Season 11, Episode 1 - Recap

Dancing with the stars kicks off and it is a LIVE show for the season 11 premiere of Dancing with the Stars. With hosts, Tom and Brooke, the stars are Audrina & Patrick, Michael & Chelsie, Kyle & Lacey, Rick & Cheryl, Margaret & Louis, Brandy & Maksim, Bristol & Mark, Kurt & Anna, Florence & Corky, The Situation & Katrina, Jennifer & Derek, and David & Kim. This new selection of dancers and to kick it off is the most talked about in the tabloids and is going to be a stand-up season.

Audrina Patridge from “The Hills” is up first for the night with Tony Dovolani and they want to be the ones to show that they have the talent. Doing the Cha-Cha, Audrina works really hard and Tony tells that they are going to be the first couple. They start dancing to a rendition of “California Girlz” and they are together and have the chemistry. They go to the judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba are introduced and Len tells that they have danced with confidence and Bruno tells that Audrina has what it takes and tells her to hold the performance, and Carrie Ann tells that she needs to work on the delivery. The scores are Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 7 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 19/30.

After the break, Kurt Warner enters the stage and tells that he wanted to dance because the family is a fan of the show. Anna Trebunskaya, Kurt’s partner, meets and Kurt tells that she fit in. He tells that his first moves are not so good and take some getting used to. Dancing the Waltz and dancing to “This Ain’t a Love Song”, they dance with exactness and at the end, Kurt kisses his wife. Bruno tells that he is a graceful quarterback. He tells that there are some technical errors but potential. Carrie Ann tells that she sees it too and there is a connection. Len is not happy with it and it needs grace, movement, and technique. The scores are Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 5 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 19/30.

Next on the floor are Kyle Massey, from “Corey in the House” and Lacey Schwimmer. Kyle tells that he is going to nail it when he starts dancing and Lacey tells that she is ready for the win. She tells that he is young and she asks if he is looking at her boobs and he claims that it is the center point. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, to “My first Kiss” they have the attitude of the dance and what it needs. Kyle gets people on their feet. Carrie Anne tells that Kyle is her first crush of the season. Len tells that he liked it. Bruno tells that Kyle is like an adorable and he is an entertainer. The scores are Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with a 7 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 23/30.

Up next is Rick Fox from the LA Lakers and Cheryl Burke. Cheryl tells that Rick is going to get the handsome vote and Cheryl realizes that he is really tall. He is going to have to work hard. Dancing the waltz and dancing to “Crying”, the height doesn’t seem to be an issue and they dance gracefully. Len tells that Rick’s dancing was elegant and that he did a great job. Bruno tells that he can’t wait to see the quarterback and basketball player. Carrie tells that Rick is hot and that he had grace. The scores are Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with a 7 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 22/30.

Margaret Cho from “Drop Dead Diva” and Louis Van Amstel are up next. When she starts learning the Waltz, she is horrible at it because she is not that talented with dancing. They enter dancing to “We Are the Champions” and it is bad choreography all the way through and comedy thrown in. Bruno asks what the heck what it was and it didn’t work and that they pushed it too hard. Carrie Ann asks how it was on purpose with the getting wrapped up and slipping and Margaret tells that it was. However, Carrie Ann is not a fan. Len tells that it was not a dance to put her comedy in the dance. The scores are Carrie Ann with a 5, Len with a 5 and Bruno with a 5. Total score of 15/30.

Grammy Award winner, Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are next and Brandy thinks that he is the bad boy and Maksim tells that he is trying to be the good boy this season. Brandy tells that the competition means a lot to her. Dancing the waltz, they dance gracefully and get people on their feet. Carrie Ann tells that Brandy is so comfortable with what she is doing on stage and tells that she needs to soften it up a little. Len tells that she can make a good impression and it was fantastic. Bruno tells that is amazing and can’t wait to see more next week. The scores are Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 23/30.

Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas are next and Bristol tells that it is the first time she has done this against what her mother has told her. Mark works with Bristol and she is shy with the dancing. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha to “Momma Told Me Not to Come”, Bristol comes out and in a conservative outfit and then reveals a short skirted red dress. They dance and are in sync and she can really shake it. Len tells it was acceptable, but tells that Bristol needs to loosen up. Bruno tells that she is a good dancer. Carrie Ann tells that she thought Bristol was going to be boring but was wrong. The scores are Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 18/30.

Next are TV Mom, Florence Henderson and Corky Ballas. Florence tells that she could still be hot and sexy and tells that she is different than the Carol Brady that everyone grew to love and proves it when she curses a lot. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha to “Kiss Me Honey” they dance with precision and a little awkwardness. Bruno calls Florence Spunky and tells that there are things to be sorted out. Carrie Ann tells that she enjoyed herself and agrees with Bruno. Len tells that it was great entertainment. The scores are Carrie Anne with a 6, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 18/30.

Michael Bolton and Chelsie Hightower are up and Michael tells that he is a singer and needs to learn how to gain posture. Dancing the waltz, the two show that they have the routine down, except for the posture. Carrie Ann tells that Michael was letting Chelsie lead and tells him to smile more. Len tells that he needs to have posture in dancing. Bruno tells it is hard and he needs to take it easy. The scores are Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 5 and Bruno with a 5. Total score of 16/30.

Mike “The Situation” and Karina Smirnoff are up and they only have 5 days to practice on it. First practice was really hard and he is nervous on it. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha to “Break Your Heart” and with only 5 days to practice, they light up the dance floor. However, Len tells that he thinks that Mike has the guns but not the ammunition. Bruno tells that he has a spark somewhere and only time will tell. Carrie Ann tells that can’t really judge them that well with only 5 days practice. The scores are Carrie Ann with a 5, Len with a 5 and Bruno with a 5. Total score of 15/30.

Next are Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough who get their chance to impress the judges and audience. During the practice, Jennifer breaks down and cries because she was reminded of Patrick when she was on “Dirty Dancing” They come out dancing to “These Arms of Mine”, the same song from “Dirty Dancing” and show their connection. Bruno tells that “Baby” is back and it was beautifully danced. Carrie Ann tells that something special happened and that there was a connection as she bawls her eyes out. Len tells that the dance suited her perfectly. The scores are Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 24/30. The highest score of the night!

The last dancers of the night are David Hasselhoff and Kym Johnson. In Hanover, Germany, Kym meets him and they practice. David is a little off and finds it hard to keep up with Kym. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha to the jazzy hit “Sex Bomb”, there is a lot of chemistry on the dance floor but not a lot of talent. Carrie Ann tells that she tells that he dances with his mouth and that it is entertaining, but needs some work. Len tells that it was entertaining but he needs to up his game. Bruno tells that they love “The Hoff” and there was no timing a “Potpourri of Insanity”. The scores are Carrie Ann with a 5, Len with a 5 and Bruno with a 5. Total Score of 15/30. The dancers have danced and next episode we see who stays and who goes.
