Nathan to let him report on the aftermath of the bomb.
But when Derek realises that the reporter plans to ditch Kelsey for Nadia, he encourages Kelsey to find a way of getting Nadia out of the picture...
Sam, Alice, Guppy, Kelsey and other staff members attempt various fundraising schemes for Comic Relief, much to Nathan's annoyance and he bans any further fundraising. Angus Deayton is at the hospital to have a splinter removed from his finger.
Sam blackmails him into helping them with an auction for Comic Relief. Nathan then changes his mind after speaking to a former nurse at the hospital and supports the staff's attempts to raise money
Greg is still trying to get back together with Cyd but she is unimpressed.
Elsewhere, Nadia shows off her Kylie concert tickets and Kelsey is desperate to go. However, Nadia invites Abs instead. He says he's too busy working, so she determines to get his shift changed.
Mystery man Stitch turns up at a casino where Nathan is losing a lot of money and drinking heavily. When Stitch spots a croupier at the blackjack table running a 'top-hatting' scam with a shifty looking man he drags her outside and orders her to end the scam.
Later, the croupier meets the shady character in the underground car park, and just as Stitch goes into the car park to check on her, the man slashes her across the face. Stitch spots Nathan close by and demands his help.
Nathan is impressed with Stitches handiwork and learns that he's a consultant.
At the hospital, tension mounts when Stitch tries to take over as Selena tends to the croupier.
He pressures Selena and Guppy to treat what he thinks is a tracheal bronchial injury but Selena thinks it's something else. And when the power fails Selena is unable to prove that she's right.
That night, Stitch tells Selena he's looking forward to working with her - as he leaves the hospital with a sexy nurse...

When Tom learns that his old friend Reg doesn't have long to live, he feels obliged to honour his friend's wish - to let him die with dignity. Nadia leaves Tom alone with Reg as she heads up to Stitch's office.
Tess arrives in Resus to find that Tom has tampered with Reg's life-support equipment and leaves Guppy in charge while she goes for help. Tess bursts in to Stitch's office - and as they leave for Resus, Nadia crawls out from under the desk.
When the medics fail to save Reg, Tess demands to know where Nadia was and she confesses that she was with Stitch in his office - but he denies they were together.
Meanwhile, Dixie struggles with her feelings for Cyd, when Cyd asks for time off to go camping with Greg. And Selena discovers she's pregnant - but is the baby Harry's or Nathan's?

When Matt arrives at the hospital with mild injuries, Tess stitches him up and sends him on his way. But when he's rushed back in with a brain injury and dies, Steve makes a shock revelation

Adam has his first day at work as clinical lead. Eight new junior doctors start work and Adam tries to get the team to bond. The eagerness of some of the new juniors causes problems. Adam and one of the juniors called Heather try and help a woman who has been injured at a local former deserted shopping centre. Mr Tweedle who owns the complex thinks the place is empty and detonates a bomb to collapse the place.
The ED prepares for the casualties from the explosion pushing the new juniors to their limits.
The juniors start their first shift following Heather's death. Adam leaves them in Zoe's care as he tries to deal with the aftermath of Heather's death. As the juniors struggle to deal with Heather's death they end up each being counseled by Ben.

