• "Damages" a winning proposition for TV viewers |
If all those brain-dead reality shows have lulled you into believing there really is nothing new under the summer sun, wake up. Here comes FX with yet another series to cement its reputation as today's most dependable and consistent source of thoughtful TV dramas.
You can call "Damages" a legal drama, but that doesn't begin to describe it. In the first two episodes available for review, there isn't a single courtroom scene. It's more like an intricately plotted poker game, filled with suspense, bluffs and cards that change value right before your eyes.
This is a series that demands all of your attention and then rewards you with a story that lingers long after the credits roll. It's the creation of brothers Todd and Glenn Kessler and Daniel Zelman who, among them, hold two master of fine arts degrees and years of acting and playwright experience, all of which paid dividends here.
