Season 16, Episode 3 - Recap

With the withdrawal of Dorothy Hamill & Tristan MacManus, it is down to Kellie Pickler & Derek Hough, Victor Ortiz & Lindsay Arnold, Ingo Rademacher & Kym Johnson, Lisa Vanderpump & Gleb Savchenko, D.L. Hughley & Cheryl Burke, Zendaya Coleman & Val Chmerkovskiy, Sean Lowe & Peta Murgatroyd, Alexandra Raisman & Mark Ballas, Wynonna Judd & Tony Dovolani, Andy Dick & Sharna Burgess, and Jacoby Jones & Karina Smirnoff to show that they can win it. Tonight is Prom Night. The stars have a group dance together.

First up is Alexandra & Mark. They get into rehearsals and Alexandra is a little off with her timing. She doesn’t like having to count the music. She wants to prove that she can do this. Dancing the Viennese Waltz, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that he wasn’t that impressed with her dancing. He tells her April Fools. Bruno says that they were all swept away and says that she moves so well. The frame needs a little work still. Carrie Ann says that her movement is fluid, but she needs to stay in the character more. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 23/30.

Next up is Andy & Sharna. They get into rehearsals and Andy struggles with the technique and he tenses up. She tells him to not yell at her and says that it is not going to be perfect right away. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that timing was a bit off, but it was full on entertainment. Carrie Ann says that the only way to win is to try and it shows that he is trying. Timing was off though. Len says that he is not a great dancer, but what he does is makes him feel good. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 18/30.

Up next is Ingo & Kym. They get into rehearsals and Kym says that they have to be the cool team and Ingo hurts himself a little bit. He powers through it. Dancing the Paso Doble, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that he through the power of the dance, but says that he needs to start his core stronger. Len says that he like the attack of the dance, but could have had stronger posture. Overall it was great. Bruno says that he worked hard and says that he needs to refine a bit. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 7 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 21/30.

Next is Lisa & Gleb. They get into rehearsals and Lisa hopes that they are going to get votes and they get down learning the routine. Dancing the Viennese Waltz, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that she had fluid arms, but says that her posture and footwork need work. Bruno says that it was much better, but she misses passes. Carrie Ann says that they are great together, but it is true that she has to stay in character. She did really good though. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 7 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 21/30.

Up next is Kellie & Derek. They get into rehearsals and she wants to pull this off and gets down to learning the dance. Dancing the Jive, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that says that was crisp and says that she is sharper than a Samarii Sword. Carrie Ann says that was ridiculously amazing. Len says that was great and says that she is officially the Queen of the Prom. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with a 9 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 25/30. The highest score of the night!

Next is Victor & Lindsay. They get into rehearsals and they work on the emotion of the dance and even though Victor didn’t go to Prom, he is going to put everything into this. Dancing Contemporary, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that was breathtaking and says that every moment had meaning and beautiful. Len says that he was surprised and says that the lifts were really good. Bruno says that was unbelievable and says that it was great. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with a 7 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 23/30.

Up next is D.L. & Cheryl. They get into rehearsals and he says that he may be a little rusty, but he is getting back his moves. Dancing Salsa, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that he admires the spirit, but there was no rhythm and it was untidy. Bruno says that he looked like a hip replacement. Carrie Ann says that he is making baby steps and sees the improvement. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 5 and Bruno with a 5. Total score of 16/30.

Next is Jacoby & Karina. They get into rehearsals and Jacoby says that Katrina took his High School. They work on his romantic side. Dancing the Rumba, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that he was smoldering like a volcano and says that it was great. However, work on the foot placement. Carrie Ann says that she is impressed and says that was hot, sensual are artistic. Len says that he is shocked and says that it had everything. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 24/30.

Up next is Wynonna & Tony. They get into rehearsals and Wynonna is going to show them what she has. This dance will allow her to release her inner “tigress”. She is going to give it her all. Dancing the Samba, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that the dance was a whisper and says that she didn’t see it go up. Len says that it had no rhythm or hip action. Bruno says that he was expecting the wild child and says that it was a bit sedated. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 5, Len with a 5 and Bruno with a 5. Total score of 15/30. The lowest score of the night.

Next up is Sean & Peta. They get into rehearsals and Sean needs to work on moves and is very awkward. However, he works hard. He gives Peta a corsage. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that it was a great dance and it is his best dance. Bruno says that he can definitely entertain. He just needs to clean up the footwork. Carrie Ann says that it was great, but Bruno was missing. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 7 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 21/30.

Last up for the night is Zendaya & Val. They get into rehearsals and she has never been to Prom. She has some issues with the spins, but works through it. She is doing this for her grandma. Dancing the Viennese Waltz, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that was enchanting and charming and says that despite a couple of stumbles, it was great. Carrie Ann says that it is great to watch her and says that the emotional connection to the moves is beyond her years. Len says that for him, there was too much dramatics and would of liked more in the hold. However, it was good. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 24/30. That’s it for the performances!