Ruth and Jay decide to take the next step in their relationship. Zoe believes that she might have missed her chance with Jordan. Jay issues Ruth with an ultimatum. After Ruth forgets to take the pill she is worried she could be pregnant. The F2's are fed up with the way Adam is managing them but is he is able to impress them at the end of the day.
Ruth discovers that she is pregnant and decides to take a pill to terminate her pregnancy. Ruth manages to impress Sarah during surgery on an injured child. Ruth has to decide whether to take the pill or risk loosing her career. Jordan's condition continues to get better but it looks like he wont be able to continue working as a doctor. Zoe is confronted by Adam after she neglects her duties to go see Jordan. Alistair calls out the paramedic team again in the hope of seeing Polly.
Jay gives Ruth a necklace on her birthday. Sarah tries to warn Ruth away from Jay and threatens to not recommend her for the surgical training post if she continues to see him. Ruth suffers haemorrhage after a confrontation with Jay. Adam doesn't want the F2's treating patients on their own but after a situation occurs Adam has to watch them cope. Adam sets a date for his and Jessica's wedding.
Ruth is shocked to have to be treated by her work colleagues after being rushed into casualty. Tess is sworn to secrecy by her about the abortion pill she has taken. When she starts to feel better, Ruth admits to Jay that she was carrying their baby. After talking to Sarah, Ruth realises she has t make a choice between Jay and her career. Polly tries to tell Alistair that they can be nothing more than friends. Zoe is shocked by what she finds out about her new boyfriend. After dumping him she discovers that he has taken a memory stick with patients information on which he uses to try and blackmail into her taking him back.
Adam and Henry aren't happy when Zoe is forced to admit she has lost patients information. Zoe tries to reassure them she will get it back though. A mysterious man asks for money and cigarettes in the hospital.
Jordan returns to work but in an administrative role. Jordan steps into help Lenny and sparks fly. When there is an incident at a local pub involving a box of fireworks it means it is going to be a long night for the staff. Jeff is attacked on his first call out as a solo rapid responder.
Malcolm faces the loss of his home and business after being injured. Yuki tries to help but Malcolm ends up taking things into his own hands. A bank robbery in the area doesn't go to plan. The F2s learn that one of them will win a Junior Academic Fellowship Award which will lead to a lucrative position. Adam warns them they still need to work as a team. Jordan wants a more hands-on role in the ED again but Adam wont agree to the idea. An old face shows at the hospital.

May is upset after he wants somebody more qualified than her to look after Sarah. Ruth finally finds the courage to tell Jay how she feels about him following Harry's funeral.

After more pupils are reported with the same symptoms, head teacher Mrs Haines realises she has a serious problem on her hands. When Simone is brought back into the ED after falling down a flight of stairs, Kirsty believes that she could have deeper psychological issues. Her mother isn't happy with the diagnosis though and complains to Jordan about it.

