Season 12, Episode 1 - Recap

Season 12 opens up with Kristie Alley & Maksim, Mike Catherwood & Lacey, Chris Jericho & Cheryl, Chelsea Kane & Mark, Sugar Ray Leonard & Anna, Ralph Macchio & Karina, Petra Nemcova & Dmitry, Romeo & Chelsie, Hines Ward & Kym, Kendra Wilkinson & Louis, and Wendy Williams & Tony in the running for the mirrorball trophy.Tom and Brooke are back and they introduce the dancers. The judges are also back for another season Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba are seated as they kick off the show.

Chelsea Kane & Mark Ballas are up first and on the first day, they have an instant connection. Mark and they have a lot of fun getting to know each other. Dancing the Foxtrot, they come out and they are flawless with their movements and get a standing ovation. Len says that the dance was amazing and they did a good job. Bruno says that it was Afterglow and she has natural talent. He says that she just needs to extend a little bit. Carrie Ann says that she sees the flare, but to watch the shoulder and connect it all. Brooke talks to Chelsea and asks how her first dance with a boy was and she says that it was good. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 7 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 21/30.

Wendy Williams & Tony Dovolani are up next and they she says that she is ready for everything that Tony is going to teach. Wendy gets emotional right off and she uses her hair to wipe her tears. Tony says that he won’t let her fail. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, they come out and Wendy shows her personality but is very unenthusiastic in her movements. They go to the judges and Bruno is not happy with her performance because she didn’t show her fire that he knows that she has. Carrie Ann says that she could see the fear and says that she needs to unleash the beast. Len says that he expected more and it was timid. Len says that she has a chance to redeem herself. Brooke talks to Wendy and asks where the emotions come from and Wendy says that she is having fun learning and it is a process. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 5, Len with a 4 and Bruno with a 5. Total score of 14/30.

Hines Ward & Kym Johnson dance next and they kick off their rehearsal and he says they try to get their moves and there are falls and drops. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, they enter and they do a flawless job with their moves. They also get a standing ovation. Carrie Ann says that was the sparklest Cha-Cha that she has seen. Len says that it was clean and crisp and Len says that he was looking at Kym’s bum. Bruno says that it was so light-footed and it was great. Bruno says that his posture needs to work on it and Bruno shows how to move his hips all the way. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 7 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 21/30.

Petra Nemcova & Dmitry Chaplin are up now and Dmitry immediately thinks that she is hot. He asks her if she has had any injuries and Petra says that she was in a 2004 Tsunami and that she broke her pelvis in four different places. However, she recovered. They get off to a good start until March 11, 2011 when they hear of the Tsunami hitting Japan. She says that she can’t focus on dancing. She dedicates the dance to the people who are suffering in Japan. Dancing the Foxtrot, they come out and they give a flawless performance and get a standing ovation. Len says that the whole routine had charm and says that it was well done. Bruno says that there were moments of beauty and says that she has to keep the linking. Carrie Ann thanks her for dedicating the dance and says that she brings her natural dancing out, but says that they need to watch their lifts. Brooke talks to Petra and asks how it feels about her first dance and Petra says that it was fun. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 18/30.

Next are Romeo & Chelsie Hightower to dance and Romeo talks about Romeo’s dad Master P got the lowest scores in the history of “Dancing with the Stars”. Romeo is afraid to show a feminine side and Chelsie pushes him. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, they come out with flawless moves and then Romeo gets lost a little bit. Bruno uses Shakespeare and says that he was flatfooted and lost it a couple of times, but has a lot of possibilities. Carrie Ann says that there was chemistry, but his posture was off. Len says that he has energy, but it was casual and the performance was great, he just needs to work on the technique. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 19/30.

Sugar Ray Leonard & Anna Trebunskaya are next and Anna teaches Sugar Ray, but he is not getting the moves right off. He gets upset with himself, but he is confident. Dancing the Foxtrot, they come out and add some theatrics to it. Sugar Ray is a little stiff at first and then loosens up. Carrie Ann says that he is going to be fan favorite, but says that he needs to work on posture. Len says that it was not good in technique. Bruno asks if could call him Sugar and says that he says that there was no technique in it but tells that he will be able to redeem himself. Brooke asks how he overcame his doubts and he says that he has a great partner and he is going to do good. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 5 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 17/30.

Kendra Wilkinson & Louis Van Amstel are up next and she shows off her moves and she has personality. She is used to “stripper dancing” and is not used to the choreography. She says that she has trained hard. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, they start off and they move with no problem at all. Len says that his interest was help through the entire dance and says that she needs to straiten her legs and says that besides that it was great. Bruno says that she has a lot of spunk. Carrie Ann says that she was amazing and says that she will work on the straitening of the legs. Brooke talks to Kendra and she says that she gets nervous with the audience. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 18/30.

Ralph Macchio & Karina Smirnoff are up and Ralph enters with Karina is in the crane pose from the “Karate Kid”. He says for her not to let the young face full her; the rest of him is old. They start their rehearsals and he is trying to get the moves down. Dancing the Foxtrot, they enter and he is a natural dancer. Bruno says that he’s got the feeling that he is a hit and did a fantastic routine. Carrie Ann says that was truly gorgeous and they are someone to watch out for. Len says that he loved it and was the best Foxtrot of the night. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 24/30. The highest score of the night!

Chris Jericho & Cheryl Burke are up and they get down to rehearsals and she tells that he needs to make sure that he stands up strait. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, they enter and Chris shows that he has a lot of personality and dance moves. Carrie Ann says that it was like a Chippendale’s Cha-Cha. She says that there wasn’t a lot of content, but it was great. Len says that his hips didn’t seem to work and says that he did well. Bruno says that it was a little unsteady, but really entertaining. Brooke asks if there are similaries and he says that there are a lot of things. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 19/30.

Mike Catherwood & Lacey Schwimmer are up next and they get into the routine, but Mike is having trouble getting the moves down. However, he builds his confidence. Dancing the Foxtrot, they start off good, but Mike is a little stiff with his movements. Len says that he moved, but there was little dance quality and says that he needs to step it up. Bruno says that it was uncoordinated and says that he will get better. Carrie Ann says that he was a little jerky, but says good effort. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 5, Len with a 4 and Bruno with a 4. Total score of 13/30.

Last up are Kristie Alley & Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Kristie says that she was happy to meet Maksim and he asks if she watches the show and she says that she is a “Dancing with the Stars” hoe. They get their dance moves down and she says that she wants to have fun with it. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, they enter and Kristie shows her sexy side with her great moves for someone her age. Bruno says that he likes what he sees and he says that they are just scratching at the surface and says that it was the best of the night. Carrie Ann says that she worked it and it was great. Len says that it was fun and cheeky and it made him feel good. Brooke talks to Maxsim and ask how impressed with her and he says that he is very. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with a 7 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 23/30. They all get a free pass tonight until next time.
