Season 16, Episode 2 - Recap

Another week of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ kicks off and Kellie Pickler & Derek Hough, Victor Ortiz & Lindsay Arnold, Ingo Rademacher & Kym Johnson, Lisa Vanderpump & Gleb Savchenko, D.L. Hughley & Cheryl Burke, Zendaya Coleman & Val Chmerkovskiy, Sean Lowe & Peta Murgatroyd, Alexandra Raisman & Mark Ballas, Dorothy Hamill & Tristan MacManus, Wynonna Judd & Tony Dovolani, Andy Dick & Sharna Burgess, and Jacoby Jones & Karina Smirnoff are going to have to dance again. This week they have the Jive, Quickstep or Jazz.

First up for the night is Ingo & Kym. They get into rehearsals and she tells him to have the air about him when he walks. Ingo hopes that the judges are going to like it. Dancing the Quickstep, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that he did a great job and says that overall, it was an improvement. Bruno says that was hard choreography, but says that it was great. Carrie Ann says that the frame was the problem. She says that he has a great presence to dance. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 7 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 20/30 with a combined score of 40/60.

Next up is Dorothy & Tristan. They get into rehearsals and Dorothy has a cyst in her ankle and she doesn’t know if her body will allow her to continue. Dancing the Jive, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that was great the problem was that she lost the footing so many times. She needs to relax her shoulders. Carrie Ann says that she has great natural quality movement, but the fear was in her this week. Len says that it didn’t quite deliver this week. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 5, Len with a 5 and Bruno with a 5. Total score of 15/30 with a combined score of 36/60.

Up next is Jacoby & Karina. They get into rehearsals and Jacoby goofs off. Karina has her class of little girls come in to show that it is easy. Dancing Jazz, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that was rocking and it was great. Len says that this was fun and says that he enjoyed it. He says that he wants to see that same energy when he is doing refined dancing. Bruno says that it was watching a headline star. He says that he is a performer. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with a 7 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 23/30 with a combined score of 43/60.

Next is Victor & Lindsay. They get into rehearsals and Victor is struggling with the dance moves. He gets frustrated and Lindsay says that they don’t have time. Dancing the Jive, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that it had energy and fun, but it could have been sharper and cleaner. Bruno says that he goes for it like a runaway train and that means that the control is not there. Carrie Ann says that he worked the room, but says that the footwork was not that good. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 18/30 with a combined score of 36/60.

Up next is Wynonna & Tony. They get into rehearsals and Wynonna’s motivation is not to pee her pants. They work on the routine and Wynonna gets emotional when she doesn’t get it at first. Dancing the Quickstep, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that it started as a Quickstep, but then it dropped. Carrie Ann says that her frame is beautiful, but now they need step it up. Len says that she entertained them, but she never moved from first gear. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 18/30 with a combined score of 36/60.

Next is Zendaya & Val. They get into rehearsals and she struggles a bit with dancing in heels, but is determined. Dancing the Jive, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that she is the whole shebang and says that was fantastic. Len says that she is back next week for sure. Bruno says that her lines are absolutely breathtaking and says that he loved that. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with an 8 and Bruno with a 9. Total score of 26/30 with a combined score of 50/60.

Up next is Andy & Sharna. They get into rehearsals and Andy is picking up with the moves quickly. He gets to put in his creativeness to the dance. Dancing Jazz, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that was fun and says that he is committed. Bruno says that was a Monster Jazz and says that he loved it. Carrie Ann says that he is lucky that Jazz was his category because it was fun. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 20/30 with a combined score of 37/60.

Next is Sean & Peta. They get into rehearsals and the speed of the dance makes it hard for him to grasp. Dancing the Jive, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno tells him to save him. He says that he has the charm of the dance, but it was a little bit more Lindy Hop than Jive. Carrie Ann says that he is a good performer, but he fell out of the music a bit. Len says that he didn’t get it at all and says that there wasn’t enough Jive. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 20/30 with a combined score of 39/60.

Up next is Alexandra & Mark. They get into rehearsals and they are going to step it up. They work on the facial cues. Dancing the Quickstep, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that was the best Quickstep of the night and says that it was great. Len says that her head went so far to the left that it was weird, but it was terrific. Bruno says that she was weightless and says that it was great. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 24/30 with a combined score of 45/60.

Next is Lisa & Gleb. They get into rehearsals and Gleb says that he is going to have to be Russian dictator this week. She tries to hold up physically. Gleb says that she can do well. Dancing the Jive, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that she never really took off with that dance and it wasn’t enough flow to it. However, it was neat and precise. Bruno says that the thing was is that she has to place her movement. Carrie Ann says that she holds herself with refinement, but she needs to let loose. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 18/30 with a combined score of 36/60.

Up next is D.L & Cheryl. They get into rehearsals and D.L says that he doesn’t want to go home. He says that the dance is too much for him, but Cheryl says that it is how it is. They have an argument and eventually they make up. Dancing the Quickstep, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that he can see that he worked hard on that. He still needs to control his frame. Carrie Ann says that this show is hard, but he came back and is on the right track. Len says that tonight he has improved since last week. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 5, Len with a 5 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 16/30 with a combined score of 28/60.

Last up for the night is Kellie & Derek. They get into rehearsals and they work on an interesting routine. Dancing Jazz, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann gives them a standing ovation and says that was “freakin’ amazing”. Len says that was great and says that it was a fire. Bruno says that was modern Jazz in the most effective way. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with an 8 and Bruno with a 9. Total score of 26/30 with a combined score of 47/60.
