Season 13, Episode 9 - Recap

It is 80’s week and Rob Kardashian & Cheryl, Nancy Grace & Tristan, David Arquette & Kym, Hope Solo & Maksim, Carson Kressley & Anna, J.R. Martinez & Karina, Ricki Lake & Derek, and Chaz Bono & Lacy are dancing to the songs that are favorites. They open the night with a tribute to the 80’s with “Eternal Flame” and “Walk Like and Egyptian” by the Bangles. They kick off the show and welcome the stars.

First up is Hope & Maks. They get in rehearsals and Maks tells Hope that he is going to miss him. They focus and Hope has a problem with the performing part, but Maks doesn’t believe that she can’t act. Dancing the Tango, they come out and do a good job. They go to the judges and Len says that they did a good job, but it was a little weak and willowy. He liked the attack. Bruno says that she got the act down and it was great. Carrie Ann says that Hope was strong, but there were a little awkward moment. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 24/30.

Next up is Carson & Anna. They get into rehearsals and Carson says that he is scared of doing a bad dance and wants to have a fun time, but make it good. He says that he is not athletic and says that it is on to dance well. Dancing the Jive, they come out and have fun on stage. They go to the judges and Bruno says that it was loopier then a Looney Tune and says that it was very fun. Carrie Ann says that it was fun, but it is Week 5 and she didn’t see much technique anywhere. Len says that he likes him and says that wasn’t good enough. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 19/30.

Nancy & Tristan are next. They get into rehearsals and she tells that she was a cheerleader back in the 80’s and they have a bad communication. They manage. Dancing the Rumba, they come out and it is alright. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that she wanted to see real passion and doesn’t feel a connection to the dance. Len says that it was simple, but effective. Overall it was good. Bruno says that he liked it and says that it was right on. Some links need to be more fluid. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 7 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 22/30.

The Bangles come out and sing “Manic Monday” with dancers in the foreground. They show that they still have what it takes.

J.R. & Karina are next. They get into rehearsals and Karina says that she is going to kick his butt and they are going to step it up. J.R. says that he forgets the steps, but he is not getting the moves. He goes to the Conga room and they get the steps. Dancing the Samba, they come out and they do a great job. They go to the judges and Len says that he didn’t think that he would have done that and says that was amazing. Bruno says that there was a lot of hip action and says that it was like a volcano. Carrie Ann says that really amazing. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with a 9 and Bruno with a 10. Total score of 28/30.

Rob & Cheryl are next. They get into rehearsals and Cheryl says that Rob is going to have to be sexy and Romeo comes in to show how to be sexy. He says that he is going to be sexy. Dancing the Rumba, they come out and do a good job. They go to the judges and Bruno says that for the first time, he is using Cheryl as a partner. Carrie Ann says that it was strong and sexy and it was great. Len says that the dance is hard to do and he pulled it off. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 25/30.

Chaz & Lacey are next. They get to the rehearsal room and Lacey tells Chaz that he is going to have fun. Lacey brings in Buddy Schwimmer, Lacey’s dad. Chaz gets out of his shell and had a little fun. Dancing the Samba, they come out and have fun with it. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that it is good to see him move on and it was great. Len says that it was gallant effort and says that it was a little less technique. Bruno says that he is no J.R., but it was really good. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 7 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 21/30.

David & Kym are next. They get into rehearsals and David is having a lot easier time learning the routine. Kym likes that David is getting more involved. He wants to show that he can dance. Dancing the Tango, they come out and they are great. They go to the judges and Len says that had a great 80’s feel and that it was fantastic. Bruno says that it was a Tango with a yell. It was really good. Carrie Ann says that he is improving. However, musicality needs to be more. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with a 9 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 25/30.

Last up is Ricki & Derek. They go to rehearsals and Derek says that they are going to have fun with it and they feel the pressure that they have to perform perfectly. John Waters comes by and says that they are going to knock them dead this week. Dancing the Foxtrot, they come out and they do a good job. They go to the judges and Bruno says that Ricki was a little of rhythm with it and says that it can’t always be perfect. Carrie Ann says that they work great as a team. Len says that he is a funky guy, but it is not the best dance, but not the worst. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 24/30. That is it for the dances. Now for America to vote.
