Since the Degrassi franchise started in the mid-eighties, Linda Schuyler and her team of writers and directors began tackling issues no other show dared to even mention. Today, almost 25 after it's debut, Degrassi still goes there, and isn't going anywhere soon. Degrassi has covered a broad range of subjects important to today's youth, and young-adults. They realisticly cover almost every important issue you can think of, including eating disorders (without the cheesy Disney feel to it), teen pregnancy (and abortion), drug & alcohol use, pre-marital sex, school shootings, cutting, homosexuality, and rape. There is over 200 episodes combining all of the series together (100 alone with the Next Generation), and over 100 issues covered. Still, Degrassi has many issues yet to cover. The actors don't look like fake Hollywood stars, and look like actual teens. The show teaches you important morals and lessons, yet still remains to be intresting, and enjoyable to watch, without feeling like you're watching an after-school special. Let's hope The Third Generation remains true to the Degrassi spirit.
