Week 3: Iconic dances - Recap

After the elimination of Joey Fatone & Kym Johnson, it is up to Shawn Johnson & Derek Hough, Sabrina Bryan & Louis Van Amstel, Helio Castroneves & Chelsie Hightower, Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani, Apolo Anton Ohno & Karina Smirnoff, Drew Lachey & Anna Trebunskaya, Bristol Palin & Mark Ballas, Gilles Marini & Peta Murgatroyd, Kelly Monaco & Val Chmerkovskiy, Kirstie Alley & Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Emmitt Smith & Cheryl Burke to make it to the end and win it all. Tonight the celebrities are showing their creativity with a dance.

First up are Drew Lachey & Anna Trebunskaya. They get into rehearsals and they want to make the number into a concert. They get to learning Drew’s creative artistic vision. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that he got the balance perfectly. Overall it was great. Bruno says that it was great. Carrie Ann says that the direction was really great and tight. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 24/30.

Gilles Marini & Peta Murgatroyd are up next. They get into rehearsals and they meet with the producer. He says that out of respect, he takes the dance from someone who is not in the cast now. He says that he wants to fly in the dance. Dancing the Tango, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that was strong and dominate and says that there were a couple of wobbles though. Carrie Ann says that he is great at the drama. However, they were out of sync a little. Len says that the footwork could’ve been cleaner, but overall it was great. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8.5, Len with an 8.5 and Bruno with an 8.5. Total score of 25.5/30.

Up next are Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani. They get into rehearsals and they talk about how they have a few ideas. Melissa goes hard and pushes it too hard and almost injures her. Dancing the Samba, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that was fantastic and it was stellar. Len says that he is talking about and says that it was great all the way through. Bruno says that the choreography was amazing. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with a 9 and Bruno with a 9. Total score of 27/30.

Apolo Anton Ohno & Karina Smirnoff are up next. They get into rehearsal and he takes over the artistic part and has some ideas. Dancing the Foxtrot, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that there was great musicality and would have liked a little more, but all in all, it was great. Bruno says that it was classic, but sometimes he doesn’t follow his lines. Carrie Ann says that his will be memorable and it was amazing. She says that it was fluid. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8.5. Total score of 25.5/30.

Next are Kelly Monaco & Val Chmerkovskiy. She has picked his brother’s dance that he did a while ago and they want to make it better. She has allowed herself to have extra time to practice. Dancing the Paso Doble, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that was a defining performance and he is tingling with plessure. Carrie Ann says that they are the couple to watch and says there is something special with them. Len says that the focus that they had was amazing and it was beautiful. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with a 9 and Bruno with a 9. Total score of 27/30.

Kirstie Alley & Maksim Chmerkovskiy are next. She says that she is doing “Moves Like Jaggar” and wants to have fun. She has a lot of ideas. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that was the most fun and says that was great. Len says that the celebrities should be in charge every week. Bruno says that it was Camp and says that it was so much fun. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 24/30.

Next are Sabrina Bryan & Louis Van Amstel. They get into the rehearsals and she says that wants to do this dance justice and make it work. They work on uniqueness and they don’t want to break any rules. Dancing the Paso Doble, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that it was fun of risks and technique. He says that it was well done. Bruno says that she is such a great dancer. Carrie Ann says that they have seen this before and she didn’t bring anything new. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8.5, Len with an 8.5 and Bruno with an 8.5. Total score of 25.5/30

Emmitt Smith & Cheryl Burke are up. They get into rehearsals they work on Emmitt’s vision. He is going to have fun with this and want to pull out all the stops. Dancing the Paso Doble, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that he got the flavor of it and says that times, his shoulders were up. Carrie Ann says that he is the human torpedo and says that everything was great. Len says that he has presence and says that there should have been a little bit more finesse. They get their score: Carrie Ann with an 8.5, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8.5. Total score of 25/30.

Next up are Helio Castroneves & Chelsie Hightower. They get into rehearsals and he loves being in control of the artistic vision. He has many ideas. Dancing the Quick Step, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that it was so good and says that he is the Quick Step King and says that it was joyful despite getting caught in the dress. Len says that this dance was so good. Bruno says that it was brilliant, but he collapsed with the dress a bit. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8.5, Len with an 8.5 and Bruno with an 8.5. Total score of 25.5/30.

Bristol Palin & Mark Ballas are up next. They get into the rehearsals and Bristol is upset with Mark. She tells him that Mark is not happy to have her as a partner. She walked out. However, they make up. Dancing the Paso Doble, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that she had plenty of attack and says that was her best. Bruno says that she needs to get the aggression out and says that it was good. Carrie Ann says that she needs to work on her expressions. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7.5, Len with a 7.5 and Bruno with a 7.5. Total score of 22.5/30.

Last up for the night are Shawn Johnson & Derek Hough. They get into rehearsals and she says that Derek has to listen to her and she loves it. They want to bring in trampolines. They work on the routine and they are breaking a lot of rules. They are taking a risk. Dancing the Quick Step, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that it was spectacular and says that this is the best dance they have seen. Carrie Ann says that she has happy feet and says that by far it was great. They broke the rules, but it was amazing. Len says that it was incredible, but they have to drop points for breaking the rules. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with an 8 and Bruno with a 9.5. Total score of 26.5/30. Double Elimination tomorrow!
