Six celebrities and their professional partners compete live! The first competition has the couples doing either the cha cha cha or a waltz. This week the contestants must learn the rumba and the quickstep. It is the last week for all six teams to compete together. The first elimination based on viewer votes and the judges' scores will take place, leaving just five couples remaining in the competition.

The final round of competition finds Kristi, Jason and Cristian dancing the cha-cha in quick sensation along with their partners. Tonight will also feature a freestyle round, and the junior champion will be chosen.
Kristi Yamaguchi, Jason Taylor and Cristian de la Fuente have made it to the finals of this year's competition. Tonight, one of them will be chosen as the champion. Each couple will dance their favorite routine after it is announced in which place they have finished this season. Also, the Junior Ballroom champion is crowned.
The 13 stars are introduced and each must dance two routines in which they practiced.
One couple is eliminated before the 12 remaining couples perform a new routine.

With Ted McGinley and Jeffrey Ross gone from the show, the 11 remaining dancers perform once again in week 2 of the competition tackling the paso doble or rumba!
A third couple is released from the competition. Also, the "Macy's Stars of Dance" makes a return for its third season, where Brian Friedman choreographs a routine entitled "Neon," in which all the dancers along with Step Up's Jenna Dewan and The Pussycat Dolls' Carmit Bachar join in the fun. Jessica Simpson is the musical guest who will perform 2 songs.

The sixth week challenges the dancers to learn a hip hop style routine. Michael Flatley is substituting for Len Goodman as a guest judge.

The remaining six dancers must learn a new dance routine, and in addition of dancing in individual performances, and in a first, two team dances.

Tonight will start the first of two days of competition, including a Samba Smackdown, in which the dancers each perform to a extended version of the same song. Also, each will dance in a Freestyle routine, a fan favorite.
The three remaining dancers have just one more chance to impress the judges, dancing their favorite routine of the series which will be scored y the judges. The judges scores will be added to the viewers votes in order to determine the season seven winner. Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys make a musical appearance as well as Cloris Leachman in a special "Man on the Streets" segment and Jeff Ross hosts a roast of the three remaining contestants.

The second week of performances rolls around and in a novel twist the scores of tonight will be added to the scores of last week's premiere to form the final tally for the competitors heading into tomorrow nights results show.
The pairs can choose between two dances tonight, the salsa or the quickstep.

Week 11 is also the final week of performances for season 8, as each of the three remaining couples will dance the paso doble and a freestyle routine.
The season eight finale finds the remaining three celebrities performing a third dance before a winner is announced. Also featured during this episode is a roast of the finalists by Jeffrey Ross, a singing performance by Lady Gaga and the winner of the professional dance competition is announced.

Before starting off with the normal encore dance, viewers first got a peek at footage from last night’s confessionals (I wish this comprise the only filler in a results show!). Louie Vito took a sly jab at Aaron Carter when he lamented his scores: “At least I’m not crying,” he said to partner Chelsie Hightower. Joanna Krupa and Derek Hough had difficulty adding up their scores and poked fun at their blondeness in the process.
