Episode discussion for: 01x01 | A Stitch in Time (May 27, 2012)

It's got Rachel Nichols in so bigyay to that.
They didn't give her red hair so is a to that - maybe she'll have to dye it in a future ep (fingers crossed and all that).

But as for the ep:

So in the future, big corporations have taken over the government (boo), democracy has gone out the window (boo). These bunch of Orangies think this is wrong (yay), want to instigate a change (yay), by killing all the corporation head cheese (yay cos they're all bad people, right), which they do by blowing up a building (wtf) and killing 10,000s of innocents (bf-boo to that). But their motives - bring back democracy - are good, right ?! So we should root for them, right ?!

(am reminded of the Season 3 Episode 1 of Millenium where (spoilers) (iirc) a group's way of protecting a girl was to bring down a plane load of innocents to give the impression that a single girl died in the crash - horrific thing to do, perps should be punished, but you can understand the reasoning behind their actions.)

Rachel is a cop, employed by the evil corporations, so she's part of the anti-democracy system, so she's the bad guy gal, right ?!

Now they all go back to 2012.

The Orangists, who are all, like, "big corporation taking over the government is hella-bad", but instead of using these 60 some years to peaceably create a movement to inform and enlighten people of what series of actions will lead to the end of democracy (blah blah blah), instead of doing that, which given the 60 year time scale, that's MORE THAN ENOUGH time to stop the takeover from happening, instead of doing that they're all like "let's be Mob Bosses" - so they've gone from mass-murderers on the side of right, to complete baddies. ?!

If the above doesn't make no sense, then it reflects my slight ( ) confusion as to who are the baddies and who are the goodies - always important to know. )

The confusion over who is good or bad serves this show well, making it far more intriguing and truthful than it would be if good and evil were more clear cut. It will be very interesting to see how the characters develop over time.

It's about time we had another good SCI FI show. Keep up the good work!

I really liked the first episode, thought it showed a lot of potential and kept it very intriguing ....

which probably means it will get cancelled after the first season :/

I agree, zwixxx. My first reaction was, "Oh, okay, these dudes killed the heads of some mega-corporations. So they're heroes, right? Oh wait, they're not?".

The first episode was okay. Not great. I just seemed to be trying to hard to cram too much material into 1 hour. The premise is decent, but the bad guys are too simplistic. I also found it hard to accept that no one performed a follow up background check on Rachel.

Oh well, maybe the show will get better as it goes.

I also was a bit annoyed that they haven't run a single check or anything to see if she really is who she says she is.

But the show looks promising.

Despite lazy writing and skin of the teeth avoidance of answering tricky questions I found this interesting enough to make me want to watch it and see where it goes.
The production values are pretty good. It would be a shame to see this disappear like so many other promising shows, scoff in particular, because the writers can't be bothered to write intelligently.
Come on guys. Up your game and this could be special.
I certainly want it to have legs.

It is promising and I agree with those who say that the story has it's flaws especially for no background check of Rachel. But overall, the show is interesting and I welcome the confusion about good/bad guys, it will be interesting to see how the characters evolve.

I love the episode ending as I didn't see that coming. I can't wait for Episode 2

Anyone know what tune is played at the end of this episode just before the flash back/forward. refrain is " for the strong this is heaven on earth" cant find it by searching the lyrics. thank in advance for anyone who can help.

hehe i can relate to how you are a sceptick to if it gets canned early, but it doesnt air on FUX (FOX) so it has a better chanse to survive

yes they did check up her credentials but the computer guy hacked the sys so she got some...

It definitely has potential. At least the Canadian shows are fresh...unlike the re-hashed garbage from the U.S. (Dallas? 'nuff said).
