Pilot - Recap

During class, the tip of Daria's pencil breaks off. Seeing that there is no one else around her, she borrows a pencil from Kevin, the football team's quarterback. Kevin misinterprets the pencil borrowing as Daria coming on to him. At first he is confused by this thought, but as the episode goes on, Kevin begins to like Daria and starts leaving messages for her on her answering machine. Seeing this, Daria, with help from Jane, decide to mess with his head.

The first move of their plan is for Daria to act like she's in love with Kevin and flirts with him, then leaves him love notes at Pizza King. As a result of this, Brittany breaks up with him. Now that he no longer is with Brittany, Kevin comes into shop class and tells Daria that he and Brittany are seeing other people and that she's "next in line". He proceeds to ask her out, but, as part of the plan, Daria turns him down saying that they're better as just friends.

But Kevin, not taking no for an answer, shows up at the Morgendorffers' with flowers. Daria answers the door, ready to turn him down again, when Quinn, Daria's sister comes up to the door. Surprised that Quinn is related to "such a brain", Kevin ends up forgetting all about Daria and asks Quinn out instead.

Later, Daria and Jane meet up at Pizza King to discuss the events of the day and decide together that having Quinn as a girlfriend is possibly the best revenge that they could inflict on Kevin.
