Week 2: Jive or Quickstep - Recap

With the elimination of Pamela Anderson & Tristan MacManus, Joey Fatone & Kym Johnson, Shawn Johnson & Derek Hough, Sabrina Bryan & Louis Van Amstel, Helio Castroneves & Chelsie Hightower, Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani, Apolo Anton Ohno & Karina Smirnoff, Drew Lachey & Anna Trebunskaya, Bristol Palin & Mark Ballas, Gilles Marini & Peta Murgatroyd, Kelly Monaco & Val Chmerkovskiy, Kirstie Alley & Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Emmitt Smith & Cheryl Burke are there to fight for their spot as they go into another week of dancing.

Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani are first up for the night. They get into rehearsals and Tony says that the competition is tough. Melissa says that she is nervous when she went for the Jive. She is ready to show her stuff. Dancing the Jive, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that she set the bar high and says that he loved it. Bruno says that was one of the fastest Jives and says that she needs to watch her footing. Carrie Ann says that she is happy to see that and says that it was great choreography. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with an 8 and Bruno with a 7.5. Total score of 23.5/30.

Bristol Palin & Mark Ballas are next. They get into rehearsals and Mark asks if she enjoyed it last week. She says that she did. They are going to dance to a Country song and Bristol takes Mark to the shooting range. They work on their routine and Mark says that she needs to step it up. Dancing the Quick Step, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that was different and says that it wasn’t good enough. Carrie Ann says that she has come so far, but says that she couldn’t break the hold. Len says that the technique of the dance was a bit low. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 18/30.

Helio Castroneves & Chelsie Hightower are up next. They get into rehearsal and Chelsie is determined to get him to have fun. Helio takes her to the race track. They understand each other now. Dancing the Jive, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that he has so much charm and says that he was right on it. Len says that it is style with a smile and that it was occasionally too much in the knees. Overall it was fabulous. Bruno says that it was sweet and nice. He says that the dance was still fun. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with a 7.5 and Bruno with a 7.5. Total score of 23/30.

Apolo Anton Ohno & Karina Smirnoff come out next. They get into rehearsals and Apolo says that he is inspired again. They learn the frame and work on it. Apolo tries to take charge, but finds it hard. Dancing the Quick Step, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that was a Gold Medal and says that it was well done. Bruno says that the variations were great. Carrie Ann says that he is in it and says that he was driving the dance. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8.5, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 24.5/30.

Up next are Sabrina Bryan & Louis Van Amstel. They get into rehearsals and Sabrina understands that she was overly excited. Louis says that he can’t hold back. However, in a move, Louis trips and drops her. He feels bad and he asks her if they are going to keep the move. Dancing the Quick Step, they come out and dance. They keep the move at the end and do it without any injury. They go to the judges and Bruno says that a great dance and says that she was a dazzler. Carrie Ann says that was ridiculous and says that it was great. Len says that this season is great and says that the upper body was great and the lower was even better. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with an 8.5 and Bruno with an 8.5. Total score of 26/30.

Next are Kirstie Alley & Maksim Chmerkovskiy. They get into rehearsals and she is having fun. Maks ties her knees together to be able to the move perfect. Maks says that he trains Kirstie like she is 20. Dancing the Jive, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that she was working it no matter what. She says that she was on it, but wants to master the moves as a couple. Len says that it was neat and precise and he thought that it was an improvement. Bruno says that she played it creatively. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 7 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 21/30.

Emmitt Smith & Cheryl Burke are next. They get into rehearsals and Emmitt says that he is not going to be intimidated. They get their routine down. Dancing the Quick Step, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that it was cool and smooth, but he needed to show more of the technique. Bruno says that the energy was good, but the timing was a bit off. Carrie Ann says that he didn’t do the best with it and says that he needs to bring it a little more. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7.5, Len with a 7.5 and Bruno with a 7.5. Total score of 22.5/30.

Drew Lachey & Anna Trebunskaya are up next. They get into rehearsals and he is determined to not be in the Bottom Two. They want to give their best and want to show their loose side. Dancing the Jive, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that it was aggressive like it needed to be and says that he needs to watch his feet though. Carrie Ann says that it was a wild dance and says that it was good. Len says that he is not going to be in the Bottom Two this week. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7.5, Len with a 7.5 and Bruno with a 7.5. Total score of 22.5/30.

Next up are Joey Fatone & Kym Johnson. They get into rehearsals and they discuss that everyone is good in this competition and they have to remember to step it up every week. They get their routine down. Dancing the Quick Step, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that he nailed the performance with his upper body, but his lower part wasn’t perfect. Len says that it was not good in ways of technique, but he loved it. Bruno says that he is entertainment and says that technique was not there. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7.5, Len with a 7.5 and Bruno with a 7.5. Total score of 22.5/30.

Shawn Johnson & Derek Hough are next. They get into rehearsals and they say that they need to push up. They get to know the moves and she wants to put a little bit of gymnastics in there. Dancing the Jive, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that it was just enough of a Jive, but says that he wanted more. Bruno says that was vibrant and great. Carrie Ann says that they are the all-star sweethearts and says that it was good. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8.5, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8.5. Total score of 25/30.

Kelly Monaco & Val Chmerkovskiy are up next. They get into rehearsal and they have a lot of bouncing. She brings in fake boobs to know how hard it is to not make them bounch. Dancing the Quick Step, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno tells her to watch the hold and not loose the frame. Carrie Ann says that she needs to extend her lines a bit. Len says that when they were out of hold, they were great. Overall it was good. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7.5, Len with a 7 and Bruno with a 7.5. Total score of 22/30.

Gilles Marini & Peta Murgatroyd are last for the night. They get to rehearsals. Gilles is a little hurt after pulling his hamstring and meets with the doctor. He says that he really shouldn’t dance. Dancing the Jive, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that they were amazing. Len says that it was fabulous. Bruno says that it was amazing. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8.5, Len with an 8.5 and Bruno with an 8.5. Total score of 25.5/30. That is it for the performances!
