The scene opens with two Correctional Officers driving Curt Seaver, a disabled serial killer to the doctor’s for a visit. He gets out of the wheelchair and starts to attack the officers. He kills them and then takes off in the van. Meanwhile at H.E.A.T., Luke says that he is sorry for lying to Jimmy about the fact that he has a father who is of high ranking. Jimmy tells that it is alright, but tells that he wants him to be honest from now on. Annie comes in and tells the team that Seaver escaped from prison on a routine doctor visit. She tells that Seaver was an English professor that became a serial killer for young brunette girls. The officers thought that Seaver couldn’t walk because of a back injury, but they were mistaken. Annie tells that they have to determine if Seaver is going to kill again.

Annie and Jimmy visit the prison and take a look at Seaver’s cell. Because there was no roommate, Seaver had plenty of time to exercise his back to health. They find a box full of love letters from a woman. Later, Annie visits Mason Boyle to ask about Seaver. He tells that he will only speak to her if she will give a letter from him to his daughter, Sissy. He tells that he doesn’t want anyone to read the letter, but trusts Annie that she will be good to keep it secret. Mason tells that Seaver did ask him about a good escape route. He tells that he told him that he needed to take the 249 Highway. Meanwhile, Seaver kills a man and takes his van. Back at H.E.A.T., Luke is feeling awkward with Daisy after their “interlude” and tries to go up to her. She brushes him off and Luke carries the box of love letters that were written to Seaver. She tells him to read the letters of women in Houston. A man comes into headquarters and Marco introduces him to Annie as Ed Castwick, a local writer who has been writing a book on Seaver. Castwick tells that Seaver will hide away unless he is tempted to kill. He tells that it is because Seaver’s mother tried to kill him for having “original sin” before she committed suicide. Castwick gives Annie the book and walks away.
Seaver is driving the stolen van that he killed for and sees a brunette woman on the side of the road standing next to a meter. He turns the corner and approaches her, offering her change for the meter. Later, the same woman, now bloodied, comes crawling into an office building. The receptionist screams and calls for help. Meanwhile, Seaver drives into a residential neighborhood. He has scratches and the aftermath of pepper spray. He sees a house and pulls into the garage and goes inside. Later at the hospital, Annie meets with the victim, Ruth Marler. She is the first girl to survive the attacks. She is still in shock and Ruth tells that all she remembers is him offering change. She tells that he was driving a burgundy van with a business sign on the side. She tells that he started stabbing her and that is when she fought back. She tells that he tried to run off, but he fell. Meanwhile, Seaver is still in the house hiding out and turns on the television. He sees a news report telling that Seaver, a serial killer is on the loose. Annie and her team find the house where he is staying, but Seaver is gone. Annie sees that there is a footprint. Seaver ran into the woods.

Jimmy and Annie go into the woods knowing that Seaver couldn’t have ran off too far because of his bad legs. Annie tells Jimmy to go easy on Luke, but he won’t do it. He tells that Luke shouldn’t have lied about his posh life style. Annie sees a dead body in the woods without any jacket or boots. Annie judges that he is going west. Meanwhile, Seaver meets a hunter named Daniel. He tells that he injured his leg. Daniel tells that he has a truck and a cell phone. Annie and her team see two footprints and tire tracks. It is clear that Seaver tricked someone into his lies. Daniel drives Seaver to his home and Daniel quotes Hemmingway. Daniel’s wife calls the police on the cell phone and Seaver puts a gun to Daniel and tells him to tell that everything is fine. Later, Annie and her team find Daniel and his wife tied up. Daniel tells that he is alive because he likes Hemmingway’s “Old Man and the Sea”. He tells that Seaver stole weapons and left.
Later, Annie and Luke look over the evidence they have on Seaver so far. They wonder where Seaver was going before attacking Ruth. Annie and Luke discover that he was heading for a fan in South Houston. She is Bible-Thumping brunette woman named Gwen, just Seaver’s ideal victim. They look into her and find that she is really Tammy Keyes, a prostitute. Annie and her team show up at Tammy’s home and she tells that she took some photos and posed for a John. She tells that the John was Ed Castwick. Marco and Daisy go to the P.O. Box office and find a murdered employee. They realize that Seaver is going for his number one fan. Meanwhile at Castwick’s home, Seaver shows up and tells that Castwick is the reason why Gwen stopped writing him. Seaver beats up Castwick and starts to read the biography that he wrote on him. He realizes that Gwen is not real and that Castwick has been writing them himself. Castwick tells that he was only trying to get into Seaver’s mind. Seaver puts a knife up to Castwick’s girlfriend’s neck. Annie and her team bust in and Luke gets Castwick and his girlfriend out of there.

The garage door breaks open and Seaver has Castwick’s SUV. The team fires on the car, but miss Seaver. Annie jumps onto the car and shoots out a tire. She falls off the car onto the sidewalk. The car Seaver is driving spins off the road and Seaver gets out and runs. Annie shoots Seaver in the leg. Seaver reaches for something and Annie shoots and kills him. Back at the jail, Annie talks to Mason Boyle again and tells that she didn’t give the letter to Sissy because it contained things that he shouldn’t ever tell Sissy and that he needs to tell her that just because her father is in jail, doesn’t mean that she will too. Annie hands Boyle a drawing that Sissy made for him and he is happy. As Annie leaves, Boyle takes out a picture of Annie and looks at it.
