Debra Morgan and Joseph Quinn pay a visit to Jordan Chase’s office to further question him. They tell him that they went to the residence of Alex Tilden after the call he made and now it was starting to appear as though Tilden had disappeared, because he couldn’t be reached. Debra makes it abundantly clear that all three men who have gone missing have him as the common link between all of them, saying that she is on to him. He, being the expert manipulator he is, attempts to turn this against her, accusing her of having an obsession with him.
Dexter and Lumen know exactly the whereabouts of Jordan Chase, especially since Dexter has been there personally. However, they know they can't get to him there. He suddenly has invested in furthering his security, and so it is much more difficult for them to get him while he is alone and at any sort of risk. Lumen volunteers to utilize her services as bait for him, but Dexter vehemently refuses, telling her that it is simply much too precarious. Lumen asks Dexter if his sister Deb has ever suspected anything about who he is, but he replies that she never has. He looks over, noticing that there is something strange about the baby monitor. He forcefully (but not so much that it hurts her) embraces Lumen in order to warn her that the baby monitor is picking up a signal from a camera in the room and that they are being surveilled. After he does this, they both go outside, knowing that someone is watching from close by.
Stan Liddy and Quinn have a conversation in the station parking lot. Liddy asks for his help on a bust that he says will be big enough to “make everyone notice”, but Quinn refuses to help him any further, as he had made clear before, too. Liddy says that he will be calling anyway and that Quinn had better come running when the call comes.
Dexter, using his detective skills, manages to find the camera that was being picked up by the baby monitor. Later, Dexter checks the camera and finds that the sticker on it says that it belongs to Miami Metro, but when Lumen asks if he really thinks they’re behind this, he says he doesn’t think so. He had the idea initially that the cameras had to have been the work of Jordan Chase, but now he knows that that was not true. Dexter also understands that no one has seen the tapes because there hasn't been any arrests yet.
Dexter goes to work as per usual with a plan in mind to find out who rented the camera from the station. He sits in on a department meeting which features Deb discussing how everything keeps linking back to Jordan Chase. Masuka enters and says that the footprint outside Tilden's house had a twin in front of the house next door, and upon going into the place, he observed that the dining room had the distinct scent of bleach and also that it was spotless. Deb tells LaGuerta about her vigilante theory. She explains that there are thirteen DVDs but there are only twelve victims. As soon as the meeting is over, Dexter discovers the false revelation that Quinn was the one who rented camera and recording equipment. He quickly puts it together that something is not right because he finds out that he took it out for a case from 1982, which would have made Quinn younger than ten years old. He and Lumen then snoop around at Quinn's apartment where they discover the photos of them dumping Cole into the marina.
Meanwhile, Quinn and Deb visit the office of Dan the Dentist to speak with his wife. They bring her up to date, telling her that he has been linked to the series of rapes and murders. Then they run by her the list of names. She recognizes the name Jordan Chase and tells them that he is not really Jordan Chase, that his real name is actually Eugene Greer.
Debra reveals to Dexter that Quinn lied to her about her brother, proceeding to then tell him all about how Quinn had an idea that Dexter was in some way connected to his wife Rita's death. He says that that doesn’t make any sense, and she says she knows. Then she moves the topic to the vigilante. "He’s risking his life, he’s putting everything on the line to make what happened to her right," she says. She tells him she finds it kind of romantic.
Dexter and Lumen go shopping, and they decide on a small pocket knife for her protection. Dexter tells her that he is who Quinn wants, not her. He suggests that she leave, at least until he deals with the situation, but she will have none of it.
At the station, Deb, Quinn and Batista are discussing Jordan Chase, and come to the realization that these men are seasoned veterans at this, that they have been at this for sometime, perhaps years. Batista receives a call and suddenly has to leave the room. Quinn takes the chance to tell Debra that he is sorry for having this theory that was not only stupid but also irresponsible. He tells her that he loves her. "You made me take a hard look at myself, and it's made me a better person I think," he says. Batista comes back and says that Chase denied their request for an interview and that he has just booked a tour. He is now wanted, because it appears as though he is planning on taking off post-haste.
Dexter sits outside of his house and notices that only one truck remains on his street. He notes Quinn arriving, so he jumps out of his car and approaches the van. Liddy sneaks up behind him and stuns him with a taser weapon as he opens the door, throwing him in the back before taking off. Lumen is alone when she receives a call from Emily Birch who says she herself got a call from Jordan Chase and that now she needs her help. Lumen tells her she will be right over, and the next thing we see is Chase sitting right in Emily's living room.
Dexter wakes up and become cognizant of where he is. Liddy introduces himself to Dexter. He parks the van and calls Quinn, demanding that he come to meet him where he is. Liddy gets into the back of the truck and shows Dexter a few seconds of the video he had recorded, and tells him that that was only a little snippet of what he has. He then demands that Dexter give a full confession, and assures that Lumen will be let free if he does. He starts to film Dexter, but Dexter uses all of his force to kick Stan Liddy to the ground. Dexter wrestles on top of him and is able to stab him and kill him, which is definitely not part of the Code of Harry, but this was a matter of life or death. Quinn arrives, but the van is locked and he can't see anything. Before he walks away, a drop of Liddy's blood leaks out and falls onto his shoe. As soon as he is gone, Dexter reaches for his phone and the laptop with the footage of him and Lumen and departs from the van. He tosses the laptop into the bay and heads to Lumen.
LaGuerta tells Debra that her court order for Jordan Chase was denied because she hadn't come to her about it first. Debra flies off the handle before LaGuerta can give her the court order that she obtained from a different judge. She says he owed her a favor anyway. This allows her to keep Chase from absconding from the city, if she can get to him first. Debra says, “Great, now I look like the asshole.”
Lumen arrives at Emily's house, but Emily becomes panicked when she sees that Lumen is alone. She tells her that she needs Dexter there too. Suddenly, to Lumen’s horror, Chase makes his presence known. Chase asks Lumen what Dexter is doing that is so important that he can’t come to her rescue. Lumen says that she doesn’t know. Emily attempts to interject, but Chase screams at her telling her to shut up, and then tells her that this is all her fault. Lumen tries to run but she is knocked down and rendered unconscious by Chase. He says he can’t leave any witnesses, so he stabs and kills Emily as Lumen tries to move quickly to get away.
Deb gets to the airport with her court order that prevents Chase from leaving Miami. He was scheduled to have left an hour before, but when Debra shows up, he isn’t even there.
Dexter returns to his apartment to find that Lumen isn’t there. He puts it together fairly quickly that Lumen is at Emily’s place. When he arrives at her house, he discovers that he is too late. Emily has been killed, with a liberal rank of blood all over the floor from the fight. He can see that the blood belongs not just to Emily, and that Lumen was able to put up a fight and get away.
The last thing he thinks to himself is, 'Is this the only kind of love I'll ever find; the kind that ends in blood?' The chase is on.
