Episode Notes
A preair version of this episode leaked onto the internet almost two weeks before it was due to air.

Episode Quotes
Gideon: One guy tortures while the other records it. Master and servant.
Hotch: Jacksonville PD's been looking for this killer for years. How long's it gonna take 'em to find a team?

Gideon: Mark Twain wrote: "Of all the animals, man is the only one that is cruel. He is the only one that inflicts pain for the pleasure of doing it."

Gideon: And it sends a message to the police.
Detective Portillo: What's that?
Gideon: Look what we can do. Can't stop us.

Detective Portillo: So, we're looking for two sick minds who complete each other.
Reid: It's kind of like the perfect storm - once these deviant personalities collide, they're deadly and unstoppable.

Morgan: Penelope, you know I appreciate you doing this?
Garcia: Thank you, Sugar but right now, even that doesn't feel good.

Gideon: That's all you got?
Garcia: Yeah.
Gideon: Garcia?
Garcia: Yes?
Gideon: You do great work, keep it up.
Garcia: Oh, thank you. Sir, thank you.

Mike Kroger: His ex-con buddies were always at the shop, it's bad for business.
Hotch: You're an ex-con.
Mike Kroger: I was innocent.
Hotch: Yeah, they all are.

Morgan: (after being knocked to the ground) Big mistake!

Hotch: (arriving with backup as Morgan handcuffs Tony Canardo) What, you couldn't wait?
Morgan: I didn't want him to get away.

Hotch: Philosopher, Khalil Gibran wrote: "Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars."

Episode Goofs
In the preair version, when Gideon asks Garcia to look up Joey Davin's ex-cellmate, she says it's Tony Canardo but on the computer screen, his surname is shown as 'Candaro'. In the version that was aired, this mistake was corrected and the right surname was shown.

Cultural References
Morgan: Why would they need more trophies, Gideon?
Gideon: Maybe passed along as a gift?
Morgan: Like the Green River Killer?

The Green River Killer, real name Gary Ridgway, is believed to be responsible for around 50 murders in the early 1980s near the Seattle and Tacoma area. The serial killer would pick up female prostitutes or runaways and strangle them. Their bodies would be dumped in and around the Green River in Washington.

Hotch: Like the DC Snipers or the Columbine assassins. Sometimes they've met in childhood. Other times, they can be related like the Hillside Stranglers, Angelo Buono and Kenneth Bianchi. Psychopathic cousins who terrorised women in Los Angeles.

The DC Snipers were John Allen Muhammad (born John Allen Williams) and Lee Boyd Malvo (who posed as Muhammad's son). They were responsible for spree killings in and around Washington, D.C. during October, 2002.

The Columbine assassins were two high school students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. They were responsible for a shooting rampage at Columbine High School on 20th April, 1999.

The Hillside Stranglers, Angelo Buono and Kenneth Bianchi, were responsible for kidnapping, raping, torturing and killing women in the hills above Los Angeles from 1977 to 1978.