The girl called Maya believes that she sees angels and that Charlie is their instrument on Earth. Her condition ends up perplexing all of the ED team. Zoe ends up taking control of the case and is forced to act quickly to save Maya's life after she blacks out again. Scarlett doubts her abilities to be a good nurse and she finds her resolve being tested during a difficult shift at work.
Major Sam Nicholls shows up at the ED for her new job on secondment. She is a day early and wants to join a paramedic crew and get a feel for hospital. Sam though soon has to rely on all her army training after an aggressive driver with a grudge rams the ambulance off the road. Noel wants to improve his security after a clashing with an angry patient.
Desperate for a fix, Annie makes contact with Linda, who steals some Valium to help her deal with her withdrawal symptoms. Linda is attacked by Annie's violent pimp, Damon as she leaves her house. After Damon confronts Annie she hits him with a wine bottle and they both end up in the hospital. Damon and Annie are later discharged, Linda is shocked to find out that they've returned to Annie's house together and she risks Tess's anger to go and help her. Dylan is surprised to meet new recruit Sam and it soon becomes clear there is some history between them.
After 16-year-old Jamal is released from prison after serving a sentence for a fatal stabbing, his victim's sister Ketzia decides to get even with him and ends up inadvertently hurting Jamal's young brother. The violence increases when Jamal's family retaliates and Ketzia's mother, hospital volunteer Rosa, is attacked. Jeff and Dixie think that elderly patient Malc is using their ambulance as a taxi service until Lloyd manages to get to the bottom of the mystery.
Dixie is not pleased after she is forced to take a call during her break, especially when it looks like it's a hoax. She ends up telling Louise that it's not safe for them to work without any breaks. Louise ends up taking the emergency call for a shooting but Dixie refuses to go as she's on a break. As the victims are brought into the hospital, Dixie is shocked to learn that her decision could have cost a life.
Caitlin and David are traveling to the coast for a romantic weekend full of memories. After David’s serious illness gets much worse, they find themselves at the hospital. Ruth and Jay attempt to help Caitlin let go and make the most of the time they have left together. Dylan and Sam manage to put their differences aside to diagnose a mystery condition.
Ruth's medical condition gives her reason to think again about her mental health medication. Jay believes that she should come off the lithium but Ruth is scared that she could suffer a mental health relapse. After Jordan suggests that she come off the lithium, Ruth is not happy with Jay for interfering. Dixie is fed up following the events which led to the shooting and Jeff offers her some advice.
Ruth and Jay’s relationship is going better than ever but after a patient says he is damaged, it ends up striking a chord with Ruth and some old insecurities begin to resurface. After talking to the patient’s mother, Ruth ends things with Jay. Linda’s former adversary Damon is back working at the hospital. He works out that she lied to him about Evie’s parentage and makes plans to kidnap his baby. Frank discovers some potential fire hazards in the department which ends up leading to trouble.
With the fire alarm being declared faulty and both the staff and patients tback into the ED, Lenny and fire officer Frank manage to escape a fire in the basement and alert everyone else. Jordan attempts to arrange an evacuation and Dylan and Zoe end up rushing the hurt Frank into resus for help. Ruth is confronted by Jay demanding to know why she’s dumped him. As they argue they have no clue about the fire raging around them. Zoe and Dylan end up becoming trapped in resus following an explosion.
After the fire which has caused havoc in the hospital, the brand new, updated ED opens it's doors for the first time. Jordan and Charlie decide that it is going to be a prep day and that they’ll only treat minor cases. When a huge traffic accident occurs close to the hospital they soon find their plans changing and things get much worse after a gas pipe explodes and a cloud of poisonous gas engulfs the town.
Following his heroics during the Silverton Explosion the previous day, Tom formally joins the team at the ED and his first case soon turns into a mystery when a family caught up in the explosion return to the ED with mysterious injuries, but when a young son from the family is then kidnapped, Big Mac turns into an unlikely hero. Dylan accuses Sam of meddling with a patient's home life, and Jordan's feathers are ruffled by an attractive young DCI.
When Lloyd insists on helping a patient he ends up inadvertently putting her in greater danger. Linda finds her life being turned upside down when her drug addict sister and children show up at the hospital.
Linda finds herself facing a problem after her errant sister fails to return for her children. Dylan ends up meeting his match with an acerbic alcoholic.
Linda finds it hard be accepted by her sister’s children. A patient nurses a grudge against Sam.
Sam ends up throwing herself into her work in an effort distract herself from her problems. Lloyd ends up jumping to some conclusions.
Paramedic Rossy starts working at the hospital and he enjoys works alone and he's getting to all the shouts quicker than Jeff and Dixie. Jeff likes the fact that Rossy’s willing to go into potentially dangerous situations to get the job done but Dixie thinks he could be too good to be true. Tara is preparing for a special meal with her boyfriend but her younger sister Gemma is less than thrilled about the idea of them getting married. Her erratic behaviour ends up seeing her falling off a roadbridge while in a dazed state.
Britney goes to the hospital after head-butting a girl at her foster home. After Linda tries to reason with her, the girl runs off. After falling in with a crowd a bad teenagers, they attempt to teach Linda a lesson by texting her to say that they’ve kidnapped Britney Linda ends up realising that wants to care for her niece and nephew after all. Sam is is ordered by Jordan keep her head down after a complaint is made to the GMC. Sam is soon back to her old ways though after an encounter with a pompous parent and consultant Hugh Blakeney.
