In the Light - Recap

The scene opens with Annie giving Auggie his cup of coffee and tells that she has been promoted to coffee run. Auggie tells that his coffee is cold and Annie tells that she had to deliver 10 cups. Auggie tells that they are friends but Annie tells that she doesn’t want to get fired for not delivering to higher-ups first. Annie leaves and almost gets ran over by a man running through the office. He runs into Joan’s office and tells that a ship carrying weapons is arriving in America soon and that Hasaan Waleed, a renowned arms dealer is involved. Joan jumps into action and talks about what they have to do. Annie gets assigned to going after Christopher McCauley and to track him down and ask for his help. When Annie asks Auggie about McCauley, he tells that he is a former deep-cover intelligence agent that has extra information on the East African Intelligence but no agent has been able to get him since his nervous break down.

Henry Wilcox, Jay Wilcox’s father, comes into the office and Auggie tells that Henry used to run Langley and that they are naming a division after him. He calls Henry the evil prince of darkness and gets kicked in the shin by Annie as a warning that Jay is right behind him. He apologizes and walks away. Jay asks Annie if she would like to go out for a drink sometime and Annie thinks that he is asking her on a date. He tells that it is just drinks and Annie tells that she needs to go and Jay tells her to enjoy the ride. Annie is driving to McCauley’s home and she gets a flat tire. She gets out and sees that there are tire spikes in the yard. Dogs run out and forces Annie on the hood of the car. McCauley comes out and Annie tells who she is and that they need his help he tells her to go back and she tells that she has a flat. McCauley doesn’t care. Jay walks up to Joan and tells that Hasaan Waleed is possibly going to bring in the weapons himself and that they need to do everything to catch him or they would have let him escape. Annie is changing her tire on her car and she is not happy about it. She is about to leave but she pauses. Annie gives the dogs snacks to subdue them and knocks on the door. There is no answer. Annie walks around back and finds McCauley in a creek, fly fishing. Annie takes off her shoes and steps in. She tells that they need his help. He says that he won’t help. He is struggling to tie the knot and Annie takes it and does it with no problem. He asks where she learned that. When she asks why he won’t he tells her to ask Henry Wilcox. Annie is driving back to Langley and she reminisces back 2 years ago in Sri Lanka with her mystery man, who to everyone else is Ben Mercer, and he is teaching her how to tie a knot for fly fishing.

In Khartoum, Sudan, the man from the boat walks in and finds Ben Mercer is there. He asks where Hasaan Waleed is. They fight and Ben kills him. At a restaurant Auggie and Annie are having drinks and she tells that she needs to speak to Henry Wilcox. She walks up to Jay and Henry and tells Jay that she will take him up on his offer. Henry introduces himself and he tells that she is disgusted by him. He tells that everyone is. Annie tells that no one likes to walk through the mud and Henry tells that everyone is in the mud. Later, Annie is looking through McCauley’s file and sees that he met a woman in Khartoum, Sudan named Vanessa Sinclair and the file says that they worked together. But she was killed in action. Auggie walks up to Annie and she asks how Auggie feels about what they do. She tells that she read the file, and based on what Henry told her, she might have something to get McCauley to go with her. She asks Auggie that she wants to know how dirty she will become. Annie visits McCauley again and this time she has her bracelet that Ben and she have and tells that she wants to talk to him about Vanessa Sinclair. He walks in and Annie tells that she knows that she loved her and that she knows how he feels. McCauley tells that he loved her and Annie tells that Hasaan Waleed is coming to the United States and that McCauley can see him get the justice he deserves. He agrees. Joan walks into Arthur’s office and tells that Annie got McCauley and that he has some demands. He tells that he wants to work with Annie and Arthur tells that Jay should go too. Joan also tells that he is requesting $250,000 for his contact in New York and Arthur tells for him to haggle with $100,000 because they are in recession. But of course, Joan already thought of that and everything is set in place. A secretary comes in and tells Henry Wilcox wants to speak to him. Henry tells that Arthur needs to turn Hasaan again and not get the FBI involved. He tells that there are some stories that should not be re-opened.

Annie and Jay look at the money and Auggie tells that every pill is marked and traceable. In New York, Annie asks McCauley if he could tell who the contact is. He doesn’t tell. McCauley tells that Jay’s father deserves to be in jail and tells that he is going. Annie and Jay try to go with and he tells them to stay. Annie has recorded the area while they were talking to see where the contact could be. She tells Jay that he has a lot to go for and that his father is an interesting guy. He asks if she has been reading his file and she tells that it was circled around the female operatives. McCauley comes back and he still has the case. He tells that 5 years was too long and that he doesn’t trust him. He tells that he needs to go to the bathroom. Jay tells Langley that they are going back and Annie feels that McCauley was too calm. Jay checks the briefcase and it is empty. They run in and he is gone. Jay calls Joan and tells that either ran with the money or that his contact took the money and McCauley is keeping the information for himself. They find out that it is the owner of the restaurant and they go over and find that he is hiding a lot more than the money. Guns are found in a secret façade. They walk up to the owner and tell him to give the information he told McCauley and the money is his. Joan tells that they have the FBI ready to go and Arthur tells that they are going to do the take down but with the FBI. Arthur tells that he cleared it. Jay tells that their orders are to return to Langley and Annie tells that she is going to Brooklyn to stop McCauley what he is about to do.

The ops team arrives at the docks and Annie and Jay arrive at the shipyard. They find McCauley and she tells that he doesn’t have to do this and that the FBI is coming and that justice will be given. McCauley tells that jail is not the place where he is going. He tells that Hasaan worked for the CIA and that he turned. He tells that they want to try to turn him again and she tells that he can’t do it. He doesn’t and there is a shot fired. Hasaan falls down and he is dead. Arthur wants to know who fired the shot. It was Ben Mercer. He runs and stops when he sees Annie. Jay turns around and sees him and starts chasing after him. But he is too fast and Ben gets away. Back at the office, Henry Wilcox is getting his recognition and Auggie tells that Jay is just like his father and Annie defends him. Joan tells that she knew that the weapons were theirs and Arthur tells that Hasaan was an asset and that he turned on them and built a terror cell. Henry Wilcox told him to do it alone because it would have destroyed his career and he tells that he wanted to see Hassan behind bars. Joan tells that Ben Mercer did not. In a hotel room, Ben looks at a picture of Annie on his phone and Annie is walking with her umbrella.
