Season 13, Episode 1 - Recap

Season 13 of “Dancing With The Stars” kicks off with Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke-Charvet welcome everyone to another season. Ron Artest & Peta Murgatroyd, Rob Kardashian & Cheryl Burke, Kristin Cavallari & Mark Ballas, Chynna Phillips & Tony Dovolani, Nancy Grace & Tristan MacManus, David Arquette & Kym Johnson, Elisabetta Canalis & Val Chmerkovskiy, Hope Solo & Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Carson Kressley & Anna Trebunskaya, J.R. Martinez & Karina Smirnoff, Ricki Lake & Derek Hough, and Chaz Bono & Lacy Schwimmer come to the stage to the new Mega-Sized ballroom.

Ron Artest & Peta are first up to dance. Ron recently changed his name to Meta World Peace. They get down to rehearsing and they are going to try to get the dance down. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, they come out and do a good job with the dancing. They go to the judges and Len Goodman says that it lacked Cha-Cha content and the footwork was horrible. Bruno Tonioli says that there was power and flare, but because of his size, the technique was a little off. Carrie Ann Inaba says that it was kind of sexy, but it was wrong in the technique area. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 5, Len with a 4 and Bruno with a 5. Total score of 14/30.

Rob Kardashian & Cheryl are next up to dance. In rehearsals, Cheryl tells Rob to focus and gets him to do what they need to do. Dancing the Viennese Waltz, they come out and they do a good job with it. They go to the judges and Bruno says that Rob was tense and didn’t feel any musicality at all. Carrie Ann says that there is potential, but he has to have it flow. Len says that it was alright and says that he was thinking too much. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 5 and Bruno with a 5. Total score of 16/30.

Kristin Cavallari & Mark are up next and they get into the rehearsals and Mark pushes Kristin to perform with more sexiness. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, they come out and they do a good job. They go to the judges Carrie Ann says that she is excited and says that she shines with the dancing and it is a good Cha-Cha. Len says that it was bright and lively and says that it was a little shy. Bruno says that he loves a bad girl and says that she can give it. However, her turns need to be fixed. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 19/30.

Chynna Phillips & Tony go out next and in rehearsals they stumble to get the moves down and she kicks Tony in the groin by accident. Dancing the Viennese Waltz, they come out and they do a great job. They go to the judges and Len says that it wasn’t the best, but it was close. Bruno says that it was great and the musicality was great. He says that the talent is there. Carrie Ann says that she is very graceful and can’t wait until next week. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with a 7 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 22/30.

Nancy Grace & Tristan MacManus are next and in rehearsals, Tristan tries to tell her to move her feet on the third step, but she thinks he said the “turd” step because of Tristan’s Irish accent. They get the moves down and get ready. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, they come out and they do a good job. They go to the judges and Bruno says that she has the moves, but she doesn’t believe in herself. Carrie Ann says that she has spunk, but has to remember the choreography. Len says that there has to be a balance. It was a little underwhelming to him. The judges argue a bit. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 5, Len with a 5 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 16/30.

David Arquette & Kym are next and they get into rehearsals. Kym says that she can’t believe he is there and he says that he wants to add dancing. Dancing the Viennese Walz, they come out and they do a good job with an almost mess-up at the end. Carrie Ann says that he got a little lost in the dance, but it was fun. He just needs to work on it. Len says that he came strait out in the dance and liked it. He says that he is a dancer though. Bruno says that it went from one character to another and says that each dance is a scene in the movie. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 18/30.

Elisabetta Canalis & Val are next and they get into rehearsals and they have issues with the language barrier, but they manage to get the moves down and get ready. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, they come out and they do a good job. They go to the judges and Len says that he didn’t like the start of it and then it got rippled and it was weak. Bruno says that she was good in the bed, but it fell apart when she was alone. Carrie Ann says that the part when she was alone, she wasn’t that good at all. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 5, Len with a 5 and Bruno with a 5. Total score of 15/30.

Hope Solo and Maksim dance next and in rehearsals, Maksim tries his skills as a goalie and in the dance room, they learn the steps and Hope is afraid that she is too muscular to be sexy. Dancing the Viennese Waltz, they come out and do a great job. They go to the judges and Bruno says that she has a bright future because her attack is great. He says that she needs to work on the arm movements. Carrie Ann says that the connection was great. One thing is about muscleing things. Len says that the posture and movement was good, just a little bit more feminine in the movements. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 7 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 21/30.

Carson Kressley & Anna Trebunskaya are next. They get into rehearsing and Carson says that he is excited that Anna is going to get him dancing. He says that he is going to bring a flirtatious tone to the dance. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, they come out and do a great job with a lot of energy. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that was her favorite dance of the night. However, technically speaking, it was a little off. Len says that it was entertaining, but lacked technique. Bruno says that he was amazing and it was fun. However, he needs to work a little bit more. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 5 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 17/30.

J.R. Martinez & Karina Smirnoff are next and they get into rehearsals where they try to work with each other, but J.R. has some issues trying to learn the steps. Dancing the Viennese Waltz, they come out and they do a great job with it. They go to the judges and Len says that it was great and says that it was the best performance of the night. Bruno says that he did really well in it and says that he has to watch his lines and says that it was still good. Carrie Ann says that there was emotional quality and it was great. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 8, Len with a 7 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 22/30.

Ricki Lake and Derek are up next and they get into the rehearsals. Ricki says that she is going fun for her to lose weight just like Kirsty Alley. Dancing the Viennese Waltz, they come out and they do a great job. They go to the judges and Bruno says that there was great chemistry and it was wonderful. Carrie Ann says that they were part of one person and says that it was very nice. Len says that her footwork was off, but it was elegant and fluid. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 20/30.

Last up for the evening, Chaz Bono and Lacey take to the dance floor and in rehearsals, they try to get the steps and Chaz says that he doesn’t want to show that he is not good. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, they come out and they are good. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that he can dance. She says that she wants to see more. Len says that he really came out to enjoy himself and it was good footwork. Bruno says that he had no clue that he was so cuddly and cute. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 5 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 17/30. That is it for the dances and tomorrow night are the results.
