Season 16, Episode 6 - Recap

With the elimination of D.L Hughley & Cheryl Burke last week, Kellie Pickler & Derek Hough, Victor Ortiz & Lindsay Arnold, Ingo Rademacher & Kym Johnson, Zendaya Coleman & Val Chmerkovskiy, Sean Lowe & Peta Murgatroyd, Alexandra Raisman & Mark Ballas, Andy Dick & Sharna Burgess, and Jacoby Jones & Karina Smirnoff remain in the competition as the stars dance to Stevie Wonder hits. The night kicks off with Stevie Wonder and Connor Hayes singing.

First up is Zendaya & Val. They get into rehearsals and they get to know the moves down and she is determined to get a 10 from Len. Val wants her to show that she can master it. Dancing the Cha-Cha-Cha, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and he says that was full of snap, crackle and pop. He says that is a way to start a show. Bruno says that was mesmerizing and says that she can Cha-Cha him anytime. Carrie Ann says that she blew her away and feels sorry for everyone after her. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 10, Len with a 9 and Bruno with a 10. Total score of 29/30.

Next up is Andy & Sharna. They get into rehearsals and Sharna confuses Andy with some dance language. They work on the technicality and Andy struggles. Dancing the Samba, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that it was a personality driven shamble of a Samba. It was entertaining, but it wasn’t good. Carrie Ann says that it wasn’t clear of what dance he was doing. Len says that he gives them fun and that is good. However, it wasn’t good technically, but he has done a good job. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 18/30.

Up next is Sean & Peta. They get into rehearsals. They work on the dance and they have scheduling issues. The pressure intensifies when he can’t learn the dance. Dancing the Samba, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that was the most bounce she has seen and says that the musicality was off. Len says that he needs to set his sights higher and says that the legs need to be a little more. He says that it wasn’t terrible. Bruno says that he could always double as a stripper. He needs to lighten up and listen to the music. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 7, Len with a 7 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 21/30.

Next up is Alexandra & Mark. They get into rehearsals and Mark pushes Alexandra to do her best. Alexandra is tired and she says that the things at the Boston Marathon are affecting her. Mark talks to her about it and calms her stress. Dancing the Foxtrot, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that the frame was a bit off, but loved the dance still in regards to performance. Bruno says that the technique is good, but the frame needs a little work. Carrie Ann says that she is connecting to the dance and says that she is heading for perfection. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with a 9 and Bruno with a 9. Total score of 27/30.

After a performance from Stevie Wonder, Ingo & Kym are up next. They get into rehearsals and Kym tells Ingo that they need to make improvements. They need to do a beautiful performance. Dancing the Tango, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that he held it together and produced beautiful lines. Carrie Ann says that was great and says that his lines were great. Len says that he came out and it was sharp and it suited him. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 8, Len with a 8 and Bruno with a 8. Total score of 24/30.

Next up is Kellie & Derek. They get into rehearsals and Derek tries pushing her and gets frustrated. Derek messes up with steps a bit and she laughs. They get the dance moves known and feel like they are ready. Dancing the Quick Step, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Carrie Ann says that it was perfect except for the space in her hold that caused her out of sync a bit. Len says that is the best dance he has seen of the season. It is impossible for a couple to dance so quickly without separating. Bruno says that even professionals mess up with that and says that it was superb. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 9, Len with a 10 and Bruno with a 10. Total score of 29/30.

Up next is Victor & Lindsay. They get into rehearsals and Victor says that he has never moved his hips. He has issues connecting with the love part of the dance. Dancing the Rumba, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Len says that he has powered through. Bruno says that it was like an Airline Safety Video and says that the movements were weird. Carrie Ann says that this was a little weird movement, but they have a connection with one another. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with a 6, Len with a 6 and Bruno with a 6. Total score of 18/30.

Last up for the first round is Jacoby & Karina. They get into rehearsals and they work on his frame and that his feet are pointed. He says that he is just going to dance. Dancing the Quick Step, they come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that his energy is amazing. He enjoyed it. Carrie Ann says that he surprises her and says that he brings a new element to the dance. Len says that it was like a Beatle’s Medley and he wanted to yell “Help”. He says that he is a rhythmic dancer and not confined. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with a 7 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 23/30.

Stevie Wonder comes out and sings and shows that he still has it as a performer. Anna & Tony offer a dance in the foreground.

The Team Dances are underway and Team Paso: Victor Ortiz & Lindsay Arnold, Ingo Rademacher & Kym Johnson, Zendaya Coleman & Val Chmerkovskiy, Jacoby Jones & Karina Smirnoff get into rehearsals. They get working on their moves and there are clear weak links. First up is Team Paso. They come out and dance and afterwards, Len says that it was a spirited effort and says well done. Bruno says that they have to be careful with the sync and they lost it a bit. Carrie Ann says that it was a little bit broken and it was off. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with 7, Len with an 8 and Bruno with a 7. Total score of 22/30.

Next up is Team Samba: Kellie Pickler & Derek Hough, Sean Lowe & Peta Murgatroyd, Alexandra Raisman & Mark Ballas and Andy Dick & Sharna Burgess. They come out and dance. They go to the judges and Bruno says that the girls killed it and it was great. Carrie Ann says that they were great. Len says that it was tight and in sync. They get their scores: Carrie Ann with an 8, Len with a 9 and Bruno with an 8. Total score of 25/30. This means that it is a win for them. That is it for the performances!
