They can't recast J.R. Ewing, so there are a couple of questions now:

Did they finish shooting some of the upcoming episodes for the new season?

How will the show deal with the passing of Larry Hagman?

If the show is to continue it will need a big character to replace JR. Larry Hagman is Dallas and his passing will effect the show greatly.

The only character I could see helping to fill the void is Abby Ewing from Spin off show Knots Landing. There is no other character in either show's history that comes close to JR apart from Abby.

As far as i have read they had finished 5 or 6 episodes of the new season before he died so that should give them time to rewrite the remaining episodes and do a proper send off for him.

Honestly though i can't see the show making it past the second season without him
