Season 16, Episode 5 - Recap

With the elimination of Lisa Vanderpump & Gleb Savchenko, it is down to Kellie Pickler & Derek Hough, Victor Ortiz & Lindsay Arnold, Ingo Rademacher & Kym Johnson, D.L. Hughley & Cheryl Burke, Zendaya Coleman & Val Chmerkovskiy, Sean Lowe & Peta Murgatroyd, Alexandra Raisman & Mark Ballas, Andy Dick & Sharna Burgess, and Jacoby Jones & Karina Smirnoff to fight to the end. They start the night off with a group dance and have fun on the stage despite the news of the bombings at the Boston Marathon. Tonight is the Side-By-Side Challenge. This is where they are going to have to dance with a pro couple.

First up for the night is Ingo & Kym. They get into rehearsals and they have Tony & Emma to dance side by side. They get the choreography down and Ingo struggles. Kym tells him that she won’t make him look silly. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that he kept up with the stamina and energy. However, he needs to care about the details. Bruno says that he put so much out there and says that he disguised the errors. Carrie Ann says that the pelvic thrusts were a hit and says that there was no intimidation on his face. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 7 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 21/30.

Next up is Jacoby & Karina. They get into rehearsals and they are dancing with Maksim & Anna. Jacoby says that he wants to go hardcore this week and he is struggling with getting the hips moving right. Dancing the Jive, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that it was great with great timing, but he needed to point his feet. Carrie Ann says that there were a few areas, but he was amazing. Len says that he lights up the place, but he needs to work on the footwork. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with an 8 and Bruno with a 9. Total score of 26/30.

Up next is Victor & Lindsay. They get into rehearsals and they are dancing with Tristan & Emma. They have to push it harder and Victor struggles with the steps. He had a girlfriend that cheated on him and is distracted. However, Tristan & Emma cheer him up. Dancing the Vienneese Waltz, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that was a victory and says that he channeled his emotions well. Len says that it was better than last week and that’s the way to go. Bruno says that it was elegant and says that it was good timing. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 7 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 21/30.

Next up is Alexandra & Mark. They get into rehearsals and they are dancing with Tony & Whitney. Alexandra is a little intimidated, but she is excited to learn from the pros to help her dance better. Dancing the Samba, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that she was great when they danced together, but there were a little mistake when it was just her and Mark. Bruno says that she has very strong technique and has a lovely carefree attitude. Carrie Ann says that she loved to see the “Sex Kitten” side of her and says that she needed to hold on to it more. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with an 8 and Bruno with a 9. Total score of 25/30.

Up next is Sean & Peta. They get into rehearsals and they are going to dance with Tristan & Chelsie. Sean needs to step his game up and Sean copies what Tristan does. He hopes that he has learned enough. Dancing the Quick Step, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that tonight he turned into a Swan and says that it was great. Carrie Ann says that it was great and says that she liked it. Len says that was his best dance so far. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with an 8 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 24/30.

Next up is Kellie & Derek. They get into rehearsals and they are dancing with Henry & Anna. Derek tells Kellie that he is nervous. They work on the routine and he gets frustrated with her. Anna helps Kellie with the technique. Dancing the Foxtrot, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says she loves the side-by-side challenge and says that they all have blossomed. She says that was fabulous and despite the mess up on the turn, it was great. Len says that they put the “oo” in “smooth”. He says that if they continue to dance like that, they will be in the final. Bruno says that it was great and that it was amazing. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with a 9 and Bruno with a 9. Total score of 27/30. The highest score of the night!

Up next is D.L. & Cheryl. They get into rehearsals and they are dancing with Sasha & Chelsie. They work on the routine and they struggle a bit on the sexiness. However Sasha helps him a bit with it. Dancing the Tango, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that it was like a decaf coffee and needed more energy. Bruno says that he went for it, but it technically fell apart. Carrie Ann says that side by side, he was a little bouncy, but loved the focus. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 18/30.

Next up is Zendaya & Val. They get into rehearsals and they are going to dance with Maksim & Anna. They get into their routine and Val teaches her to being sexy. Anna helps her not to be afraid to be a little close. Dancing the Argentine Tango, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that says that she was as good and strong next to Anna and says that it was great. Carrie Ann says that every move she does, has a story and she loves it. Len says that it was well done and says that it was a gem of a dance. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 10, Len with a 9 and Bruno with a 10. Total score of 29/30. The first 10’s of the season!

Up last is Andy & Sharna. They get into rehearsals and they are dancing with Shasha & Emma. Andy says that he can’t believe that he has made it to week 5 and he tries to get the routine down and Andy likes to joke around. Shasha works with Andy to make him into a great dancer. Dancing the Paso Doble, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that entrance was the best, but the dance fell apart. Len says that it was more Pasadena more than Paso Doble. Bruno says that the cape got away from him. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 18/30. That’s it for the performances!
