With community leaders in an affluent, predominately white New York suburb fearing the worst, Gideon and the rest of the BAU team arrive to investigate the murders of young African American teenagers who are found beaten and strangled. With little to go on and evidence that continually leads to dead ends, the team must work quickly to determine if the crimes are the result of a racially-charged serial killer before the potential fall-out from the crimes leads to even bigger problems.

| Prentiss: Why would the unsub use a date rape drug to commit a hate crime?
Reid: (after remembering being drugged by Tobias during his own captivity) Maybe he wants to weaken them, so they can't fight back. | Morgan: I was just thinking---I know how hard it is to grow up without a father.
Prentiss: Their father died a hero.
Morgan: Yeah. So did mine. Doesn't make it any easier. | Reid: (in voiceover) The life of the dead is preserved in the memory of the living. ---Cicero | Morgan: Reid, you all right?
Reid: (barely awake) Hmm?
Morgan: I said, are you all right?
Reid: I'm fine. (looks around) Thanks for broadcasting. | Morgan: Reid, listen to me. What you went through out there, nobody expects you to rebound---
Reid: I can still do my job, all right? I'm not going to freak out.
Morgan: You think I don't know that?
(Reid pauses, considering)
Reid: It was the crime scene photos.
Morgan: Crime scene photos?
Reid: Dead girls in the leaves.
Morgan: (not quite understanding) Reid, we've seen worse.
Reid: (softly) I know. (louder) I know we've seen worse, but...for the first time, I know. I look at them...I look at them, and I know. I know what they were thinking, and I know what they were feeling just before...
Morgan: It's called empathy. And it's a good thing.
Reid: (shaking his head) No, it's not. It's got me all messed up---I don't know how to focus, I can't do my job as well...so what do I do?
Morgan: You use it. Let it make you a better profiler. A better person. |
