A Horse of a Different Color - Recap

Everyone looks on while Brother Sam baptizes one of his converts. Dexter considers how Brother Sam believes in God and is fulfilled.

Sam comes up and talks to Dexter. They talk about converting him. Sam enlightens him about believing in something greater than himself. Dexter gets called into work.

When Dexter shows up to the scene, he sees a few horses with mannequins. The mannequins have body parts sewed on to them. They are trying to figure it out and they come to the conclusion that it shows that it is the end of the world. He is showing them a scene from the book of Revelations.

Dexter and Deb discuss the body as he puts it together. He was a missing jogger. The wounds are indicative of the same murderer from the last episode. They find a little piece of paper that says "1242". His intestines are opened and they also find a piece of paper that says "1237".

Jamie calls Dexter to tell him he's not feeling good. They cancel the playdate.

Luguerta is told to address the Dooms Day killer issue. She tells Deb to lead the press conference. She is told to take the therapy mandatory to deal with the shooting.

Masuka asks his assistant/girlfriend to go on a date and she wants to see more serial killer finds. Dexter is trying to figure out how to crack the killer's code. Masuka figures out that the weapon is possibly an ancient artifact. Mike, Deb's replacement, explains to the crew what the messages are that the killer is trying to send. He seems to be counting up to something, which may be the end of the world.

Travis and Professor are at lunch discussing their plans. He sees a waitress that may like him and he wants to at least consider asking her out. Dexter reads a lot of biblical information as Deb tries to find a new style for work. Dexter goes to comfort Harrison, because he's not feeling well.

Dexter goes to get his car and he is handed a bible. He tells Sam about the case that he's dealing with. They talk about faith and religious crutches. He then goes to look at the body again. It doesn't make sense to him.

Masuka finds out that the intern stole the hand from the Ice Truck Killer. They're over now. Deb does her press conference and she ends up cursing and saying all she cares about is catching the murderer.

Dexter gets called to the hospital, Harrison's appendix is ruptured. He has to go into emergency surgery.

Quinn and Batista are on the job, but they find an old joint and they light up, surprisingly. They are high and get a call from dispatch and they got the address they need. They need to work high.

Dexter and Deb are sitting in the waiting room and he is reading all of the statistics. Brother Sam shows up and Deb is shocked they're friends now. He asks how Dexter is holding up, he's so worried about him. He tells him sometimes you just have to surrender. Sam tells him about how different he used to be. He used to believe in something else: His father. It didn't work out, because he watched his father shoot someone in the face.

He also tells him about his attempt to kill someone in the jail chapel. He saw sunlight and he realized he did not want to do it anymore. He believes it was God. Dexter goes to get coffee and it didn't work, but he ends up praying. As soon as he does that, he gets his coffee.

Travis is getting ready to leave for his date, but the professor is guilt tripping him. Travis says it is just dinner and he will be back home by ten. He goes on his date and they get to know one another a bit better. He ends up sleeping with her at the end of the night and of course the professor is there watching in the shadows.

Everyone is still waiting in the waiting room and Dexter is terribly nervous. The doctor comes out and says that Harrison made it through the surgery with flying colors. Dexter thanks Sam for staying even if he didn't have to.

Deb goes to see the boss and he tells her that he was made to be proud of her and that her dad would've been proud, too.

Batista and Quinn tell them that they have a lead. This lead is obsessed with the professor. He disappeared after he got fired a few years ago after stealing a religious artifact. It apparently belonged to John the Revelator. Travis wakes up to his female friend tied up and realizes she's going to die.

Dexter sits with Harrison and gets a call from Deb. They found an alpha and omega, so there is a new crime scene. There is blood and fish, but there has to be a body. He follows a trail and they go into a greenhouse where a body is rigged to drop and puncture her jugular. There is also a swarm of locusts. Dexter sees Travis watching and smiling.
