Calamity Jane, played by Robin Weigert
Calamity Jane is a famous figure in Wild-West lore. Based on the real life person, Jane comes to Deadwood with Wild Bill Hickok and Charlie Utter. She is extremely devoted to Bill, a 19th century groupie, but she provides practical assistance, so Bill keeps her around. After Hickok’s death, she spends a great deal of her time either drunk or helping others. She proves invaluable to Doc Cochran when a yellow fever epidemic hits. Her inability to cope with ordinary life is contrasted with her ability to keep her cool during tragedy, which leads to her nickname “Calamity” Jane. |