Stevie finds himself being drawn into the Farmead Crew by his half-brother Kris, despite the positive influence of his grandmother in his life. In an effort to prove his loyalty to the gang, Stevie is persuaded by leader Anton to shoot at a rival drug dealer to keep him away from their patch. Things don't go to plan and a small boy is caught in the crossfire. Stevie is brutally punished by the gang for messing up and the gang members show up at the hospital attracting the attention of Superintendent Yvonne Rippon.
Following the shooting which has injured a young boy, Stevie’s girlfriend Jade is shocked to learn that the gun used has been hidden in her wardrobe by Stevie. Stevie learns that Anton is becoming paranoid about him confessing to the police. Jade ends up being lured to a lock-up garage where she is violently assaulted by the Farmead Crew. Stevie ends up admitting to her that he was the shooter after she is taken to the hospital. Jordan and Tess have to decide whether to break patient confidentiality and tell Yvonne about Jade’s attack.
Concerned about the consequences of the bungled shooting and Jade’s violent assault at the hands of the gang, Stevie and Jade are determined to leave. Lloyd and Scarlett attempt to get them to change their minds but they’re adamant, until Jade’s condition gets worse and she’s taken back into the ED. After Yvonne learns the truth about Jade’s assault, she is furious that Jordan and Tess failed to disclose the information.
Following an allegation against Sam by ex patient Keith Parr, a GMC official shows up to talk to Sam’s colleagues. Zoe and Scarlett have to answer questions but Dylan goes out of his way to try to avoid being quizzed. In an effort to distract herself, Sam tends to a cantankerous old soldier who softens after he discovers that she was an army medic.
Jordan's upcoming date with Yvonne has to be cancelled after a former ED patient collapses in prison after being arrested for assaulting Lloyd. The pair's relationship is threatened as it becomes apparent that one of them may be held accountable for the man being left in a cell. Linda and Zoe enjoy a girls' night out and run into a teenager who needs help.
As David and Amanda are out walking their dogs the ground gives way and they become trapped in an underground cave system. Sam has to combat her fear of the dark to treat them. Dylan shows up to help as David admits that he has been too scared to ask Amanda out. Dylan and Sam start to argue about cowardice in their marriage. Amanda and David’s conditions get worse and Sam and Dylan have try and put aside their differences to save them.
Alicia is back at the hospital after having collapsed at school and Tom is determined to get to the bottom of her symptoms. Linda thinks that Alicia’s problems are psychological and that she has developed an unhealthy fixation on Tom. Rosemary decides to take action against her nuisance neighbours by setting her house on fire, but is then shocked to wake up at the ED to find her neighbour’s son Connor has rescued her. When Connor is implicated in starting the fire, Rosemary has to decide whether or not to own up to her actions.
Tensions increase as Sam gets nervous about her GMC hearing. Lenny ends up making a pass at Linda. Lloyd and Scarlett’s fiery relationship causes problems at work.
It is judgement day for Sam as she has to face a fitness practice hearing at the GMC after restraining Keith Parr, the relative of a patient. Her past could come back to haunt her after former colleague Corporal Dean steps up to give evidence.
Dixie and Jeff bring nine-year-old Luke into the hospital with a suspected head injury. After he passes away, Dixie believes that there are suspicious circumstances and calls the police. Jeff is angry as he knows the boy’s father and is convinced that he had nothing to do with his son’s death. Dylan believes that Sam wants to get back together with him. Zoe realises that Sam actually wants to serve him with divorce papers though and attempts to convince Sam to finally tell Dylan the truth.
A fed up Dylan is finding it really hard to work alongside Sam, but when they are forced to liaise over a disabled patient and his over-protective daughter, they end up reaching an uneasy truce to get to the bottom of the case, causing Sam makes an impulsive decision after the tension becomes too much for her.
Lloyd becomes very possessive of Scarlett, irritating her and affecting his work. Lenny receives a tempting job offer from London and has to decide where his future lies.
After a school roof collapses, Tom ends up being reunited with a troubled teenage girl, who he has previously recommended for counselling. The girl’s jealous boyfriend claims that she doesn’t want Tom treating her, so Jordan ends up taking him off the case for his own safety, but Tom ends up refusing to stop treating her. Linda believes that she’s making progress with Joe and Britney and that they have begun to behave like a real family. After she organises a shopping and pizza trip, Joe is too ill to go and Britney feels angry and threatened by Linda’s increasingly close relationship with her little brother.
Clive comes into the ED with some serious injuries, but he lies to his family about how he got them. The mystery increases after a strange woman claiming to be Clive’s wife shows up at his bedside. Charlie works out that Clive has been harassed by some loan sharks. Linda has no choice but to bring a suspended Britney into work with her. After Lenny finds out that Britney has arranged to meet somebody she’s been talking to in a chatroom, he chases her out of the ED and she ends up getting into a car with the stranger. Scarlett’s first meeting with Lloyd’s family doesn’t go the way that it was hoped for after she turns down his mum’s dinner.
Lenny and Linda begin to look for Britney after she gets into the car with a mysterious man. Dylan diagnoses a mini stroke due to sickle-cell anaemia, for a man rushed in after being involved in a fight.
