Week 5: Guilty Pleasures (1) - Recap

With the elimination of Bristol Palin & Mark Ballas, it is “Guilty Pleasures” week and Shawn Johnson & Derek Hough, Sabrina Bryan & Louis Van Amstel, Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani, Apolo Anton Ohno & Karina Smirnoff, Gilles Marini & Peta Murgatroyd, Kelly Monaco & Val Chmerkovskiy, Kirstie Alley & Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Emmitt Smith & Cheryl Burke are ready to show their stuff on the dance floor.

Kelly Monaco & Val Chmerkovskiy are up first and their Guilty Pleasure is “Want You Back” by Cher Lloyd. They get into rehearsals and Val goes into the set of General Hospital. They work hard with the little time they have. Dancing the Samba, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that it was a little unwinded at starts. He says that there was too much gyrating. Bruno says that she is a tease and he loves that. However, the bounce was a little forced. Carrie Ann says that this week, she was uncertain. However, she did a good try. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8.5. Total score of 24.5/30.

Gilles Marini & Peta Murgatroyd are next and their Guilty Pleasure is “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston. They get into rehearsals and they need to try to get to the top of the leaderboard. Dancing the Rumba, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that was masterclass theater and says that every movement was expressed. Best performance. Carrie Ann says that the baby-making can begin and slips out of her chair. She is alright and says that was amazing. Len says that was Oscar worthy, but needed to keep the leg down. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 10, Len with a 9.5 and Bruno with a 10. Total score of 29.5/30.

Up next are Kirstie Alley & Maksim Chmerkovskiy and their Guilty Pleasure is “Mrs. Robinson” by Simon & Garfunkel. They get in rehearsals and they try to find places where they can squeeze further in the competition. They struggle with the steps and Kirstie breaks down. Dancing the Quick Step, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that was her best dance and says that it was elegant, despite the little mistake. Len says that she danced to the maximum. Bruno says that she delivered it despite making the mistake. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8.5, Len with an 8.5 and Bruno with an 8.5. Total score of 25.5/30.

Emmitt Smith & Cheryl Burke are next and their Guilty Pleasure is “Copacabana” by Barry Manilow. They get into rehearsal and Emmitt is liking the moves. Emmitt gets into it. Dancing the Samba, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that was an unstoppable performance. Bruno says that was really great and says that he made the dance look easy. Carrie Ann says that he has the Samba Swagger and says that it was great. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9.5, Len with a 9.5 and Bruno with a 10. Total score of 29/30.

Last for the night is the first team dance for the Freestyle Dance. The story of the dance is Football players and Cheerleaders. They try flips and tricks and it doesn’t go too well with Melissa and Tony bumping heads. In final rehearsals, Melissa’s neck gets pinched and she is sent away in the ambulance. Team “Call Me Maybe” come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that he loved how they did that dance and says that it was fantastic. Bruno says that the entire thing was almost impossible to distinguish the pros and stars. Carrie Ann says that it was fantastic. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9.5, Len with a 10 and Bruno with a 10. Total score of 29.5. That is it for the dances for tonight, tomorrow they continue!
