Season 14, Episode 12 - Recap

With the elimination of Gladys Knight & Tristian, Maria Menounos & Derek Hough, Donald Driver & Peta Murgatroyd, Roshon Fegan & Chelsie Hightower, Melissa Gilbert & Maksim Chmerkovskiy, William Levy & Cheryl Burke, Katherine Jenkins & Mark Ballas and Jaleel White & Kym Johnson take the ballroom for Classical Night. Joshua Bell, a classical violinist opens the show. Jackie Evancho and Vittorio Grigolo are performing tonight as well.

Katherine Jenkins & Mark are first up. They get into the rehearsals and Katherine says that she is passionate about this music and says that she is in her comfort zone. However, she tries to get classical with the dance. Dancing the Rumba, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that was a classic Rumba and says that it was totally classical and had style. Bruno says that she is the embodiment of beauty and says that he wanted to get his juices going, but says that it was great. Carrie Ann says that her placement and passion were not the same. She could have generated more heat. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with a 9 and Bruno with a 9. Total score of 27/30.

Next up is Melissa Gilbert & Maks. In rehearsals, Maks’ foot has an assist in his ankle. He has Val fill in for him during the rehearsals. They get the routine down. Dancing the Argentine Tango, Maks is there and they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that it was extremely brave to dance to Mozart and says that it was like the Cyclone at Coney Island. He says that it wasn’t clean. Carrie Ann says that it was wrong and says that quality was wrong. Len says that she did a good job in one part, but it is what it is. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 7 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 21/30.

Up next are William Levy & Cheryl. They get into rehearsals and he is struggling on getting the moves and also his ankle injury from two weeks ago comes back. He rests it for a while. Dancing the Viennese Waltz, they come out and dance. Jackie Evancho offers the music for it. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that is true content and true dancing. She says that he brings the romance to life. Len says that he wasn’t transported to Vienna, but he was in Austria. He says that he was great. Bruno says that he captured the purity of the dance and he put his heart and soul into this. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with a 9 and Bruno with a 9. Total score of 27/30.

Roshon Fegan & Chelsie are next. They get into rehearsals Roshon says that they have to give it their all. Chelsie says that they need to see him as the talented dancer he is. Roshon gets some tips from Val. He gets the concept. Dancing the Argentine Tango, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that the transitions were great, but his legs were a little awkward, but it was great. Bruno says that he loved the lifts, but his legs were a bit wobbly and has to be grounded. Carrie Ann gives Roshon a hug and says that he did a fantastic performance. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 25/30.

Next up is Donald Driver & Peta. They get into rehearsals Peta tells him to be more competitive. Donald wants to get the first perfect score. He gets into the routine and Peta tells him that he needs more technique. She pushes him more. Dancing the Viennese Waltz, they come out and dance. Vittorio Grigolo adds the song. They go to the judges and Bruno says that he has the passion of dance and says that he loved it. Carrie Ann says that she didn’t see the lift in the dance and says that she loves the regal quality. Len says that once he got started, it was great. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with a 9 and Bruno with a 9. Total score of 27/30.

Next up is Maria Menounos & Derek. They get into the rehearsals and Derek says that they need to get in a romantic setting with the dance. She says that this week, she feels that she has to work harder. Derek says that he wants her to shine. Dancing the Paso Doble, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that was amazing and says that she was on fire. Len says that was sharp and crisp. He says that he loved it. Bruno says that she is the Queen of the Night and says that the way she felt the tension and they were spellbinding. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 10, Len with a 10 and Bruno with a 10. Total score of 30/30. First perfect score of the competition!

Last up for the individual dances is Jaleel White & Kym. They get into the rehearsals and Kym gives him a Koala Bear. He says that he has to deliver tonight and be the leading man. They get into their routine and Jaleel doesn’t question anything. Dancing the Viennese Waltz, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that he had a floaty feel, but there was no footwork in it. Bruno says that content wise, it was great, but he didn’t execute it as perfect it as he wanted. Carrie Ann says that he is still back in the game, but be aware. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 24/30.

Jackie Evancho sings again and she shows that she has the talent of a multi-platinum singer as the pros offer a dance in the foreground.

Team Tango consists of Katherine & Mark, Maria & Derek, Jaleel & Kym, and Roshon & Chelsie and Team Paso consists of: William & Cheryl, Donald & Peta, Melissa & Maks. Team Tango are up first. They get into rehearsals and they have their tempers flare on and they say that they have to win. They come out and dance. Afterward, Len says that Maria and Roshon were the stand out couples and it was the mix of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Bruno says that the creativity was outstanding. Overall it was an excellent thing. Carrie Ann says that all of them were amazing. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 10, Len with an 8 and Bruno with a 9. Total score of 27/30 for Team Tango.

Team Paso are next up and they get into rehearsals. They try to get everything organized and they are happy that they have 2 less people in their group. They get their routines down and Donald has an issue with the capes. William doesn’t want to rely on their sexiness. They come out and dance. Afterward, Bruno says that was amazing and they are superheros. Carrie Ann says that was amazing and so much fun. Len says that they undressed to impress and says that was great. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with an 8 and Bruno with a 9. Total score of 26/30 for Team Paso. That is it for the dances!
