Season 12, Episode 17 - Recap
The Semi-Finals are underway and Kirstie Alley & Maksim, Chelsea Kane & Mark, Ralph Macchio & Karina, and Hines Ward & Kym are in it to win the mirror ball trophy. Tom and Brooke bring out the dancers and tell that they are going to have two rounds of dances and then a “Winner Takes All Cha-Cha” after that.
First up in round one is Ralph & Karina. They get into rehearsals and Ralph says that his knee is a little better and that they are going to have to push it. Dancing the Argentine Tango, they come out and are nice in their movements. They go to the judges and Len says that it lacked emotion, but he liked the set up and they did a good job. Bruno says that something was stirring, but he was stern and slightly detached. Carrie Ann says that it looks like he is not in so much pain, but she agrees with Bruno with the emotion. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with a 9 and Bruno with an 8 Total score of 25/30.
Next up is Kirstie & Maks. They get into rehearsals and they get mad at each other because Kirstie is not doing the moves correctly. Kirstie yells back. Dancing the Viennese Waltz, they come out and are amazing with their movements. They go to the judges and Bruno says that it was great and says well done. Carrie Ann says that she is impressed and that she transformed the stage. Len says that it was lovely and beautiful. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with a 9 and Bruno with a 9. Total score of 27/30.
Chelsea & Mark are next. They get into the rehearsal room and Mark is pushing Chelsea even harder since it is the semi-finals. Dancing the Argentine Tango, they come out and are perfect in every movement. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that she is a great dancer, but the dance was not up to par and that it wasn’t as strong. Len says that her legs lacked the movement. However, it was clean and precise. Bruno says that they played it well. Bruno starts to caress Len to show them how well they did. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with a 9 and Bruno with a 10. Total score of 28/30.
Last up for round one is Hines & Kym. In rehearsals, they want to pull out all the stops and Hines tries to tell her that she shouldn’t be doing lifts that she has never done. During a lift, Hines drops her on her head and then sits on her. This causes her to go to the hospital and it looks like they are not going to be able to do their dance. Dancing the Argentine Tango, they come out and Hines helps her through the dance and there is no misstep at all. They go to the judges and Hines starts to cry. Len says that he was there and it was great and that was a tango. Bruno says that every emotion was out there and it was like good sex, you never want it to end. Carrie Ann is emotional and says that she is happy that she is alright and that routine was great and the connection was great too. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 10, Len with a 10 and Bruno with a 10. Total score of 30/30.
Ralph & Karina dance next to start Round Two. They show a clip of Ralph talking about his life and how he was a working actor when he was young and now is centered around his wife and two kids. Dancing the Salsa, they show that they want to win it. They go to the judges and Len says that he is committed, but it was too wild for him. Bruno says that he was too rough with his #!&@#&. He meant Pussycat. Carrie Ann says that oddly, she liked it. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8 Len with a 7 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 23/30. This gives them a combined score of 48/60.
Kirstie & Maks are next and they show a clip of Kirstie talking about her life and how she was a young cocaine addict that recovered. She became an actress and than gained weight. This made her the “Fat Actress”. Dancing the Paso Doble, they come out and explode on stage with their great dancing. They go to the judges and Bruno says that she was like a volcano. Carrie Ann says that was fantastic and is the Queen of the Paso Doble. Len says that she has danced fabulous. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with a 9 and Bruno with a 9. Total score of 27/30. This gives them a combined score of 54/60.
Chelsea & Mark are next and they show a clip of Chelsea talking about her life and how she started in Arizona and worked her way to the top of the popularity. Dancing the Rumba, they come out and are great in their movement again. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that it was full range of emotion. Len says that it was great and tonight she has fulfilled her potential. Bruno says that it was beautiful and romantic. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 10, Len with a 10 and Bruno with a 10. Total score of 30/30. This gives them a combined score of 58/60.
Hines & Kym are up next and a clip is show of Hines talking about his life and how he was raised by his mother and how he made a career in Football. Dancing the Salsa, they come out
They go to the judges and Len says that he was steaming and it was a joyful dance. Bruno says that he is beautiful and it was great to watch. Carrie Ann says that she has a great feeling evey time he dances. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 10, Len with a 10 and Bruno with a 10. Total score of 30/30. This gives them a combined score of 60/60. A Perfect Score!
The “Winner Takes All Cha-Cha” is underway and they talk about the rules of it. Two pairs of couples will compete and then get 15 extra points if they win. The first two couples to dance are Hines & Kym and Ralph & Karina. After the dance, they go over to the judges and Len says that he did a great job on the Cha-Cha and Len tells Ralph he did a great job. Bruno says that Ralph raised the game. Carrie Ann says that tonight he was good, but Hine’s hips were in it to win it. The winner of the round is Hines & Kym.
The next couples to dance off are Chelsea & Mark and Kirstie & Maks. After the dance, they go over to the judges and Bruno says that Chelsea was clean and Kirstie was good. Carrie Ann says that this is a hard one. Len says that it was a clean cut and it is a real challenge. The winner of the round is Chelsea & Mark. Hines & Kym and Chelsea & Mark are going to dance off for the final heat.
The instance dance is to “Just Dance” by Lady Gaga. They do the coin flip and Chelsea & Mark win it and choose to dance second. Hines and Kym do their instance Cha-Cha and it is full of hip action on their part. Chelsea & Mark come out and they show that they are in it to win it. They go to the judges and Len says that this is two couples that have both great styles. Bruno agrees and says that it is hard. Carrie Ann says that both couples have proven themselves. The winner of the “Winner Takes All Cha-Cha” is Chelsea & Mark. That is 15 extra points for them making them the leaders of tonight’s dancing.
